Pokkén Tournament Championship Series Confirmed!

Hey, if these control are anything like Smash Bros... I might actually get good at this. : D

I fully was expecting this. I wouldn't be surprised if there is an application process to host local events for Championship Points or whatever system they will use for the game.

This doesn't work in a competitive environment. For a 2-player battle, one player has to use the GamePad and the other some type of pro controller. Two people who prefer one type of controller will probably start a fist fight in order to get it.

No matter how good everything else is, the impracticality of the controllers makes the possibility of this being a viable tournament fighter at competitions an impossibility.

Correction - Player one HAS to use the Gamepad for local play since each player needs their own screen. The game supports system link where 2 systems need to connect to one another. In that mode, both players can use their controller of choice. There just needs to be 2 Wii U, 2 copies of the game, 2 TVs and a LAN adapter.

Like anyone would want to go through that much trouble and spend that much money xD

Anyway it still sounds like fun!

Oh, that's a little bit better. A little bit. :/

At major tournaments like EVO I suppose it's alright, but as @Plasma Dragon ninja'd me above, local tournaments without thousands of dollars of funding won't be able to spend that much money at all.

I hope it will be like mortal combat and injustice gods among us those r my favoriot fighting games. Just with pokemon instead of ninjas and super heros

Even for local events it won't be a problem. For example, I have a Wii U and a 19 inch TV. I can just bring my setup to an event, like the smash community does. Yeah it sucks we have to bring twice the equipment but if we can set these things up, we can have people bring their equipment to run the event.

Oh, I guess that's alright. I've never been to nor heard of a Smash tournament where the equipment isn't already provided though, so I wasn't aware that this was ever a thing that happened.

The other issue is space. Venues can get pretty packed for any tournament... each match taking up two TVs will still limit practicality massively, though not to the same extent.

Venue size can be a issue since running it in a small home or apartment could be a problem. It could also affect tournament times if you have a large amount of people and not enough space.

The whole problem of screens and controllers could be avoided if the programmers made it split screen. Or at least an option for it. And you could use two pro controllers at once.

The game was developed by the Tekken creators. The fight style is much like Tekken and Street fighter. You can use the controller of choice. The game is a smash button game and has little to do with strategy, until you hit the elite level. At the elite levels, the players play with such precision that it takes years to get to that point. Evo presents some of the most elite players out there that have strong grasps on Tekken and Street fighter. If your a pokemon fan and want to play at that level, I'd suggest you absolutely quit the card game, because the guys that play at that level are professionals.

But ya, I have Tekken and Street Fighter. I don't think I'm going to get the video game because my kids might not want to ever play the card game. They already spend to much time playing Street Fighter. Awe Use It!

Full EVO lineup for those who are interested. [Mods if there's a better place for this post feel free to move/delete it]

Amazon search: Super Smash Bros Melee (this one's always a kicker. I gotta replace mine soon because the disc isn't reading sometimes)
Amazon search: RCA or any brand fat TV
Amazon search: Nintendo Gamecube

Now add the prices.

Do you assume every tournament host has access to the money to furnish a room with these essentials for a Melee tournament? No. Go to any tournament (or at least local ones from my experiences), and they'll usually ask that players bring in their own hardware to provide enough places to play. Add a simple registry with labels and boom, there goes your worry of theft. Chances are if a player is interested in the tournament scene, they're probably going to own a Wii U and a copy of this game. Shouldn't be too hard to find a couple of people willing to donate their hardware for the day.

Also, LAN connection is really simple. Nintendo even has an official adapter out there dating back to the Wii that they recommend for faster online play.

Nintendo's idea is actually better though from a competitive standpoint. Keep in mind that the human brain can only process so much. By splitting the screen and have each split display a different perspective, you're diverting attention from your side. You can say this isn't a problem by just focusing on our side, but human vision just doesn't work like that due to how wide our viewpoint is. Having just one screen focusing on just your perspective allows the competitor to take in all the information they can process without unneeded distractions.

I mostly meant for fun/casual play/inside a single household (sorry should have said that in my post.) Most familys can't afford two Wii U's and two TV's and two copies of a 50-60$ dollar game. Anyways for a tournament of course the organizer could not pay for so much hardware (most of the time.) But a Wii U costs more than five times the amount a Wii or a Gamecube costs so there is a greater chance of theft. But what do I know? I just play for fun with my family, I am not some pro or even a competitive player. I just wish they gave it a few more options, You know, for fun players :p

So a Play! series for Pokken Tournament? Didn't realize how serious they were with this. I can only assume this means a constant bolstering of the roster like a MOBA to keep the meta fresh and to garner excitement.
