“Squirtle, use water gun!” my trainer, Link commanded. I obediently shot a blast of water out of my mouth, hitting the opponent’s Charmander dead-on.
“All right, Squirtle, we won!” Link shouted excitedly.
“Hey, little green parrot!” our ship’s captain, Linebeck, called from the dock. “Want to ship out? There seems to be nothing left to do on this island. Your fluffy friend better come too.”
“Stop calling me names!”Ciela, Link’s “fluffy” friend (a fairy) yelled.
“All right, Twinkletoes.” the captain shouted back. Ciela’s eyes narrowed.
“Come on.” Link beckoned to her, and we all boarded the ship.
“All right, Link, you’ve got the map. Chart me a course!” Linebeck yelled.
“Link, you’re holding the map upside-down!” Ciela yelled. Link quickly turned the map over, and proceeded to draw a route to Mercay Island. Then he handed it to Linebeck.
“Mercay Island, huh? Are you going to the Temple of the Ocean King?” Linebeck asked.
“Yup,” Link replied.
“I see…” Linebeck said, “Well, we’re off! Don’t forget to man the cannon, Link!” he yelled, and ran over to the steering wheel. We started to move. Suddenly, the Spirit of Power jumped out.
“I think I’m getting seasick…” he said.
“Already? We’re barely even moving!” Ciela said.
“…Never mind,” the Spirit of Power said. Then, the Spirit of Wisdom jumped out.
“Are we going to Dee Ess Island?” he asked.
“Nope, we’re going to-PIRATES!” Link yelled, noticing three ships closing in on us. We had absolutely no protection, and Linebeck wasn’t helping by running around like a fool, crying “Help us! Someone help us!”
I saw a look on Link’s face, and knew that an idea had sparked.
“Linebeck, release your Totodile!” he yelled.
“How is that going to help when we’re being ambushed by-
Linebeck never got to finish his sentence, because at that moment, three cannonballs hit the ship at the same time.
“W-we’re going down!” Linebeck yelled.
“Release your Totodile!” Link shouted again.
“Fine!” Linebeck yelled back, and he grabbed a Poke Ball from his belt and threw it. “Go, Totodile!” he cried, and in a flash of red light, the Pokémon was out.
“Now grab on to it and jump off!” Link yelled.
“Are you crazy?!” Linebeck shouted.
“Just do it, Linebeck!” Link yelled, and he grabbed me, ran, and jumped off the ship. We were almost immediately submerged underwater. I knew exactly what to do, and I swam towards Mercay island. I looked up and saw the spirits following us above water. I looked behind us and saw that Linebeck wasn’t having much luck. He was grabbing onto his Totodile, and it was following us, but every few seconds it would chase after a fish, or a squid, or something like that. I yelled to it,
“Totodile! Concentrate!” Totodile’s head snapped up and it swam as fast as it could towards us. Eventually, it and Linebeck were in line with us. By now, we were at the dock of Mercay Island. Link and Linebeck climbed up onto the isle, and the spirits followed them. Linebeck threw out his Pokeball and returned his Totodile. Link bent down and helped me onto the island.
“Shoo, little green parrot!” Linebeck yelled. “Go find the last two sea charts!”
“Would you stop calling Link a parrot?” Ciela said to Linebeck, the tone of her voice telling us that she was annoyed with him.
“No way, Twinkletoes.” Linebeck responded.
“Hmph. Fine.” Ciela responded. “Come on, Link, let’s go find those sea charts!”
“All right, Ciela,” Link said, “Come on, Squirtle!” I jubilantly ran after him as he ran after Ciela. I was one happy Squirtle, in the care of a swordsman who was in the care of a fairy. Then, I realized where we were going. The Temple of the Ocean King. With its corridors patrolled by Phantoms and Darkrais.
I stopped in my tracks. Link turned around.
“What’s wrong, Squirtle?” he asked. I shook with fear to indicate that I was scared.
“Don’t worry. I won’t let anything happen to you. You’re safe with me.” Link said, picking me up and carrying me towards the temple.
