RE: Yu-Gi-Oh! - Round 1 pairings up!

"Hieratic Sun Dragon Overlord of Heliopolis"

Heck yah! Chaos Dragon here I go! Photons would be a good idea as well.

What rarity will "Hieratic Sun Dragon Overlord of Heliopolis" be by chance? A super rare like the rest?

RE: Yu-Gi-Oh! - Round 1 pairings up!

FEED THE MASSES

These look like some really great tins. Ninja Grandmaster and Sun Dragon will make for some cool new additions, and I've always wanted to try out "Ninjas" too.

Nope. It's gonna be the cover card of the wave 2 tins along with Ninja Grandmaster Hanzo. Doesn't make much sense considering it's already a secret rare, but hey, cheaper Sun Dragon Overlord. Not complaining here.

Now the real question here is why Konami is reprinting such good cards so early. Even though Return of the Duelist is right around the corner, Order of Chaos and Galactic Overload aren't even 6 months old yet (outside of Japan). I find it curious as to why they're reprinting Zenmaines, Wind-Up Rabbit (yes, I know these were in Photon Shockwave), Dolkka, and Laggia so early after their release. Not to say something like this hasn't happened before, but seeing reprints of cards that have a huge impact on the metagame about a month and a half before the September banlist--the tins are coming out a bit more than 2 weeks before September starts--makes me fail to see how or why they're going to be crippled in the September 2012 list, but the fact that they're shoving all these cards in a $20 package makes me think that, based on patterns in the past, makes crippling extremely likely.

These are...odd tins, to say the least. Not like I'm honestly complaining, I'm just getting the Excalibur tin for the Zenmaines and Excalibur.

RE: Yu-Gi-Oh! - Round 1 pairings up!

Well, I hate to double post and bump the thread so early, but the entirety of Abyss Rising has been revealed. You can see and read translations of every card in the link below.

http://yugioh.wikia.com/wiki/Abyss_Rising

My thoughts?
The set itself is a huge love letter to anybody who's ever played a Water deck and has had fun with it (especially since it has modern counterparts of a lot of popular Water monsters in the past, such as Giga Gagagigo and Abyss Soldier). It modernizes the concept of the Water deck, and with the Atlanteans in the new structure deck, it definitely looks like Water decks are going to be competitive. But aside from those, I'll be posting a few specific cards that I think are going to have impact on the metagame.

Bull Blader
Though it's not as spammable as Grand Mole, it's searchable by Reinforcement of the Army. This card kills off anything that it attacks, so you can ram it into a Five Headed Dragon and not worry about anything.

Ice Spirit God - Moulin Glace
A Water counterpart to the Earth boss monster released in the last set, Earth Spirit God - Gran Soil. Though arguably not as good, any metagame decks that use a lot of Water monsters can easily splash this in for quick and easy card advantage and a 2800 ATK beater.

One-Eyed Skill Gainer
Though a bit difficult to get out and pretty situational, games can be turned around with this card, especially if you copy the name and effect of your opponent's Wind-Up Zenmaines. You'll have a 2500/2600 Zenmaines, essentially.

Gagaga Gunman
The first Xyz monster in the Gagaga archetype, and a pretty good one at that. Simply by detaching an Xyz material, it can destroy anything with less than 3000 ATK by battle or inflict burn damage to your opponent, depending on its battle position. Very splashable rank 4, possibly the most splashable rank 4 since Number 39: Utopia.

Forbidden Garment
The Forbidden series of cards is known for being very versatile, and this one is no exception. You target a monster, and that target loses 600 ATK, but until the end of the turn, it cannot be targeted or destroyed by other card effects. That is HUGE. Not only can you use it defensively, but it can also be used extremely offensively as well. Though you can obviously lower something's ATK by 600 for that one final push, but you can also use it on your own monsters offensively, especially with Black Rose Dragon and Jurrac Meteor (this isn't seen often, but it makes Meteor pretty viable). What's even better is that this card is a quick play spell card, so it can basically be used at almost ANY time during the duel. Though it might not have the niche that Forbidden Lance has, Forbidden Garment will indeed see play.

Memory of a Rival
Situational, but this card makes it easy to steal monsters. Let's say your opponent uses Rescue Rabbit to get out 2 Sabersaurus. Wanting to deal more damage, they decide to attack first, then Xyz in main phase 2. After one attacks, activate this to banish it and take control of it on the next turn.

Cashback
Haha, Solemn Judgment and Warning? What the heck are THOSE cards?

Retaliation
Being able to negate and use a card of the same name as the negated card can really turn a game around, especially if you give yourself access to a card such as Dark Hole or Monster Reborn.

