The "What a Ripoff" Thread

Have you ever bought something that wasn't worth it? Did you ever see something that was way too expensive for what it was worth? Anything that broke very quickly? Discuss these and other ripoffs here to warn other Pokebeach Members about their dangers.

I was at a store in florida with my cousins and saw some pokemon cards on the shelf and was ecstatic, there were maybe 6-10 packs of stormfront and 2 or 3 Great encounters. The guy was charging $6 for 1 and $9 for 2, i thought this was a ripoff and i left

I saw an eeveelutions deckbox on ebay for 100 dollars, then I saw Dmaster got it for 10 :/

Tons of people on ebay sell WC Luxray Xs for a bit less than regular prize. NOOBS

5 dollars for a night teleporter? Heck no.

A prime for two packs???

I bought the last platinum arceus pack on the rack at my local Walmart, hoping for an arceus card. All I got was commons and a Bronzong reverse holo! I was so mad! >=(

This wasn't really a buy but I sold my Gengar X to my friend for $15.
Instead I agreed to let him buy me 3 Triumphant Packs and give me $2.50 cash. When I got the packs I felt like I had gotten ripped because the packs only had literal "crud". The worth of the cards from the pack were nowhere near the price of the Gengar X. I was sad but it was my own mistake for letting him buy them.

(Hopefully close to on-topic)

I got (Kinda ripped) on a Samsung Galaxy Tab. Well, not ripped but it broke after the second day i got it. Refused to open any app. Returned it and got an alienware. Happy ending :D

I got an old Club Penguin from my parents 1-2 years ago and I finished in in 2-3 days. -.- I didn't know that I'd be so good at it. My parents paid $30 for it.

@ Emerald Holds No Hope, in my first post, I never said ANYTHING about Pokemon. I told no one to discuss it, and they're mainly talking about ripoffs they got from Pokemon.

Sonic Unleashed and Rayman Raving Rabids TV Party. I've never wasted my money on worse video games in a long time

I started playing Pokemon TCG. <---- Biggest rip off ever.

Oooh that and I traded my base charizard for a rhydon in kindergarten :(

Sonic Unleashed was fine, now Sonic & the Black Knight, that's a different story....

It's ok for pokemon to be mentioned here as long as the topic isn't simply about pokemon.

went to fiji

First went to the markets (soooo cheap) got a massive replica of their weapons in their cannibal days from $140 down to $40.
Anyway we didn't want to buy anything yet and decided to see what else.
Went into a proper shop and had to do all this spiritual stuff as it was their tradition.
After all that we felt bad for not buying anything so we looked around the shop and saw the same thing. We said we liked it and they started to engrave our names into it so we had little choice. However my whole family and myself were given complimentary necklaces so that was nice. However the weapon cost us about $250

@ The Figi Post.

Same thing happened to me when I went to a spritiual shop in Canada near the Niagra Falls. Although we refused and threatened to call the police. They soon backed off.

Biggest rip off was most likely my old laptop, $400 dollars and it broke 3 days later :l

In the United States (and I believe most other modern countries), you do not need to pay for water from restaurants. It's considered a basic human need. However, some places will instead charge you for the cup, or the ice they put in it. Once a place tried to pull this on me, so I asked if I could just hold my mouth under their sink and drink that way. They gave it to me for free.

Similarly, bottled water. Drink from the tap or if the water quality's bad buy a purifier, bottled water is ridiculous.

Or get your water from restaurants.

Fake Beyblades. Very common, please watch for them, and Beyblades and cards way more than they are worth on ebay. Also, watch for the Wii ripoff, Vii, on ebay.
