BW/BW2 Pokemon Black & White Reviews

I'm ok with everything in the game. The Games are awesome!!!!!!! I LOVE CASTELIA CITY!!!!! Even though I haven't gotten there yet....
One thing I will always miss is walking around with you Pokemon like in HeartGold and SoulSilver.
Took me forever to beat the first gym.....Cilan with his Pansage.....
I Love that they kept some of the music from HeartGold and SoulSilver... That was sure a surprise!!!!
I reward Black and White with a 10/10 :D Congrats, you earned it!

Training seems to take me a little longer than it has in past games, and I like the fact that when it says "So&so is sending out Watchog!" I'm like, "What is that?!"
Even though I've seen all of the new pokemon, I don't know them by name, nor do I know how good or bad they are.

Things I dislike, are that the C-Gear is ALWAYS in your bottom screen, and they got rid of the perfect bottom screen from HGSS. I also miss that pokemon could follow you around. Really added a nice charm to the game, and I think they should have gotten more use out of the 500 or so sprites they made for HGSS's follow pokemon.
Astetically, the game really stands out. However, when you're picking your moves, it looks so crappy. Sooo crappy that it looks like something someone threw together in paint. I don't really get how that happened. Ick.

I'm hearing that you don't have to use HM moves much anymore, which is a big disappointment. I loved interacting with the world and surfing around from place to place.

I just beat the second gym, and evolved my cutepig into uglypig, so I am not too far into the game. I think I'll have more to say about it once I'm done for sure.

dislikes (so far...only past clay so i may have more):
WHY NO TRAINER MOVEMENT? they just sit there and then the pokeball comes out of them...what happened? you can make fully animated pokemon but not trainers?
the learning curve on this game is....INSANE. route 2 they have lvl 8's...its probably that i suck but i had to do the electric gym 4 times because of her stupid volt switch.
again...i probably suck but nothing is obvious in this game. you always have no clue where to get HM's. team plasma will just run off and you have to guess where they are (seriously finding them in that giant city...i had no clue. and i would have never guessed that i had to go to that cold storage place to find them. CLAY SAID that they went over the bridge...)
and just nitpicking why when they took the bones of the dragonite (at least i think its a dragonite) why did they only take the head? lol

likes:
EVERYTHING lol. N takes the show in this game with his just craziness "LET ME HEAR THERE CRIES" LOL.
the views and atmosphere is amazing
the music is some of the best in any pokemon game
i still just stare at the movments of the poke
i could go on all day lol

you can make fully animated pokemon but not trainers?

Last time I checked, you spend 99% of a battle staring at the pokemon, not the pokemon's owner. That's probably why they have animations. IMO I'm not too fond of the anims for the pokemon anyway. Animations I believe, suit 3D models better because in a 2D sprite, the repetitiveness of the animation is very much more blatant as it cycles between the same 2-3 frames. Have you ever seen an animated gif with only 2 or 3 frames? That's what the pokemon animate like in BW

^some are pretty awesome and alot of them just involve them bouncing up and down i guess but really...you cant make them just throw a pokeball?

you cant make them just throw a pokeball?

That will require designing each of the dozens of sprites such that the throw posture syncs with the XY pos of the place where the pokeball appears (like the throw animation when the player character throws his pokeball).

...which would probably mean the same posture for all the NPC trainers. Unless Game Freak can dynamically associate a throw anim with the pokeball (not going to be easy because that'd either mean lots of animation frames, or coding the pokeball's XY pos and trajectory individually for each NPC). BUT I SUPPOSE IF THEY COULD EFFORT TO MAKE 600+ POKEMONS ANIMATING...

^lol. exactly but the game is near perfect...although it does have its flaws like i said earlier.

Likes:
- Team Plasma, They are like a religious version of PETA including their radical views on animals and terrorism towards the benefits of animals. Interesting....
- The city and desert resort are pretty cool

Dislikes:
- Seems like more grinding then previous games although the double exp item would probably help with that.
- Trying to figure out which Pokemon to send out after I knock a trainer's dude out, I have to look them all up...
- Lots of Lame Dialogue, I just wanna train my Sandile.
- The Bug Gym Leader looks scary.

^ya i find alot more grinding to...and that is called strategy...looking at your guys to figure what would be best lol

grinding does not equate to strategy. It's just fighting pokemon over and over. You don't even need to strategise, you just walk through grass and mow down Tabunnes, it's not rocket science, lol.