When we arrived at the entrance, Link put me down.
“I know you’ve never been in here before, Squirtle.” he said. “Let me explain how it works.”
I nodded.
“As you know, the corridors of this temple are patrolled by Phantoms and Darkrais. You need to hit one in the back to temporarily stun them. While they’re stunned, you can push them into pits to kill them. Got all that?” he asked.
I nodded again.
“All right. If you see a Phantom or Darkrai, run to a safe zone. Those are the purple spots on the floor. Magic keeps the Phantoms out of them. Got that?” he asked.
I nodded yet again.
“All right then, let’s go in!” he said, and we ran into the temple. Link immediately walked out of the safe zone we were in, oblivious to a Phantom nearby. I followed him. Suddenly, the Phantom cried out. We were caught. Link ran to the left, where there was a safe zone. Link ran into it, but as soon as he stepped on it the floor where he was crumbled. All I could see was a bottomless pit, and it was too late to save Link. So, I jumped down after him.
It was a long fall, and it was pitch black. Eventually, I landed on something very soft. I almost jumped for joy when I heard Link’s voice.
“You okay, Squirtle? I- huh?” before he could finish, two lanterns floated into the room.
“Are those- Phantoms?” Link asked.
“No. My senses tell me that they are humans.
“Prepare for trouble.” a female voice yelled.
“And make it double.” a male voice shouted. The two lanterns were swung backwards to reveal a woman’s face, complete with makeup and long red hair, and a man’s face, with blue hair shorter than the woman’s, but not really that short. Suddenly, Ciela yelled,
“I found something!” and she flipped a switch. Immediately, the entire room was illuminated by a fluorescent light bulb, located at the top of the room.
“Hey! You ruined the effect!” a Meowth shouted.
“Never mind the motto, let’s get on to this.” The woman said.
“We’ve got the last two sea charts.” The man said.
“And you’ll have to beat us in a Pokémon battle to get them!” The Meowth said.
“Who are you, anyways?” Link asked.
“I’m Jessie.” the woman said,
“I’m James.” the man said,
“I’m Meowth.” the Meowth said.
Duh, I thought.
“And we’re Team Rocket-IN YOUR FACE! The three shouted simultaneously.
“Actually, no. You’re not in our face. You’re standing about five feet away from us.” Ciela replied.
“Whatever, let’s just battle.” Link said wearily. “Go, Squirtle. Use water gun.” he said, and I sent a blast of water at all three of them. They were instantly blasted into oblivion. While they were flying away, a faint “We’re blasting off again!” could be heard. Link walked over to the two treasure chests in the corner and opened them, obtaining two more sea charts. I happily followed him. Like I said before, I’m probably the happiest Squirtle there is.
Mystery Author #5 said:Title: When the Murkrow Caws.
The Murkrow flew past the morning’s sunrise cawing death, bringing death, warning death…
Ash, Misty, and Brock were walking through Eterna forest, the intense sun beating down on them through the leaves of the trees above.
“All I wanted was adventure away from home but now all I want is to be back in the Cerulean gym with my sisters,” Misty mumbled to herself.
“Is it too late to turn back?” Misty asked Brock.
“Well seeing how we’ve already gone so far… yes, it is too late to turn back,” Brock replied trying to be polite.
“It’s your fault for following us Misty,” Ash teased even though he felt like just stopping and lying on the floor from he unbearable heat as well as Misty. But they trudged on through the forest stepping on small twigs, avoiding thorny plants, and the occasional fallen tree. Finally they were all alone in the Eterna forest, and it was now dark, pitch black, the kind of dark where you can’t see 10 feet in front of you. At least an hour ago a strong gust of wind had blown away their map and now they were just trudging forward hoping that the end of this endless nightmare was near. Maybe it was Brock first or maybe Misty, but at the same time they both jumped back.
“What’s wrong guys? Not afraid of the dark are you?” jeered Ash.
“Th-There’s something out there,” stuttered Brock.
