Lovie Smith was fired for, the reason Rainbow Dash pointed out. Lovie Smith's team ( Chicago Bears ) was good, but they were incapable of getting over that hump, either if it was getting in the playoffs or winning playoff games. The did appear in Super Bowl XLI, but he lost. He did not win a Super Bowl with the Chicago Bears and struggled at the end of seasons to reach and progress through the playoffs. Lovie Smith was a good coach overall, but he will end up somewhere soon ( if he isn't already somewhere ) and he will be a Coordinator. Lovie Smith had a good coaching career in Chicago and he will remain in the league on another team at another coaching postion.
I will also say, Alex Smith will not go to any team where he is a backup. Alex Smith got replaced by Colin Kaepernick due to injury, and I believe Alex Smith will not be going to any team that can't gurrantee him a really good chance at the starting job. Here's a list of teams that are possible teams Alex Smith may go and why I think he will or will not go there.
Buffalo Bills - Buffalo is one of the multiple destinations Alex Smith may land. I don't think Buffalo will be his destination based on a few interviews I have watched with the Bills head coach, he seems very interested in Quarterbacks in the draft. I don't think the new head coach has given up on Ryan Fitzpatrick yet, but during the weeks of Training Camp and Pre-Season Fitzpatrick will have to go head to head with a drafted Quarterback of the Bills. I'm not too sure if the Bills will take a 1st round Quarterback or not, but if they do it will most likely end up being the 2nd or 3rd top rated quarterback which will be a quality quarterback, which will become competition for Fitzpatrick. On a side note, the Bills do share a strong interest in the tall NC State quarterback Mike Glennon.
Kansas City Chiefs - I'm a Kansas City Chiefs fan and I personally do not want the Chiefs to even consider Alex Smith as their 2013 quarterback, the chiefs have recently ( this year ) messed with retreads such as Brady Quinn and Matt Cassel. Alex Smith isn't a playmaker, he's basically a game manager who looked good because he was in the center of a very well rounded 49ers team. Alex Smith will not change a thing in Kansas City except get KC mediocre seasons at best. Kansas City is looking into the #1 Rated Quarterback in the draft Geno Smith and Eagles Quarterback Nick Foles, who obviously doesn't belong in the Eagles system anymore, with Chip Kelly and his 2 quick and elusive quarterbacks in Vick and Dixon. The Kansas City Chiefs have yet to show any intreest in Alex Smith and I doubt and hope they wont ever.
Arizona Cardinals - This is where I personally think if Alex Smith isn't with the 49ers or a free agent he will be in an Arizona Cardinals uniform next year. Arizona is a destination where Alex Smith will immediately take over, besides even if there is another quarterback that was drafted, the Cardinals are most likely going to lean towards Alex Smith because of how much they're going to have to pay him. Arizona, if they can manage to get Alex Smith on the roster before the draft they will mostly cover another need with their 1st round pick but if they haven't manage to get Smith they will draft some along the lines of Matt Barkley. I honestly think the 1st step for the Cardinals is to release Kevin Kolb who's contract takes a lot of cap space in the Cardinals organization.
These were my 3 teams I think show the most interest in Alex Smith at the Quarterback postion. The Jacksonville Jaguars may have interest that I'm unknown of, but if they do I doubt Alex Smith will want to go to an organization that gives him a very limited number of offensive weapons and on the defensive side of the ball, they're struggling on keeping guys healthy and able to keep a good defense afloat. Without a dominate defense, having a very limited number of offensive weapons will take a huge tole of the Jaguars and the Smith sweepstakes.
Just recently today, Jim Harbaugh said at the combine, the 49ers chance of releasing Alex Smith is unlikely, which this statement is bogus. You cannot tell me or other NFL GM's that you're going to keep a quarterback that is getting paid more then your starter next year. The only way they'll keep Alex Smith is if they reconstruct his contract, and lower the amount you're paying him greatly, then just maybe you'll be able to convince me Alex Smith will an 49er next regular season.
These are my thoughts on what I have seen you guys in this thread recently discussing, I hope my input is appreciate and if you guys like these long well thought out posts, just let me know because if you give me a topic I'll be more than happy to do more of these long posts, that really covers a topic quite nicely I think. If you have questions about anything feel free to ask or even PM or VM me. Thanks for reading.