When I did EV training back in the emerald days, grinding was so unstrategic that I literally was button mashing just to get battles over and done with ASAP

I so agree with this.

Despite my doubts, I think I will give Generation V a chance. Not all the new Pokemon are ugly as several critics claim to be and If you actually look past that Black/White looks to be like a great title to the video game franchise not only as a refresh to the metagame but also a new playing experience as well.

I don't like the fact that my Old Pokemon are banned this year for VGC's but I can live with it as long as my friends are okay with running new Pokemon only in their games as well. Sometimes you just have to accept things for what they are otherwise you're not going to be able to move along.

no XieRH i was talking about his second point...not the poine of grinding. looking at your guys thinking which one to send out next is strategical...obviously :p

^oh lol. i have to do that too or just russian roulette it lol. i didnt look at the pokedex before the game so its just like oh man ive never heard of this guy what type is he am i going to lose lol. good thing most of them just by there look are easy to guess but some like stunfisk....i had no clue (i thought water eletric... or water ground and it was shiny lol i had no clue...so i caught it lol)

Okay I have A LOT of criticisms:

1) The battle animations where the pokemon move suck as it's really pixilated which is annoying.
2) The new pokemon are mediocre, but their names are terrible. I mean trubbish? And Thundurus? That's just thunder with an us on the end. And don't get me started on that zebra thing...
3) The story line is poor. Team plasma fail miserably in comparison to team rocket or galactic as they aren't really villains, they are just annoying hippie morons. The point is they are meant to be evil, not misguided morons who serve a child as their king. Also, seriously, the bad guy is called N? That's not a name; that's laziness. Oh yeah and how could I forget Roggenrolla? That is just horrific.
4) Cheren and Bianca. I can't stand them. I liked it better when you had a neighbour and then a rival. Cheren and Bianca were annoying.
5) The postgame is too short. HGSS has 8 more gyms to fight, and this has 3 towns and some new caves. Pretty poor considering the main story was so short to begin with!
6) The elite four were terrible. I beat them first time without any items other than 10 hyper potions and 3 revives. All my pokemon between levels 48 and 50. Also the gym leaders were rubbish.
7) No perma run is annoying.
8) The seven sages should have battled you when you found them, or at least done something interesting. Just sayin'.
9) Like in d/p and r/s the gyms and e4 should have been higher levelled. There should be more to do between gyms, so you can gain a solid 8 or 9 levels between gym battles. I miss the days when you're pokemon were level 60 at e4 fighting similarly leveled pokemon.
10) The game was way too short. There wasn't enough to do.
11) The relic items let you become insanely rich allowing you to buy anything which screws the post-game up.
12) Nitpicking now, but the gym puzzles were boring. They should be more challenging.

Okay now for things I like:

1) HMs not playing a big role. LOVE THIS, it was so annoying having to have cut, rock climb, strength, etc on your pokemon when you were trying to defeat the e4. Means you can start to make decent movesets.
2) The music is unbelievable.
3) TMs being unlimited use.
4) Variety of pokemon you can catch. Very cool that you have so much choice this time around, made the game far more interesting.
5) Decent levels on wild pokemon for a change.

Okay I'm done now :)

My first impressions on B/W in general were bad (running out of new Pokemon ideas, annoying that they've kept the yellow border on the cards) but now I am really into B/W.

Main positives:
-Not much HM use (only Cut required)
-TMs can be used multiple times
-Final N battle
-Love the starters, they're all great
-Movement in battles instead of still sprites
-Triple battles
-Two rivals
-Bag layout
-Lots of wild Stage 1 Pokemon
-Easy to fill Pokedex
-Pokemart built into Pokemon Centre
And much more.

Disadvantages:
-The moving sprites are pixelated
-The Seven Sages should play a bigger role
-It's too easy: I'm at 8th gym and I haven't lost once yet
-Some of the Pokemon names are pathetic

In general, it is a great game that I would give a 9.5/10, but it would be nice if the disadvantages were sorted. Who knows, maybe there'll be a new game similar to Platinum with more action for the Unova region.

-I want the Gym leaders to have 5 or 4 pokemon. 3? I want it to be a challenge.
-I don't like it when Prof. Juniper is usually in the middle of our adventure
-I wanted Team Plasma to be a hard, challenging team
-I don't like Emboar Fire/Fighting we already have two! Thats plenty!
-I want Gym rematches