Any thoughts on this set?

RE: Yu-Gi-Oh! - Round 1 pairings up!

Those are some very interesting cards, especially Cashback, Heroic cards, and the WATER-oriented monsters you mentioned before. Playing with Abyss Soldier, Diva, and the upcoming WATER decks sounds like a lot of fun.

RE: Yu-Gi-Oh! - Round 1 pairings up!

The Forbidden Garment link isn't working right now. You'll need to tell me the effect later.

Also, Dark Bribe > Cashback, but Retaliation actually looks really good.

I think Cashback might see some side deck play, in all honesty. It's great against the Solemn Brigade, but other than that I can't think of any thing else that it might work against, other than maybe Psychics or A Hero Lives decks. It will be interesting to see how it will play out in the meta.

RE: Yu-Gi-Oh! - Round 1 pairings up!

but other than that I can't think of any thing else that it might work against, other than maybe Psychics
I HATE YOU ;_; But yeah, it could work great in the Side Deck.

And, in all honesty, the only cards I have to pay for are Overdrive Teleporter or Thought Ruler Archfiend, the former of which gets messed up by Effect Veiler anyway. But still, whenever my Overdrive gets negated, it is a bad day for me.

RE: Yu-Gi-Oh! - Round 1 pairings up!

What about Mind Master?
Oh, right, that card was banned.

I've come to the conclusion that Fishborg Planter is honestly quite incredible in Sea Lancer decks. It mills your Frogs to get back with Ronintoadin to basically +2 almost every turn...almost everything in a Frog deck needs to be in the graveyard (or banished in Sea Lancers, but Ronintoadin takes care of that) for the deck to work properly, and Planter does just that.

EDIT: Fishborg Planter plus Hanged Man of Prophecy. Made even better with Empress of Prophecy being able to rearrange your deck.

RE: Yu-Gi-Oh! - Round 1 pairings up!

ShadowLugia indirectly gave me a good idea:

The next tournament we need to have needs to ban the Extra Deck, except for Fusion Monsters. So basically no Synchro, no Xyz tournament.

yea/nay

RE: Yu-Gi-Oh! - Round 1 pairings up!

I somehow knew that you wanted to do a tournament. :p

I think that a no Synchro/XYZ tourney would be really fun, as long as everyone didn't spam Dragons and Inzektors. If we do something like that, then I'd like to see some very creative decks.

RE: Yu-Gi-Oh! - Round 1 pairings up!

Oh, I already know what I'm running.

RE: Yu-Gi-Oh! - Round 1 pairings up!

...Madolches require an extra deck. ;_;

I'd be willing to do such a tourney. But I think a few archetypes would be "overpowered" in a fusion-only format, like Gem-Knights. Then again, if everybody has access to these "overpowered" decks, I don't see the problem, really...

RE: Yu-Gi-Oh! - Round 1 pairings up!

Yeah, that kinda refers to what I said. Things like HERO decks would be nearly unstoppable. But I suppose that's what a Side Deck is for. >:3

If anyone is interested, make sure to speak up. No use in having a tournament if nobody wants to play.

RE: Yu-Gi-Oh! - Round 1 pairings up!

A lot of decks are virtually untouched by the rules set for this tourney...so I flat-out suggest to have no extra deck at all. Not even fusions. You can't have any deck made for such a tourney and say "Oh, I'll just put in a single E-Hero, 3 Super Polys, and each of the Omni Hero Fusion monsters" and call it a day, that takes no thought process whatsoever.

RE: Yu-Gi-Oh! - Round 1 pairings up!

That sounds even better, quite honestly. And oh my god, I just thought of the perfect deck to run. I haven't used this bad boy since I was around 12 years old, haha. I hope we can get this tournament running soon.

RE: Yu-Gi-Oh! - Round 1 pairings up!

I'd also prefer it to be fusion-less, but I'd play with extra decks banned or synchros+xyzs banned, either is fine with me. Some stuff is worrying however like Chaos Dragon and Inzektors, 2 top tier decks anyway, that are barely affected by this (if at all).

RE: Yu-Gi-Oh! - Round 1 pairings up!

I wouldn't want to be a jerk and just ban those decks outright, but I think most people here would want to just have a fun tournament anyways and use less broken decks. Hopefully. The deck I'm planning on using is nowhere near competitive, but I just want to play it for fun. And to see your reactions.

Inzektors use the extra deck, though. They can easily pop 2 with Dragonfly and Hornet and go into Zenmaines or something to ensure they'll have SOMETHING on the field the next turn.