“S-So you saw it too?” stuttered Misty. Brock just nodded his head in agreement. Then a large flash happened and there was an explosion. As Ash tumbled back he smelled the scent of ashes causing him to blackout. Ash found himself all alone with Misty both of them scratched up and bleeding.
“Ow, what was that-“ Ash moaned.
“Wait, where’s Brock!” Misty screamed. The two franticly searched around them in the unforgiving darkness but being able to only barely see each other, they found nothing. They both struggled to get up from the cuts and bruises the explosion had given them. They walked through the darkness holding each other’s hand trying to fight back the overwhelming fear inside each of them. They now realized fear. It was like a cat trying to catch an injured mouse. It was pointless, hopeless for the poor mouse trying to escape. It was like they were already on a path steering them closer and closer to death. You got a feeling in the bottom of your stomach making you think this is your last moment left alive. You were done, finished, and being hunted by someone who never loses. As they walked on imagination created images, shadows, and frightful ideas in both of their heads. Their steps slowed to a terrified walk. Then they heard a sound.
“Kro! Kro! Murkrow! cawed a Murkrow flying high above the tree line creating a shadow that when you were scared enough looked like a giant skull. Death. Then from in front of them they hear screams of terror, pain, agony, torture, and things even the most frightening of words can’t describe. Ash and Misty both froze dead in their tracks with fear. It was like they were fighting a war with fear as they walked forward, but now, but now it was like fear and conquered them and they had absolutely no free will left at all. Thoughts rushed through the head as the screaming continued, and then they recognized the scream. All the color left their faces as they realized it was Brock’s. Finally the scream died down and finally it was silent. Deathly silent. Ash and Misty held each other for comfort and a way to calm down the fear as shadow circled them. Ash and Misty’s eyes followed the shadows as they circled them, hunting them. It was over and they knew it. They just didn’t know how to react. In fear Misty took off at a sprint forward screaming as hard as she ever could.
“Wait up Misty!” yelled Ash scared and terrified knowing that the last one left behind is always the next to go.
They sprinted through the forest batting away twigs and branches until they found something that made them both stop dead in their tracks. It was Brock. He was dead, bleeding heavily all over from large cuts that looked like bites. One of his arms was torn of his body as well as one of his legs. All around him were cobwebs and other marks that would’ve been fatal to anyone. He was so badly messed up you could hardly tell it was him. Misty started to cry.
“No!” yelled Ash starting to weep uncontrollably “, no it can’t be!
“He’s dead,” Misty said holding her breath.
The two just stood there all the fear turning into sadness and sorrow. But then as the realized one fact even more fear took over their bodies,
Misty said “,Ash I have a feeling that whatever those things were back there are going to do this to,” Misty gulped trying to ring down her fear “,us.” Misty waited for a response and was confused when she didn’t get a response. She turned around to see Ash’s mouth covered by webs and on his back were five strings of cobwebs leading into the darkness behind him. Then the strings pulled tight and Ash was dragged back away from Misty. Right at that moment a Murkrow flew overhead cawing again. After Misty heard sounds like muffled screams coming from the direction Ash had went. Then from the corner of her eye she saw Ash in pretty much the same state as Brock. Misty spun around looking all around her until a large swarm of Ariados jumped on her spitting webs and biting her. Misty screamed in pain and tried to run away but couldn’t because the webs held her in place. She screamed all through the forest as a Murkrow cawed from above…
“Eeew!!! I hate bugs!” yelled Misty from her seat “, we come to the movie theaters and we have to watch a horror movie with bugs?”
“Aw come on Misty, it’s just a movie.” Ash told her “, and didn’t you have fun making it?”
“Not in the slightest!” replied Misty “, I only did it because Bill asked us to.”
“Come on guys, let’s head back to the Pokemon Center okay?” Brock said trying to stop the soon to come argument.”
Misty and Ash agreed and the three exited the movie theater since it was getting dark. But as they walked into the distance a Murkrow perched on the movie theater flew up into the air and cawed.
