RE: Want to be an Expert?

I've been playing pokemon since i was 7 years old and have never stopped loving pokemon. i have been the TCGplayer.com pokemon wifi champion for over a year now and still remain undefeated. i was one of the first people to fully complete their national pokedex without cheating or hacking. i'ved helped many people create teams, given them advice, and taught them all the tricks i knew about playing pokemon on wifi. this is why i believe i should be and "expert".

RE: Want to be an Expert?

Well, I may as well give this a shot.

Where to begin? Well, I've been with Pokemon since the beginning, although it wasn't until the R/S/E era that I discovered the likes of EVs and IVs and became interested in competative battling. Most of what I knew then was simply from what I'd read on various competative sites, such as Smogon, and I had little actual battle experience. Diamond and Pearl changed that. With Wifi I began to learn and experience the Pokemon metagame firsthand. When I got my hands on a webcam my playing began to improve as I posted my matches for the world to see, criticize, and enjoy. I became used to trying to play to the best of my abilities, as anything less would be a misrepresentation of me.

I've been a member of various Pokemon battling communities, starting at Pojo, going to Marriland, and eventually migrating to Smogon. Sadly, I haven't won any significant tournaments, nor am I a that common of a name amongst any of the forums I frequent, and although I applied for the Marriland MCP I apparantly didn't impress them enough to take part in it. I still hold that it was their loss. It's not the best track record in the world but I still feel I have more than enough skill and strategic knowledge to make use of it in this program. If you need any proof of my battling skill I can confidently say that my YouTube videos show more than enough that I know what I'm doing.

That's it for my personal history. Why do I think I can do this? Well, up to now my experience has been entirely self-interested, for me and my battling growth. I want to do more than that now. I don't just want to be the one reading moveset analyses, I want to be writing them. I'm very open minded when it comes to Pokemon movesets, meaning I'm more than willing to look beyond the standard. Most of my battling experience is from Wifi battles, so that's my area of expertise. I also enjoy a good debate, and I have no problem when it comes to speaking my mind in a civil manner. I'm also somewhat of a perfectionist, so for a project like this that trait could come in handy, mostly in the sense that I am very particular about proper grammar.

What seperates me from the rest is my honesty. If I think a set is bad or could be improved I will say so. If something is overlooked or inaccurate, I will point it out. If I have to defend an idea that I believe is good that the majority scoffs at, I will gladly do so. It's my hope that if chosen I can make use of this to truly be of help to others.

I have played every Pokemon Game, Red, Blue, Yellow, Silver, Gold, Crystal, Ruy, Saphire, Emerald, Colloseum, Dark Storm, Stadium, Stadium 2 and now Diamond and Pearl I played some online matches, too ^^

I'll just list our my credentials to make it easier to read:

- Nearly 2 years of experience in 1vs1 and 2vs2 Battling but primarily 2vs2.

- Member and current co-owner of a team centralized on the Doubles format (Team Twilight)

- Competitively, I have spent most all of my time on the battling simulator called "Netbattle"

- I would play Doubles with an intense passion stronger than the light given off by 10 thousand Suns but for the time being, I lack a simulator that supports 2vs2 battling

- I (as well as other members of Team Twilight) have worked on the development of 2vs2 team including articles and guides

As far as my abilities and skills go, personally I cannot vouch for myself (e.g. "I am a great Battler, I win a lot, etc."). You will have to contact current members of Team Twilight to hear what they have to say about my Double battling skills and abilities. Hope there's an opening for a Doubles Expert. ;]

ok i´ll give it a shot:

I´ve played this game ever since RBY was released...never missed one game, that means i´ve played every pokemon game (battle related) there is... and i plan on keep doing it. i joined competitive just before D/P was out, although i used to breed natures and EV train back on the RSE era, I never bred for IV´s wich is like the bread and butter of competitive. i research on new movesets for pokemon, i never settle on those movesets that makes OUs OU, i always think outside the box... i run many calcs to be sure i´m not screwing an EV set... and about the battling skills, i believe i have my own... i´ve battled many people... and while i can´t say i´ve battled the best... i do have battled very good Trainers... i´ve won and lose like everyone else... i try to always come with a new idea so the game never turns boring. I think of me not as an Expert, because there´s tons of things i believe i still have to learn... but i do believe i have the knowledge enough to be one of them...

Congratulations to the select few who got to be chosen. :D

dmaster out.

hmmm, I dont think this is a good idea, It might lower peoples self-esteem like were not 'good' enough, but ehh Ill give it a shot. ehh well, I dot play shoddy. I think its for noobs who are too lazy to play the real game. I dont EV/IV train but I am acually very good without it....Ive been playing since I can remember*thinks* I think my first game was blue or a borrowed blue I dunno. I was 3 but the rest is history. Ive played every generation even though I was late for second:p 10 years later I have only been in 2 torney and I got second at one(O.K blizzerd missed twice and the salamance was haxed.:p)
and since PBR wasnt working at gamestop it ended in rock paper siccors and I got 4th :D

Resently like in 07 Ive been thinking more competitivly though I still dont ev train.(I think it takes fun out of it.) I OWN my friend all the time. my best friend is my rival. Im getting him better but hes still in the dragon state of mind. Anyway, I am an awesome non- Ev/IV trainer. I preety much destroy anyone that doesnt special train. My blissey once defeated a giratina a heatran dialga and torterra if I didnt have to go to band next.

what have I done for this site...well I ...I made team galactic. the old and the best one. nothing else really big. As for the title ehh dont care that much I know Im not the best I know Im not the worst, there are plenty of people who diserve it more then me. Im just in pokemon for the fun and to win but mostly fun:D

I have a question though. what do you do if you get the job?

Okay, so here it goes.

Game History~
I've been playing the game since Pokemon Yellow and the more "arcade" versions of games. I started play competivley in R/S/E, when I first got into EVs. Personally, I am secluded and only get to play once or twice a month, every three or so monts, so I didn't worry about IV breeding. Just Evs and Natures. Ever since then I've been playing and probably will never stop. I constantly play on Shoddy as an alternative for lack of motive to IV breed, (and lakc of WiFi), and test many different ideas. I'll test out Pokemon from some tiers in other tiers, new Moveset/ev spreads or team combinations to see if they have potential and moniter problems that the Pokemon/team seems to have and try to alter it to fit. I can play effectivley in 6v6 or 3v3 style, along with Doubles (although I haven't put effort into it for a long time as there is no Double Shoddy =o). Probably my best ability at playing/testing is different leads, such as AttackSteel, MixJask, BandPersian and ScarfScizor. I find that I really lack at making a decent wish passer, despite the obvious blissey and vaporeon working, I always manage to get them KOed before they can pass the wish, or am forced to protect alot. Although I'm trying to get better with that.

Records & Touraments:
I was at one point informed of being in the top 100 on shoddy, but a few mishaps with misclikcs and terribad new lead ideas sent me down to a pretty low level. As far as tournaments go, I've won 3 DS tournaments, got second 6 times and top 4 another 12 times. All these being held at local card game events with skill level ranging from noob to max IV breeder. In my 3 wins, I played against the higher range of trainers, while in most of my top 4s and lowers were mass amount of crit/para/freeze/QUICK CLAW hax.

Reason for Applying:
I feel that I wouldn't do half-bad in the position, and would like to contribute to the site that endures all. I have also noticed a lack of anything on the front page (totally understandable) and would like to add something to it. I feel we could use with some game related reviews, and with my interest in the cards falling away I figure this would be something good to keep me busy while I save money for my electric guitar. I'm a pretty good battler and would definatley have some time over the summer to put quite alot of effort into the cause. I hate just using the standard OU sets, and love working on moving up some BL pokemon. Haven't done alot for this site. Intense tiers discussion, occasional RMT, ex-member of team twilight, one warstory. However, I've been on awhile, and this is one of the few sites I don't plan on leaving any time soon.

Congrats to those chosen! Figure this is good for when a position opens up though =)

Well, Ben reccomended me to check this thread out and apply, and I am sure that if picked, I would be a great resource to all others here, and that I would be able to help make the "reviews" (I think analyae is more appropriate, but w/e) accurate and very useful. Granted, this may be my second (or third, maybe??) post here, but Pulse could attest to my knowledge and battling skills, and Kevin Garrett to the latter. Anyways, to make a long story short, here's a similar "application" that I posted in a different forum (where I was hated upon along with Ben):

Code:
Forum Name: [.bam]

How long you have you been battling: Ever since Diamond/Pearl came out - I became interested in competitive battling about this time a year ago

Why do you deserve the job: I'll admit - I may not seem the best suited for a position as a staffy here, especially since this is my first post at Marriland and nobody really knows me. I ask, however, that you don't judge on your first glance, and that you'll actually take time to look at my posts at other forums, my trade thread, and that you will accept reccomendations and observations from other members here that know me.

My name at Smogon is BAM_UR_DEAD, and although I am not really well known, I am a very active poster throughout most of the boards, and as soon as I began battling competitively, I quickly advanced through the ranks, so to say. I am a continous learner (something I realize when I look at one of my posts from a few months ago and say "wow, what was I thinking?) and I keep on top of the metagame, adapting whatever team I am using (out of my hundred+ trades and the 25+ breeds/SRs I have) to the needs required.

One of my passions about competitve battling is the mind games and theorycraft involved in it. I've have had many-hour long conversations with friends from Smogon about how teams are best built, how playing conservatively and sensically beats out prediction, why certain Pokemon are in their respective tiers, why is "x" EV spread/moveset/etc. better than another, and other similar items. I have written articles at NSider2, posted my thoughts on Pokemon analyae at the Analysis Workshop at Smogon, rated teams on multiple websites, and have posted several warstories.

I think I would be a great addition to the team because of my knowledge, my battle experience, and my ability to think (yes that is actually important).

Pulse (his nick may be different here as well)

What seperates you from the rest: I am only able to play WiFi, as Shoddy does not work on my computer. Therefore, I am able to specialize on one area, an area which I have gotten very good at. My win/loss record exceeds 120/30, and the majority of those battles are against experienced and top-notch battlers at Smogon. If you look at my trade thread, you will see that I obviously put the time and effort to get good Pokemon - why would I not do the same in battling, which is where all that effort is directed?

Contact Information: I can be contacted here under my username, at Smogon or Nsider2 (under the username BAM_UR_DEAD), or at AIM and MSN (lvclimbingbum and [email protected] respectively).

I may not be so good with IV's and all that stuff, but not bad with EV's. I have played every single pokemon game for the Gameboy/DS (excluding Japanese game that are not out in English, if any) so far. I have played Red, Blue, Yellow, Gold, Silver, Crystal, Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald, Diamond, Pearl, PMD1, PMD2, Pokemon Ranger, Pokemon Colosseum, Pokemon XD (Had high hopes for this one, but it turned out worse than I expected), and Battle Revolution. Forgive me if I have left any out. And this is not counting the Wii Download able games. I do have a Wii, and Wifi, and everything pretty much, except Wii points.

Grammar is my number one priority whenever writing stories. I have good grammar, I would say, but lately, my stories have been lacking them. I've been slacking off. Whenever writing my stories, I always think of grammar before storyline. Well, thats not totally true, since I have had many stories (most failed except 2). But I'd have to say that I have good grammar.

When D/P came out, I pre-ordered it quickly. I knew I had to get this game since it would be revolutionary. I quickly beat it so I could start EV training my pokemon. I had just learned about EV's at this point, so I wasn't great. The only good pokemon that turned out really good that I use in all my battles is my EV trained Rhyperior (forgive me if I spelled it wrong). This pokemon won me many battles back then/ It may have been slow and always attacked second in battles, it had high defense. But it has been unlucky sometimes when I would get struck by a water type move, either KO'ing me in hit, or close to KO. I also had an EV trained Shiny Glalie that I used in every battle. But I later realized that Glalie wasn't such a great pokemon, so I put him up on my player thread.

Back when D/P came out, I was pretty popular on my My Player Thread. I had beaten my game quickly and started to hatch many Eevee eggs to get good IV's. Sam Von Noobenshtein (sorry for the misspell) had started to teach me more about Iv's and EV's. Since I was aiming for a Leafeon and Glaceon, he told me what IV's in what stats I should be looking for. I hatched so many Eevee eggs, I would stay up late at night, riding on my bike (In-Game) just trying to hatch the eggs. Then, I got so bored. As I walked to the PC to deposit all my eggs, one of them hatched. *crack* *crack* *crack* Shiny Eevee. This was so awesome. People may have already had Shiny Eevee's, but this one was so special to me. I kept him, never trained him one level. I got some people to clone him for me. The benefit for them was they could keep one.

But after many people got rare pokemon, the rare pokemon were not rare anymore. That was when My Player Thread declined. People who were more advanced began to EV train pokemon for others, and me and some other peoples My Player Thread were dying. I would get about 1 request a week, and it would usually be someone who would say, "Sorry, I don't need it anymore." Eventually, people stopped posting, and I was all alone for a few moments. After that, I trained among myself and eventually I returned, and got a more prosperous My Player Thread. People we glad to see me return, but some didn't remember me at all, which was the most sad part. I quickly went to the Battle Arena and battled someone, and won. I started to record my battles on my Player thread. That battle when I returned was a No Legendary, 3 pokemon only, single battle. I used Rhyperior, Leafeon, and Glaceon. I defeated him, and only lost one pokemon in the battle. That was when everything turned and I became better in competitive battling. Later on, I joined some teams and actually learned a lot. It was a great moment. I began entering tournaments and everything. I was not bad, but there were still many better than me. After a few tournaments over a period of time, I had stopped playing D/P, and possibly just dashed through the GTS every once in a while. My Player Thread, I had neglected, and stopped trading, but still battled once in a while. Right now, I had continued to battle, but in the process of creating a new team. The Dawn of PokeLen shall continue.

I've been in battling for a good 4 years, and I've played through Gold, Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald, Leaf Green, Fire Red, And Pearl. I am also a good battler on shoddy, but at the moment I'm trying to make the perfect team, but am failing. :/
I haven't battled in any tourneys because I don't ave wi-fi, I know alot about EVing and how it works, along with good movesets for Pokemon and good items for them too. I'm more a shoddy competitive battler than a Wi-Fi competitive battler, obviously. I began to play the games when Emerald came out, and I loved it. But then I knew nothing about EV's and stats until about 2 years ago, that's when I began to learn, and the games seemed clearer to me. I next got ruby/sapphire, and beat them, then FR/LG, and Lastly Pearl. I understand the use of about every item in the game and know what pokemon are best against a particular one. I also know about every ability and what they do. And lastly, I love battling and helping people.

I hope this will work KG.
