What are your thoughts on Garchomp/Altaria? I've heard people say it's going to be terrible; I've heard people say it's going to be the new BDIF. Clearly it has the built in search, but the Altarias have a pathetic 70 HP. I can see it going both ways. Also, any ideas for a better name than "Gartaria"? I'd rather call it Garchomp, IMO.

RE: Garchomp

Having tested it and all, it's very over-hyped. I think it will be 2nd (or be tied with) behind ZekEels with Raikou EX which destroys it. It's still a great deck though just not as much when Raikou gets set up.

As for the name, I like GarTaria. The only other names I've heard for the deck are Fluffychomp, Garchomp/Altaria and Garchomp.

RE: Garchomp

Call it Dragon Blade. I think Garchomp will be somewhere in Tier 1, probably closer to the bottom than the top.

RE: Garchomp

It'll definitely be good. There's no doubt about that. Where it is in Tier 1 will be seen in the next couple of weeks when Battle Roads start.

The deck is called Garchomp. Every other name sounds stupid IMO. FluffyChomp? lol.

RE: Garchomp

Altchomp.

Tier 1.5 is the lowest it'll possibly go, if only for sheer number of people playing it. If 10% of an event cuts and 95% of the field is playing it, it'll top regardless of how good it is. That said, Altchomp is definitely worthy of being at least Tier 2. It's good. Really good.

Ikr! Maybe FluffChomp... Kinda sounds like LuxChomp...

RE: Garchomp

It's not a bad deck, but I wouldn't put it at BDIF. I like the speed and consistency of using Gabite to set up quickly, but aside from Garchomp itself, everything is Catcher bait for Darkrai, Zekrom, Terrakion, and even Mewtwo with 4 energy takes out most of the deck. And though it can attack quickly, it's not too hard to take out Altaria and slow the deck down to the point that Garchomp does 40 damage to EXs with Eviolites. I do like the deck, though, and I know it'll have some good success through sheer consistency and fast attacks.

Also, I prefer AltChomp if anything, though I just call it Garchomp.

RE: Garchomp

I'm concerned about GARTARIA. Altaria's fragility is the weakness to this deck. If you don't get a quick start to disarm your opponents of Eels and Hydreigons early, you're toast. Sure, you can get them out without a problem with Dragon Call, but it's keeping them protected, because 70 HP is NOT good. This deck is still very good in regards to consistency and power. If you can continuously Super Rod KO'd Altarias and Swablus while crippling your opponent of his/her resources, (as mentioned), you should be in good shape. But it's just Altaria's HP... Long Cloak or Large Cloak or whatever it's called unfortunately doesn't help Altaria---it helps Eels, however (now that it can take a 90 damage hit from Darkrai or a 100 damage shot from Raikou). I feel that with the upcoming format, Raikou will become more popular to pick off Altarias, while Garchomps struggle to retaliate against Eels due to the Cloak and a lesser damage output. Only time will tell though.

RE: Garchomp

Chain Chomp.

Also, I like how quickly the deck sets up, and it's the most consistent deck we'll have next format no doubt. But without Altaria the deck gets much weaker and keeping them in play is no easy task.

^Let's at least contribute to the discussion meaningfully. OK? :p

Regardless, I changed the name of the thread.

Garchomp is Tier 1.5 at most. The deck plays so linearly (almost auto-pilot) and needs to have a great start to succeed.

:p I kind of wanted to remain neutral on my thread, be objective, but I can generate meaningful discussion. What are your thoughts on Terrakion with or without Exp. Share? Are cards like Large Cloak worth it in Garchomp. Will any competitive list run Mewtwo?

they're calling it fluffychomp...

I prefer GarTaria (I heard someone suggest guitar hero)

it should be top tier, but it fails hard if gabite isn't out on turn 2

I prefer Gartaria a lot too.

Let me add one to the stack...Garia? AriaChomp? AriaBlade? I dunno. (It's gotta have that "Aria" in it, you know?)

Topish tier. TopISH. ISH. Well, that's what I think, anyway.

I agree, Gartaria sounds like someone burping. I think it should be called battlegar. As for the deck i think this is where it will be in tier 1:
1st
Darkrai/hydreigon
2nd
Zekeels w/ Raikou EX and Tornadus EX
3rd
Klinklang w/ various EX's
4th
Garchomp/Altaria

the reason I say this is Garchomp/Altaria is a very consistent deck, but Altaria's Hp is terrible, and garchomp can be OHKO'ed any time if you have a built up Zekrom EX on your bench ready to go with strong volt. That is why i put 2 zekrom EX in my Zekeels deck post.

The problem with Garchomp is that since a lot of people are going to be playing it they're going to realize that Garchomps worst matchup, is Garchomp, having that Dragon weakness means if you play the mirror whoever gets set up first will win, no matter the circumstances, I think the deck will be a lot better when they hype buys down and less people play it.

From my testing, a good way to win the Garchomp mirror is just to swarm Altaria's. Gible can do you good.

That's my point though, Garchomp V Garchomp becomes a race of "Who can hit for weakness faster," and Because all the dragons in the set are weak to dragon, and nothing else [Seeing as in the tcg all Ice pokemon fall under water,] means that every dragon deck is just going to topple over each other at tournaments.
