Media My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic

Was anyone else even slightly put off by the fact that Spitfire has a new VA? It was kinda odd listening to her talk.

I knew I wasn't just hearing things. : ) But yeah, for a drill seargent, she had a really high pitched voice and got kinda on my nerves after a while.

Also how does an immortal god of the sun like Celestia not know what a parasprite is?

Late night philosophy with PMJ.

Maybe Parasprites aren't native to Canterlot? Too high of elevation? The Spitfire thing kind of surprises me.

Well see this is the thing

when the parasprite landed on Celestia's wing, she had absolutely no clue what it was.

When Celestia said that there was an infestation in Fillydelphia, she looked like she knew what what Twilight and her friends have done. She said that the town was suffering from an infestation, completely calm like "now I have to go clean up the mess you made" instead of "HOLY CRAP TWILIGHT I GOTTA GO, FILLYDELPHIA IS UNDER ATTACK BY SOMETHING"

given that Pinkie Pie of all ponies knew what parasprites were I find it hard to believe Celestia wouldn't either

also that episode could have been completely prevented if Pinkie had just explained why the parasprites were so dangerous in the first place: normal pinkie or subtle trolling?

AND ANOTHER THING

Sapphire Shores has no cutie mark (screw you, blindbag toy get out of my theory); if you watch at 00:40 her entire flank is clearly visible and there is nothing there. You For comparison, Rarity's cutie mark is in the same location.

So why are the CMC so worried about getting their cutie marks if Sapphire Shores can get rich and famous without one? What does that mean for Sapphire Shores, who has great singing and acting skill despite it not being her special talent???

The things I think about at 2 am...

I doubt that Pinkie would mess with her friends like that. She could have figured that her friends knew what was going on, but they were just choosing to ignore her. She is also Pinkie, so simply trying to communicate probably didn't come immediately to her mind in the heat of the moment.

As for the Celestia thing, my best guess would be that she knew Twilight and her friends were having problems with Parasprites. She realized the town won't be able to properly prepare for her arrival, so she helped them out in a backhanded sort of way. This would kind of go along with her "I'm going to be confusing and sneaky" character. Make everyone stress out, just so she could do some acting, and reschedule.

Sapphire Shores is a robot. Also, while we are looking way too far into things, is there a way we could get an age timeline of the mane 6? They all get their Cutie Marks at the same time. With this being said, AJ is the last to get her Cutie Mark in her class, and Rainbow Dash is the first. So far, all that I have been able to gather is that Rainbow Dash is younger than Applejack, and Fluttershy is older than Pinkie. Is there any info that I am missing?

Okay seriously what is this logic

In A Dog and Pony Show, when Spike tells Twilight that the dogs probably took Rarity down the path with the most gems, how does that make any sense at all? The diamond dogs kidnapped Rarity for slave labor, so wouldn't it make more sense for them to follow the path with no gems in it? Since, y'know, the dogs would have made her dig them all up? Or follow the path with the most holes?

It's a good thing that they guessed right or they probably never would have met and been lost in the underground forever.

Or at least for a few episodes.

I dunno, maybe the diamond dogs are just dumb. Rarity wasn't immediately aware of what it is the dogs wanted from her, so maybe they took her somewhere before telling her to find the gems.

But that still doesn't explain why Spike thought following the path with the most gems would get them anywhere, seeing as how no one but Rarity could find them anyway!

Also watching Rarity make chumps of the diamond dogs is a great way to reaffirm her as best pony (although Twilight Sparkle is pretty much sharing the pedestal with her at this point).

Her dialogue does kind of support that theory since she kept asking them to get serious, but Twilight and Fluttershy were with Pinkie when she first saw the parasprites. Neither Twilight nor Fluttershy had any idea what they were. Pinkie knew exactly how dangerous they were, so much so that she spent the rest of the episodes gathering instruments; if she'd taken the time to explain herself--especially after it became obvious they were ignoring her--she could have saved them a lot of trouble.

