BW/BW2 The Simple 5th Gen VG Questions and Answers Thread

RE: The Simple Questions and Answers Thread

In the Dream World do we get points for friend requests? I thought we got 30 points per request. I don't seem to get the 150 points per day or do we only get them when they accept the request? Thanks XD.:)

RE: The Simple Questions and Answers Thread

You get the 30 points when they accept your request, or when you accept their request.

RE: The Simple Questions and Answers Thread

What is weird though is when I make the first request I get 30 points for the first made request but nothing after that. I have gone out of the DW to check this so I know the first one I get 30 points but nothing after XD. Until I get accepted anyway.:)

EDIT: Is it possible to get 2 levels up if you get to 1,000 points or do you only get 1 level per day? I think the other day I got a thousand points but not sure because it is hard to keep track of the points I make each day and sometimes I loose count when keeping track. When will they have an amount per sync listed for that particular sync? If they did this it would be a lot easier. They should have a button on your house page on the left side that you can click to check the amount of points you get so you know how many points you have during the hour that you are in the DW. The have the accumulated points on My Page but we need the points made per sync somewhere on the page where the brown buttons are when you first enter the DW. The button should say "Points this Sync". This way we could click that and check them to see how far away from 500 we are XD.:)

RE: The Simple Questions and Answers Thread

I'm not sure, but I think you always get one level, kinda like the Pokewalker in the past. However, I haven't personally tested it and after all I haven't logged in the PGL for months, so things might have changed from what I knew.

RE: The Simple Questions and Answers Thread

Yeah same here XD. I do the DW almost every night but was not sure if it is possible. When you wake your Pokemon there is the "S" in parenthesis XD so I was wondering about that possibility XD.:)

Noob question about Ditto...

New member to Pokebeach and a year into Pokemon TCG. My daughter has loved it for years, so I found a league close and started taking her. Now, I can't stop myself from buying a pack every time I see them. I had the Plasma Freeze collection in a week from 2 boxes and hundreds of packs. No joke! Anyways good to find the Beach. I have probably a dumb question to you guys but what is Ditto's deal? How do you use him? I don't see it.

Unless it has the Imposter ability, or if you're using it to breed for eggs with good IVs, Ditto has very little use at all.

RE: The Simple Questions and Answers Thread

Ditto has a couple rolls it can play, but the main role involves Imposter, max investment in HP, and a choice scarf/life orb. Ditto copies all stats, boosts, EVs, IVs and moves of the target pokemon leaving only it's HP the same as per-transformation. This is Ditto's only viable competitive role (a revenge killer that copies a fully set-up sweeper's stats and tries to reverse the sweep by winning the speed tie) under the species clause (although full ditto tams exist, and can work if used better than the opponent uses their own team). In general, Ditto is slightly inferior to a regular team member since ditto's variability is undermined by the rigidity of the item it is given before the battle even starts and it's HP remains fairly low even when copying the stats of, say, Blissey.

RE: The Simple Questions and Answers Thread

I can't connect with friends via Wi-Fi on any of my games via Friend Code, though I used to be able to. They'll show up, but the connection always fails. I can still trade/battle via GTS/Random Match-Up, however, and rarely have any communication errors. Does anyone know why and exactly how this could be resolved?

Sounds like good ol' Error 86420. I got it too, don't worry. To fix it, I turned off my router's firewall. Try that.

Has your Wi-Fi recently been secured with WPA/WPA2? DS games won't function with it normally, but BW/BW2 will work, albeit with some oddities like that.

My router's Firewall is turned off (to my knowledge). I checked with my dad some time ago (when I was still having the problem). I'd say it's been over a year that my Wi-Fi has been doing this.

I figured something on the router had been changed, but my dad said he hadn't changed any of the settings since way back before my problems started.

I have the same problem with HeartGold. I'm still able to use the GTS, but can't connect via Friend Code.

If you're getting an error code when it fails to connect, could you please provide it?

Since you say you can connect to the GTS, chances are it's an error on your friend's part. Check with him/her to see if they can connect to the GTS.

I've actually been having that problem. I've tried following recommended steps, but for some reason it won't connect.

How exactly would you fix it?

It is indeed Error 86420. I highly doubt it is my friends, since multiple people who usually don't have that problem can't connect with me.

Ah, you wouldn't be able to connect with 4th Gen games at all if it were WPA.

Not really sure of a great fix, I have to manually swap my router over to WEP encryption. If you had a dual-band router you could probably pull off having one main connection and one connection with WEP, but I believe dual-band stuff is usually used to speed up the router in some way, so that'd probably disturb those around you. :X

BW and BW2 only connect to WPA security when being played on a DSi/DSi XL or 3DS/3DS XL. You cannot connect to WPA on a DS Phat or DS Lite.

Okay, I'm going with the assumption that you've tried everything from Nintendo's website (port forwarding, firewall editing, etc.). Let's work from there.
  1. Go to your Wi-Fi settings on your DS.
  2. Change the IP to a static IP
  3. Put 8.8.8.8 as your primary DNS and 8.8.4.4 as your secondary
  4. Test connection (should work)
  5. On your router, find and enable DMZ
  6. Put in the IP you entered on your DS
  7. Check connection with friend
If none of this works, god help you.

What does the static IP have to be? I tried to set it for an IP address that showed up on the router when I tried to connect, but it said that the IP was incorrect.

It varies from router to router. I believe you'll need to set up an IP for it in your router settings, but even that process varies with the router. I recommend using your favorite search engine to find out how to set up a static IP for your specific router's model number (usually on the side). Then again, he may have just meant to switch the DNS settings from auto-obtain to manual (since this can be done without setting a manual IP). I have experience with several router settings remotely similar to what this sounds like, but I have never had a problem quite like this, so I'm afraid I can't be of more specific help.
