*sarcasm* you said i would hate myself if i looked at what i had done and i did and it was just a stunning realization *sarcasm*.....and lets think for one moment please. if you spent 1500 on cards YOU WOULD BE GUARANTEED ALOT of like 50-100 dollar cards...like alot. and the rest would be worth at least still 20's....for one card. you would easily get back to what you paid for...heck just sell 15 100 dollar cards and you have already reimbursed yourself. and that is 15 out of....like thousands

Are we still arguing over an article over Pokemon cards...? 160 posts is atrocious.

Why wouldn't Pokemon be a profit? I'll share a little story with you.

So once I went to the store and bought 3 packs of Rising Rivals. 4 dollars a pack is 12 dollars. I open my first pack and pull Flygon X. "That card is worth about 18.00," I said to myself. Not to mention my RH Nidoqueen and some okay commons/uncommons. I contacted a local business in my area and asked them how much they would pay for all the cards. They tell me that they'll give me 30 dollars for all the stuff in the packs. I sold it to them and made a profit of 18 dollars(Flygon X's value, coincidentially). And I go home with 18 dollars in my pocket. :)

I have to say, some of your points could not be disagreeable. After reading 11 pages of pure argument, I understand where you are getting at.

Unfortunately, some of the points you have made have caused this 11 pages of chaos, and I truly think that Pokemon is not a money-stealing scheme. I was able to buy a pretty nice pair of jeans with the money I made on that. I'm wearing them right now. :)

So that's my two cents. :)

Did you finish reading my post?
"That's like saying food is a leech on your wallet unless you're eating nothing but cheap rice and water."
You can survive of cheap rice and water pretty well. Lots of foods are purely a luxury and are not needed to survive. Also it now occurs to me that i said eating water >_>

What? You talk about the financial side of Pokemon in every single one of your posts. Its obvious your a money driven person. I used a financial situation so you could understand your ignorance but you obviously avoided it because you know Im right. I dont think there is a point in having a discussion with you as you bring up very weak arguments and you can't even develop your opinions on it.

Also your point @Dark mind, If he just said the tournaments are free, then why would they need to pay $20 each? If that was the case, they are still doing a business and providing a service. You honestly don't understand how the world works. If we bought something for the same price as the seller, then the economy wouldn't exist, there would be nothing.

^could you imagine...they make a pack of cards for 50 cents and we buy them for 50 cents...that would be amazing lol. its a very weak argument because many of have proven...it can be profitable.

Well here is my two cents.

Having Pokemon as a hobby costs money - to TCG players and VG players. But there are many hobbies out there, and they all cost money. Most of them a LOT more than Pokemon.

But if you care about the hobby and don't mind spending the money, they your aren't losing. You gain the cards/ games/ whatever from your spending as an award for your job/ allowance/ whatever.

So its just a matter of an opinion really. Therefore your poll is pointless, because 'yes' Pokemon cost money. The rest depends if you have the money or think it is worth it.

Not many people will choose the third option, but we all know it's what everybody honestly thinks. They don't want to face reality, the truth. They can't handle the truth
If that is what you truly think, they why even post that option in the poll? Why even make the thread? Just stop whining. Forget money, if you care about Pokemon enough to waste your time on a Pokemon forum like us, then money shouldn't be a problem.

My answer is 'no' because I disagree with the article. Not because I think Pokemon doesn't cost money.

Pokemon is a hobby. The only hobby that doesn't cost money is stealing trash...

Plus, TCG's are expensive. Magic and YGO cost way more. I've played 'em both...

well when they get rid of tcg sets all they want is more money. its really hard. next thing you know is that all your cards are ellegall and you want more cards because you cant play in terament.

Tell me this, did you ever have fun playing the card game? Obviously, or you wouldnt keep buying the cards. Id rather be happy doing things, than worry about money.

@ Pretty much the whole 11th page - CAN BE. I seem to be hearing that a lot. Can be. Somebody made 18$ on cards. Once. Now, how many times did you blow your money on it and get crap? More than 18$ worth, that's how many times. How many tiems do they make a profit off you? Every time. And I know exactly how the world works, but that's not my point. I realize you need to pay more than what the company does, but 6-10 times as much? Hmm.... No, that would never be a waste of money. And why would they spend 20$ or more? Packs, deck boxes, sleeves, mats, trades, personal buys, raffles, you name it.

@Safariblade - Yeah, everybody should "just forget money". That's why we had to add a digit to the national debt counter. And how does posting here affect my finances? However, you did hit one thing on the nose. "Waste your time on a pokemon forum like us..." Obviously I'm wasting my time, but I will not relent until people get the frickin message. Your judgement and that of most others on this website is severely clouded. You fight the fact that you're wasting too much money on pokemon because you don't want to believe it.'

125wert50 - I can name many that don't cost a dollar. And obviously, or I wouldn't be saying it.

Porygon_P - Precisely. They want you to buy more, buy more, buy more, so then you can play in the free tournaments. The free tournaments are just you getting a small perventage of your money back, really. I totally agree with you there.

Cofagrigus - Obviously I don't play any more. So I do not keep buying the cards. And like has been said before, "A fool and his money are soon parted."

Of course they want us to buy more as does any part of the entertainment industry, hence video games having sequels ( in some case more than where ever needed).

As for you claiming a fool and his money are soon parted, replace the word money with hobby and then look at yourself, I may be stepping close to offensive there but I don't believe everyone who plays the game should be labelled a fool by some kid who couldn't tell the difference between funny and idiotic.

But these words shall fall on deaf ears as you constantly have to prove that your never wrong even when the majority retort your claims with thought-out intelligent and most importantly rational arguments.

As for your tree growing 'plan' why should anyone buy your goods when you could just buy there own seeds and grow there own, to save themselves from 'your' money making scheme

again pretty weak argument. you could buy 18 dollars worth of cards (lets see a tin maybe) 4 packs, you get a lvl x and a couple staples. you easily made your money back i did that the other day bought a tin got tangrowth x and some other staples i needed so 25+ dollars worth of stuff out of a 16 dollar tin. come on be practical. if they made getting a good card so hard no one would buy. sure theres risk but not that much.

Pain - That's where people like pokemon players come in. Not much financial sense. Plus if they want the food now, they don't have time to grow their own. "A hobby and his money are soon parted." That doesn't quite fit. Nice attempt though.

catutie - Yeah, a 16$ tin it cost them 2$ to make and I'm sure you got 25$ worth. I totally believe that a Tangrowth X plus staples would add up to that much. Pllus, if it were sooo easy like you claim, why would anybody pay 25$ for your stuff when they could just go buy their own for such a 'good deal'?

^thus why we have traders. lol. instead of buying all that and not getting what they want they can just trade. and if they made the tin for 16 dollars and sold it for 16 they wouldnt make no profit -_- dont go stupid on me.

Yeah, I'm the one with the weak argument. Duh they have to sell for more than they make it for. But you shouldn't pay 6-10 times what they pay.

im sure that you have to pay 10x what the manufacture payed for the seeds you buy. they just get an apple from there orchard put 10 in a thin paper package and sell them...so what 1 (dang...no cent sign lol) penny...and you buy it for 10-50 cents. ya talk about mark up. come on its business it doesnt work if you dont mark up lol

This whole thread is just completely pointless. Everyone has picked a side and nobody will sway, most people will just continue to give good reasons whey THEY enjoy the game, while Rikko will not budge from his distorted viewpoints about Pokemon. Yes, it costs money, but if the player enjoys it and is willing to spend however much he or she is spending, WHY DO YOU CARE? Honestly, it's none of your business telling them that they shouldn't play because it's a waste of THEIR money.

If society falls, which for one is neigh impossible, many things will be useless, including your computer that you mentioned earlier in the thread. If we enjoy it, what expert are you on our lives to tell us it's bad to play this game? Also, you seem to only respond to the weaker points made by the members here, and tend to ignore the points that are true, which leads me to believe that you agree with them, at least in the back of your mind. Besides, your arguments are shaky and unreliable AT BEST, and nearly all of them are a "What if" situation where you ignore many other possible outcomes of said event.

There you go again Rikko saying pokemon players are dumb, if where so dumb why don't you just give up and leave, oh wait cause you love the attention.

Face facts TCPi is the same as any company on the planet, Say the shirt your wearing cost you $10, do you think it cost the store you bought it from $10? no it was probably $2, thats a 5 times increase there.

If you hate mark ups so much why don't you go live in the woods somewhere and survive on nuts and berry's cause thats the only way your going to live for free.

You say that the cards cost pennies to make, which is true. But do you know ANYTHING about overhead costs? They have to pay the employees to print the cards, the folks to translate cards, the web masters to keep the site running for OP, the people in charge of Organized Play, the prizes for those who play competitively, renting a venue for sanctioned events, plus advertising costs. Where do you think most of the money goes? Yes, some of it is profit, I get that. But a good chunk of it gets recycled back into OP for the folks that play.

Most hobbies cost money. If you enjoy something enough, you're going to spend money on it. Case closed. If you say "A fool and his money are soon parted," then you don't enjoy the hobby enough to feel you are getting your money's worth from it.

You're just sore because you got banned, Rikko.

You shouldn't have to pay 6-10 times? Who said? Is there anyone offering cardboard for cheaper? YES! Good! Now go buy your cardboard there, it's a lot less useful in a tournament!

Pokémon can charge however much they want. You can buy however much you want. If you think the price is too high, don't buy their product. Buy cardboard somewhere else.
