Random Facts Thread!

Take this sir Pokequaza.

The Pelican Eel is a deep sea fish seldom seen by man, except for the occasional snag in a fishing net. They grow up to a meter in length, and use their wip-like tail to catch prey.

I'd post a pic, but they're very disturbing looking and don't want to get warned.

Okay.. Another fact..? I don't get what you mean by that..

However, Pelican Eels do not use their tail to catch prey, well it has never been observed, so why should we assume they do? Pelican Eels use their mouth to catch prey. By quickly opening and closing its mouth it creates a vacuum that can suck in smaller and even bigger fish, although it feeds mainly on crustaceans. Their tail is used for movement I suppose, just like any other fish.

haha @ Pokequaza your too literal about things.

Look what I done, I typed random facts in google and behold

Some facts I found:

Texas is the only state in the US that allows its residents to vote from space.

Mario, from Super Mario, was originally named “Jumpman”, although his name was later changed to honor Nintendo of America’s landlord, Mario Segali.

The most children born to one woman was 69, she was a peasant who lived a 40 year life, in which she had 16 twins, 7 triplets, and 4 quadruplets

There are 3 colors that don’t rhyme with anything (silver, orange, and purple)

The average person comes in contact with over 1000 phone calls a day (This includes walking through offices, getting cut off by people on their cell phones while driving, ETC, don’t just think about your neighborhood, think worldy, imagine how many people on their cell phones a person in new york would come across in one day, well over 1000, where in some rural areas that might not be the case, however when these 2 are averaged it comes out to be approximately 1000 ON AVERAGE)

Don't you mean 16 sets of twins, 7 sets of triplets, and 4 sets of quadruplets? That adds up to 69 children.

I love that link. "Dueling is legal in Paraguay as long as both parties are registered blood donors." is one of my favorites

Dr. Seuss published the word, "burp", in one of his stories in the 1950's, then considered vulgar.

Also, that page is inaccurate. No one for sure knows how 7-Up's name came around.

On that note, I know an US quarter dollar coin has 119 ridges. They were given the ridges because counterfeiters were cutting the silver out of coins to make ridges themselves, thus devaluing the coin. The ridges were later added to prevent this, since if you cut the ridges off, the edges of the coin would be smooth, and you'd be able to tell.

Actually it isn't. The longest name is the official name for Bangkok, Thailand. Fully written it is; Krung Thep Mahanakhon Amon Rattanakosin Mahinthara Ayuthaya Mahadilok Phop Noppharat Ratchathani Burirom Udomratchaniwet Mahasathan Amon Piman Awatan Sathit Sakkathattiya Witsanukam Prasit. A total of 163 letters (95 in Thai).

Second comes Tetaumatawhakatangihangakoauaotamateaurehaeaturipukapihimaungahoronukupokaiwhenuaakitanarahu (New Zealand) with 92 letters, although it is believed that it was just like Llanfairpwl..etc. made longer to have their name in the Guinness Book of Records.

More facts I found over the internet:

In 1996 Americans bought $2.6 billion worth of gum.

The human brain uses approximately as much energy as a 10 watt light bulb.

Americans consume approximately 6 gallons (23 liters) of ice cream per person per year.

Fleas can accelerate 50 times faster than the space shuttle.

Alright, found another one:

If you have 3 quarters, 4 dimes, and 4 pennies, you have $1.19. You also have the largest amount of money in coins without being able to make change for a dollar.

That's sweet. ^

I've read that one before WP. Yeah that was a pretty interesting fact.

Here is one: If you yelled for 8 years, 7 months and 6 days, you would have produced enough sound energy to heat one cup of coffee.

Ice Arceus, now that one is cool. Very very cool.

Nirvana's song "Come as you Are" features a main riff extremely similar to the Killing Joke song, "the Eighties". KJ was allegedly going to file a lawsuit, but dropped it. Conflicting reports say that it was dropped because of Nirvana frontman's death, or that the court would not hear the case.

You guys should listen to those songs, I like both of them. The riff is awesome, its like a wave.

EDIT: Apparently, there has been allegations that Killing Joke plagiarized the riff from a song called "Life Goes On" by The Da**ed.

They're all done differently, so I think there shouldn't be a problem.

Here are two more:
