- Amon is an alias for "Noatak", a waterbender who removes others' bending by a specialized power known as bloodbending. It's scary stuff. All other Equalists are non-benders, and even Amon's closest lieutenant felt really betrayed when Amon was revealed to be a bender.
Basically, the Equalist henchmen/grunts/minions can temporarily remove peoples' bending via a fighting technique known as chi-blocking. Amon is the only non-Avatar who can permanently remove a person's bending. (Avatars remove and restore bending via energybending - a technique exclusive to Avatars. Bloodbenders are very rare and out of the 5 seen throughout both shows, Amon is the only one to remove bending powers.)
- Red Lotus is mostly made up of benders, yeah. Here's some of the more-prominent members:
- Unalaq was a waterbender who studied spirits. He went crazy and tried to bring about the end of the world by unleashing the big evil spirit (Vaatu) and becoming a Dark Avatar. The other Red Lotus members don't like this guy much.
- Aiwei is an earthbender & metalbender who is also a 'truthseer' - he can detect when a person is lying, and is a villain. Watch out for that.
- Zaheer is the big Red Lotus head, and he's an airbender. He's smart and strategic, which somehow makes him more deadly than his companions. He executes rulers (such as the Earth Kingdom queen) by removing the air from them - perfect for the nightkill, right? Remember, the Red Lotus is in charge of the nightkill.
- P'Li is a combustionbender - she can cause explosions with her mind. It's a deadly power and hard to react to. Might be a "vigilante" power in WW? She's Zaheer's lover, and when she dies Zaheer becomes a more-powerful airbender.
- Ming-Hua is a crazy waterbender who uses water as her arms since she's armless. That's it. She's crazy. Not much else to her.
- Ghazan is a lavabender - it's a specialization of earthbending. He's really chill and inspires a good guy (Bolin) to lavabend too.
