BW/BW2 Racial Drama?

I really don't get why people keep discussing this, heck, I don't even know why there's a thread for it. What's the difference between black and white people? There's none. It's only realistic for Game Freak to make a black woman. I mean, why not? If there can be white people in the game, then there can easily be black people too.

What if I made a game where 95% of the characters were black? Would I be considered racist? If that's racist, then a majority of games are racist too, since I can't think of any game that's like that.

Time has changed. Obama is the president of the United States. If people can't stand black people in games, how in the world are they gonna stand black people in real life?

I think people are more afraid that GF will play on some racial stereotypes. I.e., many people think Aloe looks like the mammy stereotype. Considering that Jynx was at least partially inspired by blackface serves to support this. GF isn't necessarily trying to be racist, after all, to the Japanese such a stereotype is perfectly fine because they hold no negative connotations in Japan as opposed to the US.

lolz @tyrannitard: aloe=aunt jemima, haha
and the lombre thing was a joke because its name is a pun on the word hombre, it has a mustache and a sombrero, and its pose in SOME of its artwork and sprites is that of the "lazy/sleeping mexican"
anyway....it was just a joke and i always thought as a kid that jynx was an opera singer (like the fat viking lady, without the horned helmet stereotype)

The difference between white and black people is that "black people" are generally dark brown, and "white people" tend to be more pale beige/pink. :p Obama isn't black, he's light brown.

But "black" and "white" are not accurate descriptions of races. There are many dark-skinned races, and many light-skinned races. And also a whole bunch in between.

Besides, the issue was not that the character is brown. The issue is that she looks like a stereotype. I agree, but I don't care. But some people might care. And they might make a fuss about it.

what that person said. i dont care that she is black or that ash is white. were talking about whether or not its ok if people are sterotypes and if a character is played by someone of a diferent race.

I think the strangest thing regarding race in the whole Black/White was the use of Michael Jackson's "Black or White" as background music for one of the Japanese promo spots (don't remember which one, or if it was more than one.)

Why use a song that had racial implications? (obviously, MJ was singing about bringing the races together.)
But that seems like there might be something to the race thing, even if it is a positive things, like promoting world unity.
There will always be the far right in American to attack a Japanese show that promotes peace and friendship among all people of the world.

^that sounds like a fan vid, or else we all would have heard of this if it was official

i went back and it's in the AUG 7th ad for Victini.

if its not clear to you what song it is, @ 00:32, MJ clearly sings "Black or White"

How many people in Japan understand English well enough to know what the song is about? I'm not sure as I've never been in Japan. But I'm guessing that the majority of children watching that show won't know what the song is about.

If people have a problem with Aloe, then I will be sad. She in no way represents anything that has to do with black people, other than the fact that she is black. Iris is the same. People need to chill.

I would just like to address a few things in your post. First of all, not many people think racism when they hear MJ's song, they think it's a fun song and don't go much further. Second of all, the far right does not attack people for being racist, in fact a lot of people consider the far right racist. It.s the far left that freaks out about race.

TenTales, I think creamyjeremy thought that the far right would protest because the show will have racial diversity. Not because they are concerned about the way Anou is portrayed.

I don't think the far right will care. Many shows promote equality and peace. And they probably won't let their children watch Japanese show anyway if they're racist.

aloe is aunt jemima, deal with it.
but in all seriousness, who cares?
does it really matter if shes black?
and wasnt that chick from the gen4 battle frontier black?
and why do some people have a problem with aroe and not iris, i mean she is running around in a forest like a homeless feral/wild child
again: why do people give a shit about her race?

I don't care about racism because I hate all people equally.

Who here actually thinks Iris is black? She looks Asian, or Hawaiian or something.
