Oh, Camo! o_O This is going to be very interesting... All that we need now is for [mod]Brave Vesperia[/mod] to enter Text-Based and we'll have an awesome amount of Mods here in this Contest to go! :D

remaining cards into your deck afterward.

It is able to understand and bond with any kind of Pokémon. Born on the sea

Well, you mean Text or Image Based?
Text. What is the difference, exactly?
And I just figured out by myself how.

RE: PokéBeach Create-A-Card: July 2014 - Legendary

In image, you do the entire card, and in text you just use the text the card would have.

The difference is exactly what it sounds like. As I explained to you in Reggie's thread, Text Based entries use only words, while Image Based entries use card blanks and photo-editing software to make the card. They're also judged differently. Check last month's judging post for examples of the two different entries.

RE: PokéBeach Create-A-Card: July 2014 - Legendary

Oh, ok, then I guess I'll want to do Image, then. Does a Diancie card count?

RE: PokéBeach Create-A-Card: July 2014 - Legendary

Diancie is a legendary Pokémon so it should be fine. :)

Mew might no longer be my absolute favourite Pokémon, but it's still probably my 'signature' Pokémon. I still have a pretty big Mew collection, which I really should catalogue one day. So when faced with this otherwise rather boring theme Mew seemed like the obvious choice.

As always I'm inventing bizarre new effects. It's probably some sort of subconscious retaliation against the incredibly boring cards they've been printing these last few years. I still had an attach-Pokémon-as-Energy effect planned for the 'New Rule' contest a while back, and it seemed like an obvious fit. I would've loved to have seen a card like this being playable, it seems the strategy options are near endless.
As an aside, I decided not to italicise the text between brackets because Mew ex didn't either, some other cards with the same text do seem to italicise it, however.

The attack is there so one can return a Benched Pokémon to one's hand to then use it as an Energy for Mew next turn. To keep it from being abusable for other purposes I decided to add the damage transfer effect. It would still be quite powerful when used in the same format as that one Uxie back in the day. I guess it can also be used as a suicide option if need be.

To keep the text readable I had to move the separating bar quite low, if this were an actual card the Power font would probably be a quite a bit smaller, but that would make it illegible at this resolution.

The art is based on the original Mew sprite for Pokémon Red and Blue. It's very different from my usual Mew style, but I felt that would've been too out of place on a Pokémon card. I also made a very detailed Wallpaper for y'all, enjoy. All the points to whoever can figure out what the text on the wall is and where it came from.

This is my favorite card from July's event so far! The concept of being able to heal damage, and then return Mew to your hand, opens up lots of good combinations. You could use a Pokemon that has a strong ability when it's Active, and when it starts taking damage, heal it off and retreat back to that Pokemon with a simple 1 Energy attack! Love it!

... Stupid ambiguous wording. While that would be a pretty sweet effect (though perhaps not for a Mew), the intended effect is that the Benched Pokémon is returned to your hand, which add synergy with the Power. I'm not sure why I didn't realise the wording was ambiguous, though. There go my chances for a perfect wording score :(

Oh. Oh, I see.

It's still pretty cool, though.

RE: PokéBeach Create-A-Card: July 2014 - Legendary

Entering for text based! We are allowed to do any mechanic from any era, right?

RE: PokéBeach Create-A-Card: July 2014 - Legendary

I have finished my entry for the image-based competition.
S0rtx71.png

Blanks are credit to Aschefield. Blanks and era are XY/BW. Wording for the ability is based off Spiritomb LT, and the attack is based off Lugia-EX PLS.

I did the artwork by starting with a pencil sketch which was then scanned and colored in using a thick heavy brush. Kudos if you can guess the character in the bottom left.

As my first image based fake, this was a lot of work, but I'm fairly satisfied with what came of it. I might have liked the artwork to be neater, or more well-shaded, but that's not my forte.

RE: PokéBeach Create-A-Card: July 2014 - Legendary

Been working on this for the past couple of days, I think I'm ready to submit it.
Honestly I'm on a break between university semesters with nothing to do and having this done but not submitting it is driving me insane so here
m_mewtwo_y_ex_by_jedi201-d7pavf4.png

Reeeeally hoping you guys pick up on the distinction between a "Defending Pokemon" and an "Attacking Pokemon" on this card.
For those unfamiliar with my new Mega Pokemon blanks, here are my rules:
- The rule of ending your turn upon Mega Evolution is replaced with a rule where you can only Mega Evolve your Benched Pokemon-EX, and only with both halves of the Mega Pokemon (like the LEGEND cards, but with bench-based evolution)
- Each half must have "M-1/2" or "M-2/2" to signify which half is which
- The Mega Pokemon needs at least one "Mega ______ " Ability to reference Mega Evolution and the bond between Pokemon and Trainers
- Show the Mega Stone of the Mega Evolved Pokemon clearly on the card
- Use the full title of the Mega Pokemon (eg. "M Charizard X EX" as opposed to "M Charizard EX"
- Works in the current format alongside current Pokemon-EX and M Pokemon-EX

Hope everyone likes it! ^_^

RE: PokéBeach Create-A-Card: July 2014 - Legendary

Would creating a animated gif card be legal? I don't care about believability points.

RE: PokéBeach Create-A-Card: July 2014 - Legendary

Eh, there's nothing illegal about it but I use my tablet for most judging and it doesn't handle gifs well. It's been done before, too, and it doesn't leave the finished card very HQ.

I'd really prefer if you didn't.

Honestly, that would be really cool! It would make any Holofoil-like patterns feel more realistic, and I approve!

RE: PokéBeach Create-A-Card: July 2014 - Legendary

I finally finished my artwork for this month's contest today and sent it off to PMJ. You can check out my art thread if you want a sneak peak, or wait until PMJ finishes the card and posts it up. I'm excited to see how the card will end up, too! :)
