Pokemon Parents and Pokemon?

My parents think Pokemon is from the devil, and that only sheltered, bothered people play games with expensive cardboard.
I'm glad I don't have to agree.
And yes,I am being 100% serious about my parents opinion of Pokemon. I have to hide all of my Pokemon related purchases.
Once they even threw out a binder of cards worth over 500 dollars, it was filled with base set cards. They do something like that whenever I need to be "punished" for my behavior. Very tough to like Pokemon in my house.

Me and my whole family are Christian, and none of us see a problem with Pokemon.

Pokemon was Pope-approved, these religious folks need to get over it.

The Bible says you can kill your Mom if she wears a garment made of two or more threads. Something to think about

DON'T KILL YOUR MOM

Whered the bible say that?!

I was born while my brother was a huge Pokemon fanatic. My mom was a christian, but I was raised in the views of my atheist dad. I saw cards just days after birth. My parents saw them as a great way to sharpen math and reading skills. I could recognize the word Scyther before I knew how to spell "book". I'm probably not much of an authority on this matter because of that, but I'll try to give my best advice.

First off in this thread you don't say why your parents hate it. If you want people to help you with this then they need to understand the problem at least a bit better. If you don't know why they hate it then you should just talk to them about what they dislike about it. If they tell you why they dislike it then you can ask them for a bit of time to get your argument together. Once you have a good argument set up confront them with it.

P.S. I'll try to help some more if you'll let us know why they hate it.

Leviticus 19:19. If yours doesn't say it, then lucky you. Praise be to Arceus.

Leviticus 19:19 says to not wear something with both wool and linen in it.

There are 100s of versions of the bible, all with different language. Mine said to kill someone who did it. Bible Xtreme, maybe. You can also sell your daughter.

When it came to religion and Pokemon, the issue was more noticeable back when Pokemon first came to the states. A lot of you weren't even born or were just babies, so you wouldn't remember it. If you're still going through it, hang in there kiddo.

Yeah, I remember this. Thankfully, not from first hand experience, but through friends and the media.

If you want to get parents to understand and accept your enjoyment of Pokémon, you just need to state your arguments/beliefs logically (tell them with words), and also to prove to them that the hobby doesn't completely consume you (show them with actions). Most parents are a lot more accepting about things if they see their children behaving responsibly.

I can't argue with that. That's probably the BEST thing said in this thread.

Maybe to show that it doesn't "consume" you, you could try something NEW, even though you already have a few sports. Maybe hockey or ice-skating? (I geuss that their the same thing, just in a different form?) =)

And just show that you spend like almost no time on it or they'll think that you are wasting your time. Just gradually "start" playing and maybe by the end of the year they will let you, but If you decide to go to states like a week after you convince them they will not like it very much.

Well, I'm not gonna be doing anymore organized stuff, since my moms in law school.
though I am starting to do basketball

Please keep on topic, before this turns to Bible Discussion hosted by Safariblade.

Sorry Safari, ask Geraldine Jones. She can tell you, why I said that.

I just want to clarify that i did not literally mean from the "Devil," just that they extremely dislike it, for whatever reason.
i also realize that i said i was being 100% serious. This was an exaggeration, and i apologize. sorry.

Some people, even some who appear to be knowledgeable, will use any and every reason they can cling to explain why you should hate something. If you look through their reasoning, a lot are really foolish. Pokemon is a harmless game. If anything, Pokemon has taught me good values that I still live by today. Teamwork, to believe in yourself, that one person can change the world, to never give up, and so on. If your parents can't give you a good reason to stop playing Pokemon, that's them i guess. It doesn't have to be you.

I will say parents can come up with better reasons to tell you to stop playing, that do make sense. Any obsessive or addictive behavior towards pretty much anything is not good. If you are far too into Pokemon, and not as into your schoolwork or other important things, maybe you need to take a break and work things out. Also, if Pokemon is having a negative effect on you financially. This is where I can see some parents stepping in.

I've been summoned.
Wait.
Who is Geralide Jones?

Kind of On Topic: Pokemon was never meant to intertwine with any religion. It should never interfere with someone's beliefs, but I'm sure other religious members here , especially Christians will agree that hobbies (like Pokemon) can easily be used as a tool to share faith. But that's not the point of Pokemon, obviously.

TL;DR: Pokemon doesn't go against any beliefs. People who think that probably don't know much about Pokemon. Its a game.

On Topic: Hopefully most parent realize that the game is harmless.

That's perfect! Like Jirachi said, now you just have to gradually start playing Pokemon more! (But no to much eh? :p) Just make sure that you do your best in basketball, okay? Good luck! :D

Tell them that you have a chance to win scholarship money, and tell them that going to tournaments allows you to travel to places you've never been. Also, make sure you do all your chores, parents really like that.

The one thing that we kids hate... :p Oh! If you have some friends at school or something that like to play Pokemon, ask you parents if you can invite them over to play for awhile or something! That way they'll see that Pokemon makes you more social! =D