This still doesn't explain why she had no idea what the parasprites were. My only guess is that she knew what they were, but not what they looked like, but that doesn't make sense given how dangerous they are and the fact that she looked sly when she talked about Fillydelphia's "infestation." She wouldn't have acted like that unless she knew that Twilight had sent the parasprites there.

Seems legit.

AJ being last in her class to get her cutie mark doesn't mean much of anything, but them all getting their marks at roughly the same time means that Fluttershy isn't just older than Pinkie, she's older than all of them.

Right, so watching Cutie Mark Chronicles again:

Why was Fluttershy such a weak flier as a filly? She's a Cloudsdale native, so flying seems like it would be kinda mandatory to get around. I get that they can walk on clouds, but they'd still need to fly, right? So why did Fluttershy still suck at it despite being a lot older than the ponies who were making fun of her?

Well you know what? She doesn't suck at it. When the sonic rainboom goes off and scares the animals, she soothes them all and then flies down to the ground like a boss, even doing a cool-looking twirly move before she lands. Fluttershy being a weak flier is a lie.

But she does have trouble with it in certain situations, which means that something in her brain is telling her - making her not want to fly. Traumatic experience is my bet. What happened? I bet she watched her parents die or something and the horror of that makes her afraid. Poor Fluttershy :[

also Rarity's cutie mark story is complete hooey and Spike is ambidextrous

My guess is that as Fluttershy got bullied extensively as a kid (which we sorta know), she can only reach her full potential when (a) No ponies are watching and/or (b) She's mad and doesn't care about (a).

In fact, I'd even suggest that the bullying is indirectly responsible for her affinity with animals. She learned through bullying to avoid social contact with other ponies, and so channelled the natural human/pony urge for company into seeking friendship and love from animals instead. It's basically the MLP equivalent of an old and lonely cat lady.

Although having said that, Fluttershy's character has (arguably) developed the least throughout the entire series and she still has all of the problems she started out with. Although she improves within her own specific episodes, she'll revert to her previous state an episode or two later. So maybe PMJ is right and something more traumatic than bullying has yet to be uncovered. She has bipolar moments that rival Pinky, and her bursts of anger indicate that something big and menacing lies under the quiet and shy facade.

Scootaloo is also an orphan whose parents were killed in a tragic accident in Cloudsdale. This is why she reveres Rainbow Dash and wishes her to act as a mentor, why she is handicapped and can hardly fly (she was crippled in the accident), and why she does not live in Cloudsdale despite technically being able to live there (bad memories).

maybe like

*smokes joint*

maybe Sapphire Shores does have a cutie mark, but it really is just that: nothing

it embodies the true emptiness of celebrity fame, the relentless vacuum of stardom that sucks those without grounded spirits into its frozen and eternal domain

or maybe robot

okay I'd like to post my Rarity theory again cause it looks like pmj deleted it (I don't blame him really I will try to use some caps in this one)
Rarity is definitely at least twenty, here are my reasons:
Rarity has a career as a fashion designer, this must have required going through college
She also has her own house, which is like two stories high and pretty nice.
Pinkie lives with the Cakes, Rainbow's house is made out of clouds, AJ lives with the fam on the farm, and Twilight lives in the library for free.
Fluttershy is probably the second oldest, she has her own house and everything, and also just seems like a skinny 25 year old artist who is a member of a co-op, has an anxiety disorder and loves mumford and sons. your average quirky indie wallflower archetype.
Here are my guesses for the mane 6's ages again:
rarity is around 29
fluttershy is around 25
twilight is 16
applejack is 18
dash is 14 or 15
pinkie could be anywhere between 14 and 17

Unrelated:
I just wanna say that Snips is best pony

Fluttershy's canonically one year older than Pinkie. they're probably all about the same age. I've always had it like

Fluttershy (19)
Pinkie Pie, Rarity, Applejack (18)
Rainbow Dash (17)
Twilight Sparkle (16 or 17)
