New? No one said new. Standard format cards? Yes. Scalpers wouldn’t waste their time or money on special art cards that are not the standard format… and neither would you.

Yes, they absolutely would. The cards aren't expensive because they're standard legal. They're expensive because all the "Investors" don't want to miss out on the new Moonbreon.

And I do spend money on cards not in the standard format, why wouldn't people? That's why Evolving Skies and Fusion Strike were hit so hard last year.

And scalpers went hard on celebrations when that released, not because of the standard legal cards.

The playability of the cards is irrelevant to the value of the sealed product or individual cards. Maybe a few people who play max rarity buy expensive cards, but the real driver of the price is “investors” and an influx of new collectors. Players are not buying sealed product. The cards they buy are very inexpensive.
