yeah i agree. Pokemon is different from the ones in the games. Pokemon in the anime can use more than just four attacks, but in the game, pokemon can only remeber up to 4.
I think that there are "levels" in the anime. Brock sometimes say things about leveling up pokemon for it to learn an attack it cant use properly or sumtin ( like from the Natu episode: some kid's Natu cant use Future Sight well so Ash decided to battle it for Natu to level up.
And another earlier episode where they met up with this girl who has a Paras and wanted it to become Parasect. Ash decided to battle it and to lose purposely to make Paras level up and eventually evolve )
But i really think these "levels" are intended not to affect evolution of Pokemon. Like Ash's Charmeleon...it evolved into Charizard too early and besides, Charmeleon just evolved.

it was because that charmander (before evolving) wasn't ash's. traded pokemon grow faster. I dunno if it's about levels or EV's but they used it like lvs.

what I meant is that when they battle a gym leader who (in the games) has level 12 pokemon pikachu sometimes ends up losing

Actually, those are mostly like, atleast 30 in anime.

But still if he's around level 70 like other people said this would be no problem.
For Example... If I take my Level 70 Infernape and battle a Level 30 oooh let's say Spiritomb Infernape will probably win for 4 reasons
1 higher power 2 faster 3 higher HP and 4 higher defense

I think they have a level but they don't mention it because Pokemon fans want to see more battle during the show and I also think that is why Ash's Pokemon are not as strong or as good as they used to be. For those who have never ever seen the show now is the time because there is a 33 hour Pokemon master marathon and this is the best time to watch so you can see all of Ash's old and also new Pokemon.

Mmm...I didn't watch all the episodes...=D

So that means the new gym leader's (Falkner and Roxanne) must have had high-level Pokemon...

If you think about how much things Pikachu has gone through:
4 Regions
Shocking Team Rocket
32 Gym Leaders

That’s a lot of XP. Therefore its 100, I mean it has to be.
If you watch the PokeSchool episode Pikachu was already Level 25 at the Second Gym Leader in the Kanto Region.

Ash's pikachu is really weird! maybe at the end os a season it gets lvl100 but drops to lvl20 at the beginning of another season

I say level 80 because in gold and silver when you go to fight ash pikachu is level 80.

But with all those wins after that, Pikachu's level had to go up. I'm thinking it's at level 100 but half the time, Ash makes stupid mistakes that cause Pikachu to lose.
