XY Pokémon X / Y : Disappointments & Possible Improvements

RE: Pokémon X / Y : Disappointments and Possible Improvements

For me, the disappointing part is the non-existent post game and the lack of legendaries. I wasn't expecting the legendary madness of the past Gens, but having only 4 legendaries in the game, out of which 2 are Gen I, I get a bit down. The post game is way more serious though. I imagine that it's partly because of the fact that connection with other players now plays a bigger part, but still. The Looker side story was fun, but it was not enough.
Oh, and the games really are easy. Obviously, I never expected a great challenge, but this was really disappointing, especially the levelling storm. I turned off the Exp. Share before the 2nd Gym because I felt like I was cheating! My brother kept it longer, and he was actually 5 levels ahead of the Gym leaders while he hadn't used half his team. He didn't use Snorlax as well because he was so far ahead. The E4 were also the worst of any Gen. Seriously, Wikstrom had Klefki? What kind of E4 is this? I played with a team ranging from 54 to 59 and got them in one go.
Honestly, they could have worked more on it. It was not bad, but some things really stick out.

At least somebody got the point in one go. THe only major thing I've read here would be the "cries" and even that is not something that would totally ruin the game. The seasons would be an interesting addition though, but I would assume it would cause more lag issues due to added effects and more data to put into the game.

The point of this thread isn't to discuss things that would "totally ruin the game" but to discuss things you were disappointed by. Just shortcomings, things that irked you but are not deal breakers. Personally, I quite love the game.

As for the seasons, I doubt that they would cause much trouble. They are essentially weather effects, which the game has, and change in colors. I think it would be awesome to implement them.

And as for having to wait for the season you want to be in to capture certain Pokemon: that makes the game a bit more engaging and keeps it interesting even post game. If you were able to complete everything as soon as possible and always have the same options, the game becomes stale after a while. Seasons would help with introducing new, although not major, difference into the game and allow players to explore older areas and regain a sense of appreciation for areas they have already passed over. I love going back to earlier routes in Black 2 and discovering piles of autumn leaves that provided me access to areas I could not previously access. It made me want to explore route even more and to discover new Pokemon in changed environments. Its logical and mirrors the real world while adding a twist to rarity and value in certain Pokemon. Rather than merely having Pokemon be hard to find due to low encounter rates, seasons can make certain Pokemon appear more or for the first time at all.

Again, I see it as wasted potential and wasted potential disappoints me.

And you left something out: seasons were gorgeous. Absolutely beautiful. And the inmersion, too.

You want to know why seasons must be in a game? look no further than skyrim.

RE: Pokémon X / Y : Disappointments and Possible Improvements

I think they'll implement the seasons with the third edition again.
I really don't get why they implement things, just to leave'em out in the next generation again. Like the Pokémon following you in HGSS, which I'd love to have even now (best case: Have my whole team following me xD).

RE: Pokémon X / Y : Disappointments and Possible Improvements

Idk, the story is just an excuse to get you used the game and mechanics. What keeps me playing Pokemon and logging hundeds of hours of play time is the breeding. For me, the real game doesn't start until I'm able to collect my dittos and get working on building perfect Pokemon. Taking down the Battle Maison will most likely be even harder than last games' Subway. Isn't Pokemon all about battling? A definite improvement is the Destiny Knot mechanic. My life as a breeder just became that much better!

RE: Pokémon X / Y : Disappointments and Possible Improvements

About how chalenging the game is, you just have to stop the Exp. Share, and then go to the options and TURN OFF the "Ask to change pokemon when opponent is changing pokemon", that escalates the challenge quite a lot.

The disappointing part is how very few hairstyle we got for the customization, and a very few color at that. I want some unnatural color like blue, green or pink. The more the merrier.

Another disappointing part is a Gym Leader, Elite 4, even a Champion didn't get their own battle animation while the team Flare grunt get one. Seriously, i'm amazed with every Elite 4 chamber animation, and then they themself didn't get a cool animation?

At least the legendaries meant something this time around. I remember the double standard here where people complained of too much legendaries, now they made the legendaries harder to access and yet people still complain about it.

Haha, ya. I remembered this pic now

In the R/B/Y we had only four legendary Pokémon + Mew and it was fine. Later GameFreak decided to give us a flood of legendaries. Some of them weren't even needed. There was no story behind their existence. They could have been made as non-legendary too. Now we have three legendary pokemon (not sure if there is anything hidden - like Mew), so being a legendary means something special again.

