RE: PokéBeach VGC Domination - Professional Organized Team

They might... I think they'd be interesting to work with given different EV's than normal, a Defensive Latias would seem to work pretty nicely with base 130 SpD. I think without a Choice Scarf though, they'd lack the speed that they'd need for things like Gengar.

RE: PokéBeach VGC Domination - Professional Organized Team

Gnengar would be too hard to use. It dies to any Uber pretty much. The Lati@s could do well in that they only take 1/2 normal damage from Water Spout and have immunity to EQ as well. Thunder only hits them for half damage which takes care of quite a few common moves. 350 Speed still is pretty solid considering they do have good power yet, especially Latios. It could be used to finish off a Groudon or Kyogre.

RE: PokéBeach VGC Domination - Professional Organized Team

Yeah the Lati@s would be nice. I have a perfect IV'ed Latios I think, and might be using him this time around.

RE: PokéBeach VGC Domination - Professional Organized Team

Gengar does have a weak Defense, but it's got a pretty amazing Special Attack, as well as Speed. It would be the perfect canidate for taking out things like Latias or Latios, where its STAAB attack gets a super effective hit.

RE: PokéBeach VGC Domination - Professional Organized Team

It speed ties to Lati@s so it isn't reliable since you don't want to risk getting ko'd at this level from the misfortune of being slower. Azelf is faster than Lati@s, but it lacks an Ice Move and would have to do Shadow Ball instead, though it would still deal quite a bit of damage. You also could just use scarf exploding Azelf.

RE: PokéBeach VGC Domination - Professional Organized Team

Hey guys I got on the team and well I came here to learn more on how to play competitevily and such, I've always been better at battle strategy rather than making teams or doing IVs(EV's/natures I can do well with) so I was wondering if anyone had an idea for a team based around Scizor? I was thinking of using him either as my opener or my just pure sweeper(swords dance Scizor)

RE: PokéBeach VGC Domination - Professional Organized Team

The format for the Video Game Championship is doubles. With that being said, it becomes difficult to impossible for certain Pokemon to be used like they are in singles. Scizor is great in singles, but just doesn't really perform up to par in doubles. You need to learn how to use Pokemon in doubles since it is way different than singles. Movesets for Pokemon will change, ev spreads may change as well. Protect is not commonly ussed in singles, but in doubles, it can really be beneficial if you wanted to use Surf or Earthquake. You must take advantage of certain moves that only work in doubles such as Helping Hand. Vaporeon and Kyogre is a great combination because Helping Hand will increase the damage Kyogre does with Surf while also healing Vaporeon due to Water Absorb. There are few weaknesses that a Kyogre and Vaporeon combo has. If the Kyogre is holding Choice Scarf, it is very difficult to counter because it outpaces everything pretty much and hits for a load. Helping Hand has a positive priority so it will be used before Kyogre attacks.

ah okay, I'' try to think of something tonight/weekend and I'll LYK so you guys can help w/ my team. Also does anyone here have any advice on getting high IV's? I can do EV's but I'M TERRIBLE at breeding for IV's(natures are doable but only cuz that's sorta common sense and not like hidden)

RE: PokéBeach VGC Domination - Professional Organized Team

The best advice I can give you is have parents with good IVs. Half of your IVs are inherited through breeding. I believe there is a guide in the casual play area for IV breeding for more information.

RE: PokéBeach VGC Domination - Professional Organized Team

Protect could also be a huge benefit if younuse Explosion. Explosion (IMO) is a good siixide attack, because t hits your opponents for massive damage. After Exploding, you could use something like Perish Song, that would kill your opponents Pokémon while you sit and stall with Protect.

RE: PokéBeach VGC Domination - Professional Organized Team

You would need to have the Perish Song user to be fast though so it can get the attack off since power can be high considering what Pokemon are available. IT could work. Turn 1 Explode Protect, they both die. You switch in something that is a wall. Then turn 2 Perish Song. Giratina and Dialga can make excellent walls. Shedinja might not be bad either for this kind of strategy.

RE: PokéBeach VGC Domination - Professional Organized Team

I'm going to start working on my team. A hail team could be fun to run.

RE: PokéBeach VGC Domination - Professional Organized Team

I don't know how good it would be in doubles, but Lapras might be ok for your Hail Team. It also can learn electric attacks to hurt rain teams. Having Water Absorb also is useful.

RE: PokéBeach VGC Domination - Professional Organized Team

^I know this might not mean much, but Lapras did do good last year on Trick Room. I think it might be all right on hail, giving you Weather Control, and immunity to water. Lapras's base SpA is pretty good too, making it a viable option for taking out Kyogre and other Rain teams.

RE: PokéBeach VGC Domination - Professional Organized Team

I've come up with a test team. Anyone up for a match on netbattle?

RE: PokéBeach VGC Domination - Professional Organized Team

IDK hail can sometimes be tricky.
I think Lapras w/ Perish song, trick room would be good. But in doubles that seems like a more risky plan.

Trick Room Lapras with Rain Support might actually be a good idea, since most legendaries [like Kyogre] you'll see on the opposing side won't go below 80 or 90 base speed, and WAter Absorb wouldn't exactly hurt either. <.<
