RE: The Humble WB Games Bundle (bonuses added)! + Weekly Sale: bitComposer Games
Whoo, I'm a little late on all this. Lots of stuff has happened, but first, new OP! As this thread has gone on I've been thinking that it's a bit isolating for newcomers; I talk in these posts as if everyone follows every single post, which is kinda alright if someone can still glean what I'm talking about, but
that is a bit hard to do when the OP lists my original HIB4 post has an introduction to Humble Bundle. So much has happened since then! So, yeah. Sorry if it's a bit wordy, I can't really do much else without serious serious planning. :X On to the news:
Starting with the small: So yeah, bonuses in WB Games Bundle were
not given to PWYW purchasers after all. I was a
little worried about saying as much last week, but I just couldn't find anything saying otherwise. Other people seemed a little confused, too, and went to Twitter to ask @humblesupport what the deal is. With that, we now have an official response on the BTA bonuses thing:

@humblesupport mine has not is this a problem or is it down to wb games I'm not upset just curious
@meathat Hey there, in order to get the bonus games you need to BTA. Sorry for the confusion!
@humblesupport will this be the case in the future or this bundle in particular
@meathat
This is applied to all future bundles!
And that, it seems, is that. I've responded, asking if this is a definite thing, what with HIB9 having this thing and Mobile Bundle 2 not, but this seems to be it.
Next: Eurogamer recently did a piece on Humble Bundle with stuff from John Graham, co-founder and COO of Humble Bundle (and the main voice in the videos). It's a nice read about the story of Humble, but perhaps the most interesting bit for adamant Bundlers is this:
Eurogamer said:
"We do believe in treating people well, and empowering them, and trusting them, and I don't think we could ever lose or deviate from that without imploding the whole company."
That's not to say the company won't be trying new things. Humble Bundle was built on experimentation, and, as indie games continue to grow in popularity, Graham is always thinking where that might take them, perhaps even onto consoles.
"Yeah, certainly," he says of the possibility. "What it comes down to is that where there's valuable digital content, Humble Bundle could be useful. One thing you'll find in any eco-system is that it'll only be able to promote so much awesome content at a time. I think there's always an opportunity to celebrate the stuff that might not be on the front page anymore. For me that's more of an opportunity on the console side."
:O
And last but certainly not least: The Humble Store!
So that's a thing now! Over the past year or so, Humble's been building on the Humble Widget as a way for developers to sell their games directly to their customers using Humble's well-built architecture. You put in your email address, select if the purchase is a gift, choose to give extra money to the developer (if they allow it), and check out with PayPal or Amazon. See
Braid and
Anodyne for examples. The email you get gives you a standard Humble URL, with standard DRM-free downloads (both direct and through BitTorrent) and applicable Steam keys. Heck, Anodyne's Widget even used to include
Desura keys, something Humble hasn't offered in bundles since late 2011.
So yeah, as developers are setting up their game for sale using the Widget, they now have an additional option "Please include in Humble Store". What does this do? Well, since I'm not a developer I couldn't tell you specifics, but presumably some magic would be done and that game would eventually show up here:
https://www.humblebundle.com/store
- That is the new Humble Store. It's got a fancy cart system with zooming pictures and animations galore.
- Each game listed has icons showing what platforms they support, whether they are redeemable on Steam, and whether they're DRM-free (I guess that's why Humble debuted that icon last week!).
- Soundtracks do not seem to be present at this time, unfortunately.
- Charity is still being supported, with a flat 10% of all purchases being divided up equally among five.
- Here's the fun part: In the style of seasonal Steam sales, Humble is currently doing a Debut Sale! Each day at 2 P.M. EST for an unknown period of days, a set of games and discounts on those games are added to the store. These discounts range from 33% off's on new-ish titles to 85% off on the venerable Alan Wake franchise or 0% in Batman's case. The games will stay there for the foreseeable future, as this is a store, but the discounts will expire the next day at 2 P.M. EST.
- Some of the games currently on the store are rather... interesting. Guild Wars 2, because why not?
- This store has introduced Humble's first-ever regional restrictions (well, aside from the toned down content in certain games in Germany, but that was more of a Steam thing): Guild Wars 2 and Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon are only available in North America, unfortunately.
- Speaking of Blood Dragon, I believe that marks Ubisoft's first partnership with Humble. Not their first partnership with indie bundles in general, mind you, that honor would go to Groupees with their ongoing BeMine X bundle that includes the original Call of Juarez.
- So, do you happen to remember a few months back when I said that the Humble Weekly Sale seemed to be Humble's answer to IndieGameStand, a site that offers one game on a PWYW sale every four days? Well yeah, some things have changed since then; the Weekly Sale has expanded beyond including just one game. But something along those lines has seemed to happen again: About a month or so ago, IndieGameStand launched their own store, with their own discounts. So, yeah, Humble seems to have answered IGS once again. :X
And that's about it for the Store. Since the deals aren't PWYW and therefore aren't extraordinarily better than what you'd find on Steam (and since Humble lists MSRPs, which is like, half my job
), I'm not going to cover it in-depth here, though I will mention if any other themed sales like this happen again ("Winter sale", "Valentine's Day sale", "St. Patrick's sale"? *shrug*).
With all that out of the way, let's get to the WB Games Bundle's bonuses! I said last week that these should be given out to early PWYW purchasers, but I was unfortunately wrong. Ah, well. These bonuses showed up on Tuesday for a brief second before being delayed a day to Wednesday, possibly to include helpful "Check out <game> on the Humble Store!" links.
- F.E.A.R.
- Batman: Arkham Origins - New Millennium Skins Pack
- No, the brand-new $50 base game is not included in the bundle. But you can buy it on the Humble Store, if you wish.
- Normally $5
- Guardians of Middle-earth
- This is apparently a bad port of a middling console game. Ah, well, bonuses are bonuses!
- Normally $20
- Includes Smaug’s Treasure DLC
- Review by CGRUndertow
- Let's Look At by NorthernLion
- Quick Look by GiantBomb
- Note that these videos are of the console version

- Normally $20
- This is a starter pack for a free-to-play MMO that is available on Mac
- Steam keys "will be available soon"
- Mortal Kombat Arcade Kollection
- Gotham City Impostors Professional Kit
The average is now at $4.71. All games are Steam and Windows-only unless noted otherwise (Lord of the Rings Online). No soundtracks are included. This bundle will end on Tuesday, November 19th, 2013, at 2 P.M. EST.
