Nintendo Clan Game review:
Kirby Superstar Ultra
Author: PokeChamp
Today, I am going to review Kirby Superstar Ultra, for the Nintendo DS.
This game boasts many ways to play. In fact, this game can keep you occupied for quite some time! The game can be played by a single player, however, you can also play with two players (two games and DS systems are required for this). Kirby Superstar Ultra has a slightly complicated control scheme, however, it is nothing that you can't get used to. In this game, Kirby must save Popstar from various different scenarios, varying from the simple Spring Breeze, to the difficult Milkyway Wishes. Kirby inhales evil, and can either shoot them out as stars to attack, or, if they have one, he can absorb their power, aiding him to attack. In this game, by pressing the "X" button, you can call upon your helper after you've absorbed his power. He'll help you fight against the many enemies of Popstar. Pressing the "X" button again turns the Helper into a power that you can gain absorb by inhaling it. This game has many options, and you can play the game in an endless manner of ways. Kirby is quite the gourmet, and through your adventure, you'll find food scattered around Popstar. This heals Kirby of some of his damage, and some foods heal more than others. You must use the various powers supplied in this game to solve puzzles and defeat enemies, and this game has many hidden secrets as well!
There are plenty of games you can play in Kirby Superstar Ultra. Here is a list of the main modes you can play:
Spring Breeze:
You must make your way through four stages to recover all of the stolen food from the villainous King Dedede. This game is for beginners, and is the first game available for play. Even the final boss of this game is easy!
Dyna Blade:
Harder than Spring Breeze. This is when the game really begins. Kirby sets out to defeat the monstrous bird, Dyna Blade, from destroying all of the crops. This game features a world map, and is home to many secrets! At the end of each level, you get to play a goal game.
The great Cave offensive:
Kirby falls into a pit, which leads to a cave. In order to get out Kirby must venture through the cave to escape. On the way, you must collect the 60 treasures scattered through the game. Every now and then, a save point comes up. Make sure to save your progress here!
Gourmet Race:
King Dedede challenges Kirby to see whose the hungriest gourmet out there! To beat the evil King at his own game, you must race him to the finish, while collecting food. You can even challenge yourself, and try to beat your best time! Also features a mode where you can play with your friends!
Revenge of Meta Knight:
Kirby infiltrates the flying battleship, the
Halberd to foil the evil plot of the masked Meta Knight. In this game, you are timed to beat the levels. Don't dolly around, or you'll lose a life!
Milkyway Wishes:
The sun and the moon are fighting! in order to stop their quarrel, you must travel through various planets to and summon a comet! In this game, you can't copy powers. Instead, you must gain powers through the use of copy essences deluxe. Use the best power for the situation. In the end, you must fight a great and terrible evil...
And if that wasn't enough for you, there are mini-games as well! Kirby Superstar Ultra proves to be one of the best time-occupiers out there!
After beating Milkyway Wishes, you will unlock two more game modes, as well as a theater and a sound tester. Overall, I give the game a 8/10.
