I think that while this may be premature, that dosent make Barack Obama any less deserving...he's one of the ONLY world leaders I've seen to even make peace and nuclear arms reduction a goal in his administration.
He made it a goal, not deserving of a Nobel Peace Prize. Yes, it's a good goal, but not worth a Nobel Peace prize, it's just a goal.
I thought that the speech he directed towards the Muslim World in Egypt was very well done and made me hopeful for a better relations in that region, not only between countries in that region, but between that region and the rest of the world.
He is a very good public speaker, I have to admit. But a speech, that just again doesn't make it worth it. Nobel Peace Prize were given to the greatest thinkers in all of history, and Barrack Obama is good with speech, but that doesn't make it worth it. The speech was well done, but I wouldn't call it groundbreaking.
As the article mentions (I don't know how many of you have read it), he also did many things to try and reduce nuclear arms. He has handled North Korea's nuclear situation well so far in my opinion, as well as the recent Iran nuclear testing.
The main point of giving Obama the NPP is to commend the fact that he's really trying to make things better here...if anyone in the world can do it, I think he can. But seriously guys, on top of EVERYTHING he's been juggling so far...the two wars, the economy/bailout, the national health care debate, the education initiatives he has tried to start, and the fact that we're in the largest deficit in US History really tells something about this guy...he's got his plate full and is adding more to make an impact in the short time he has to make a difference...while I think he's trying to do too much, I commend his actions so far and think he is more than deserving of this award for his work so far in world diplomacy and nuclear reduction policies, regardless of what he does from now on.
Do, or Do not, there is no try. When I say I live by that a lot of you are probably going to laugh at me, but that's a philosophy I believe in. He's trying, but he could fail utterly at the end of his term. It wouldn't be right for the Nobel Peace Prize committee to say "good job, you tried, here take more fame and a million bucks, do you want a hug?" Dramatization of course, but Obama could turn out to be a huge failure, he could become stupid, un-realistic, or anything within the next three years. He has a shot, but thats about it right now. Napoleon Bonaparte was seen as a great leader and exactly what France needed back then, but towards the end he was just stupid, and was his own downfall. How do we know that won't happen to Obama? We don't, at the end of his term if he was great, give him a Nobel Peace prize, I'm all for that. Now, now it's just popularity.