I'm not asking for 10+ legendaries. I'm asking for the traditional trio. Zygarde is way less powerful than Xerneas and Yveltal despite everything about it suggesting that it is the Z legendary. Great, a legendary edition of Garchomp... You can each your mascot, Zygarde, Mewtwo and one of the birds in every game. This also contributes to the post game. Legendaries were an important part of it in the past. They could have at least implemented all the birds of Kanto instead of just one.

Then you wouldn't need to trade and communicate with others if that was the case. I think anyone playing this game should get the memo early on that this game encourages interaction with other people far more than any game in the franchise.

My main disappointment with the games is that only 70(ish?) new Pokemon were introduced.
I was expecting around 100 Pokemon because of the general pattern Gamefreak has followed:
Gen 1: Around 150
Gen 2: Around 100
Gen 3: Around 150
Gen 4: Around 100
Gen 5: Around 150
You'd think that 100 new Pokemon would be in 6th generation, but I guess not.
Maybe they only added 70 because of the 29 Mega Evolutions introduced, which would add up to almost 100?
Anyway, I'm not at all saying this ruined the game for me. I'm just saying it would be nice to add maybe 20 more Pokemon?

Maybe it really is the 20 or so Megas along with the effort of redesigning and re-typing certain Pokemon to fairy which caused the drop in new Pokemon this generation.

- villains are crap
I don't like how the world looks, lemme just kill everyone because we all know that fixes everything.
- Lack of 3D in the overworld is disappointing (although I can understand, I guess :/)
- the legendary bird event is tedious and stupid
- not that many new Pokemon
- some mega evolutions are unnecessary and some obliterate the balance of the metagame (Mewtwo Y)
- haha the post-game

If you played Gates to Infinity then you'd also know that its plot was pretty much stolen to create a motive for Team Flare. Along with that, once you beat Olympia, the end of Team Flare is really abrupt. And then beating in a pokemon battle Lysandre somehow foils their plans?

I just finished this all today and I'm pretty disappointed about it, but since it's overall an amazing game, I guess I shouldn't be complaining.

I'm quite disappointed with the lack of new moves, and Team Flare is just plainly stupid. Trying to create a beautiful world while it's already beautiful? Uh, okay. I also want more pokemon but that's another story. :p

Think I already mentioned this. Still, I repeat, the post game seems a bit empty w/o a trio. It's not bad, just a bit... weird. I guess that after all it's a matter of taste.

....please, that is such a weak argument. Even without them, people are trading and communicating with each other like crazy. True, they shall encourage interaction between players, but given the situation that, for one legendary bird, people are asking for Yveltal or some other Pokémon that isn't even available in-game, it's rather discouraging.

And yeah, it's ironic that people are complaining about a lack of legendarys. But maybe the people complaining about a lack of legendaries and the people complaining about an overdose on legendaries are (and here is the big surprise) not the same people.
True, we had a whole lot of legendaries in the past two generations, but going from extreme to another is not the way to go imo.
Given that we have a Uber tier, which would love to see more addition to it than just 5 Pokémon (counting Mewtwo's X & Y form). That is. if all new legendaries make it into Uber, what's not going to happen.

On the lack of Pokémon problem:

As much as I love the concept of megaevos, I just cannot accept them as a replacement for new Pokémon. Megaevos are for me like Giratina with platin orb. It's just an alternative form and not a completely new Pokémon.

Gates to Infinity? It's more of a redux of gen 3's plot, eg. the evil team awakens a sleeping legendary Pokemon in order to cause havoc or further their goals.

Also, anyone notice that the Daycare guy turns to face you when he has an egg? Such a great improvement, really. Better than the game stopping to call you.

Did you even play Gates to Infinity? The story was centered around Kyurem and his minions trying to wipe out the world because the pokemon in it were "evil" and it wasn't beautiful anymore. The only difference was that they weren't going to save themselves, unlike Team Flare. They're almost exactly the same.

I don't like that you *HAVE* to have BW2 in order to get the Medals! I really liked the medals and I only played BW2 on Emulator. Can't they just add the Medals in NORMALLY? I HATE this Gamesync BS.

...What?
You do get medals without having BW2. Otherwise I would've have re-earned old medals and earned stuff like the Grand Duchess medal :p You just need to use Game Sync to see what you've got, and that really isn't that much of a hassle when most people have wireless internet in their home or access to it elsewhere.
