Venusaur = Grass/Poison
Torterra = Grass/Ground

If Venu is Poison too then it gains weakness against Tort's Ground typing ( Tort = 1 pt. ). But Ground is weak against Grass ( Venu = 1 pt. ). And Grass itself is weak against Grass ( both = 1 pt. ). Grass is also weak against Poison ( Venu = 1 pt. )
....so....
Torterra - 2 pts.
Venusaur - 3 pts.
*Venusaur won  >.< ( let's just all wish Torterra recieves Fire Blast the next generation,...that's when Venusaur falls..hhaha )

...Anyway, I think Grass typing alone can beat Grass/Ground so...If Tort were to face Mega, then Torterra loses..( thats what i think )

Poisen is not very effective to Ground, so Torterra +1 point

I think Torterra does look more powerful and do have great stats but Torterra is also a ground type so it is a Grass/Ground hybrid which may give it a disadvantage against a Grass/Poison hybrid like Venesaur. I still don't understand why 'Grass' was picked as the word to describe those plant-like nature pokemons. I think it would be a matter of whether which particular Torterra and Venesaur is battling which would decide who wins. Generally, I think they're pretty much well matched.

yes..u are right..plus,torterra is smaller than venusaur is..

Can torterra learn stun spore, sleep powder, or posion powder? Nope. Combined with leech seed, venasaur can be a wall (as well as with giga drain).

^no it can learn that attacks but the attacks it can learn are more usefull...i guess..

Venasaur all the way. What you guys are failing to contemplate is that Bulbasaur is Pokemon numero uno. The first pokemon in a long list of slowly creativity degrading monsters. Venasaur is, and will always be, the first Pokemon I EVER obtained. Torterra, sure, it's a bid earth/tree dino thingy but Venasaur is the one and only monster.

Torterra is bigger than venusaur.anyways,they both have good and bad points:
TORTERRA
GOOD:
-earthquake and wood hammer can be leathul
-It only has 2 weaknesses
-it is powerful yet can endure alot too
BAD:
-very slow
-not many status inflicting moves so usually relys on pure power
VENUSAUR
GOOD:
-good all round
-poison powder sleep powder and leech life
BAD:
-not majorly strong in any aspect,though this isn't that bad
-Nothing to counter weaknesses such as flying

oooh,tough choice,let me have a think...

Assuming both Pokémon are their standard builds, "Forterra" and Venusaur being a disabler, Torterra would probably win in a straight out fight; though luck will play a huge factor in deciding the outcome. Torterra will obviously throw up Light Screen first turn, rendering Sludge Bomb near useless, and use Swords Dance 'til Earthquake could finish the battle. However, if Sludge Bomb manages to poison Torterra within the first two turns, Venusaur would be able to throw Synthesis in between attacks to close the advantage gap.

As Papi/Manny mentioned though, Venusaur could learn Sleep Powder and Leech Seed. Between the two, Venusaur will be of far greater use than Torterra will ever be. Being slower than a snail, and being quadruply vulnerable to Ice-based attacks in a Garchomp-phobic environment, really does Torterra no justice.

On a personal level, I prefer Venusaur; it's tied with Weavile as being my favorite Pokémon.
