US Nationals 2012

Klingklang EX won Nats! I was hoping zeels would do it :( oh well at least it was apparently a close game....

It's funny how a stage 2 deck owned a basic filled format :p

Ty wins?! I met that kid a looooong time ago. Legit. Did you really Nigel? Yeah you definitely have bragging rights.

Wait...really? Klingklang won? That's...wow.

LOL Klingklang just won, who expected that?

As long as it's not darkrai, I'm happy :p

According to tweets that I've been reading, time was called in the third game and he top decked a kilngklang and used it's attack ftw.....

Yup, the Eel player had nothing in his hand and a Smeargle active. He used Klinklang's Gear Grind to flip one heads after time was called for game. Time got called basically as soon as the game started.

^ O.O I thought I heard his name somewhere, at least you lost to the guy who won...

I'm still in shock, he used kyogre EX in his deck I think :/

He used Kyogre EX to win game 2, not game 3.

it's still impressive :p

up to now I've seen kyogre EX as 2 easy prizes vs. zeels, apparently that's not always the case.... (seriously. Many people, me included saw it as the worst EX, and it's in the winning nats deck...)

What he did was catcher a heavy retreater and snipe out the Eels (that's how he won Game 2 against me). He 2-0'd me, he knows how to play that deck extremely well!

Klinklang won...

Geez. This is quite a thing. I can barely understand how the deck works and it wins Nats.

Of course i couldn't understand Megazone either so no surprise.

IAN ROBB WINS!!! (juniors norcal) and JASON MARTINEZ SECOND (seniors socal) HOORAY FOR CALIFORNIA!

So here is what the winner's circle looks like:
Juniors: Ian Robb with Hammertime
Seniors: Ty Wheeler with Terrakion/Mewtwo
Masters: John Roberts with Klinklang/ EXs

...still no word on UK nationals :(

but yay, something unexpected won. I wonder how it will do vs the new HydRai decks. A lack of rainbow energy won't do it any favors.

Hopefully he can replicate his success at worlds

I'm also curious if anyone has the numbers in terms of VGC attendance for UK Nationals. I could bother the PTO since I know who it is, but I'd rather let him get a couple days to relax.

Wow there's no word? The tournament should be long over i think.

no, wait, I found a single post on pokegym

apparently, the top 4 was eels w/terrakion, mismagus/vileplume, vanilluxe and CMT.

the seniors finished with tetrakion and turbo-darkrai

at least we have variety

Oh ok. So in the UK and the US we have a lot of variety which is... a bit odd. But cool.

Also seniors UK was won by EELS terrakion not quadbulls.

EDIT Wait that's strange... Ian Robb is a player in my area and he looks like that but the site says he's from Rhode Island... did he move or something?

Ian now lives in the East Coast but he did participate this year in several battle roads, cities, and prereleases in the NorCal circuit. I sat beside Ian and his dad during the Next Destinies prerelease in GK. I remember Ian made top cut 2 in the Elk Grove cities. Ian was also in Modesto and Concord Cities. Ian is a friendly and likeable kid who loves playing the pokemon card game.

Congrats Ian!!!

Anyway i'm interested in ty wheeler's copy of the mewtwo/terrakion rush that is doing so well in Japan right now. I actually thought about building a similar deck in May but dropped the concept because i'm poor...
