Pretty sure sports can be counted as entertainment (or Misc.), so by all means go ahead and make threads for your sporting interests there. I'm pretty sure if there's enough interest in such things people will post in there with you - that would be a good gauge if nothing else for the level of interest as a whole for such topics (as in is it worth making a forum specifically for them?)

I appreciate the approval. I'll probably end up making an MMA, Tennis, Futbol, and Football threads soon. I'm a massive sports addict.

Maybe you can make an annoucement in the WiFi (GTS) thread reminding people that NE/SE-Pichu can't be traded to any other game (besides the Poké Walker).

I'd love a "Badge" system. For more active members, they should get a badge (Kanto, Sinnoh, I really don't care) for the amount of posts they have.

Or, we should have the Gym Leader Challenge again, but badges are awarded to winners who defeat the Leaders.

This is not a good idea. Mostly because it encourages not activity, but people will just spam in order to reach the post threshold.

This is something that will come again but we are working on some details in order to make in run smoother and such. No need to worry, the 'Gyms' will return.

Badges or symbols similar to Smogon would be cool. Such as for Suspect voters, team raters, and etc. As for Gyms, that is always tough because of consistency of Gym leaders, amounts of challenges, and what to do afterward.

I'd like to see a format such as 6 Gym Leaders, 4 Elites, and a Pokebeach Champ. Champ can only challenged by someone with all the badges.

Or maybe you'd also have to have a warning level under a certain percent? It could allow more posts but reduce the spam for that badge (if it happens.)

Maybe we could have like a Pokebeach youtube channel? I know alot of other sites have that. Maybe it will get even more new active members. We coudl post important matches and stuff. This was probubly already asked before, but idk.

I also compeltly support Rushs Idea.

I feel a need to re-do the Video Game section. On Pokebeach, there is an uneven distribution between the amount of users in the TCG section and the VGC section. I would like to point out that the Global Terminal portion of the site is not so hot right now. If you look at Smogon's Trading section, for example, you see a well organized, clean, and a well-rounded environment. A lot of threads on the Global Terminal are somewhat shabby and unorganized mesh of pokemon put together. I guess the point I am trying to make is that I would like to see a more competitive side to our VGC trading section.

I have been involved in Pokebeach's Trading Corner (For TCG) for quite some time (but not so recently), but I know enough that our VGC is subpar to our TCG section. I am an active user on smogon.com, and appreciate their quality of work they have done; and I would preferably like to trade here. But that will most likely not happen until there is an uprising of our VGC threads with much needed high-quality work, and make them more active, in a way.

Now, I can see a few solutions to solving our deficit in the VCG's section. Just a few points I would like to point out, is that we must bring the competitive players to Beach. When a guest user looks at our Video Game related threads, and then looks at others, we do not appeal to the average competitive player. To appeal to competative players, I feel we can do several things:
  • Update the guidelines to make stricter rules based around quality.
  • Hold active Tournaments having prizes such as good pokemon.
  • Update Pokebeach's homepage with more VGC (not just updates to games such as Black & White) related Items, keeping a balance with TCG related news.

Edit: I would also like to ask: How many of you have found much interest in our Video Game section? Yes? No? Why?

Well I know some things have been done. Competitiive and Casual have been split up. RMT subforum is also moderated now so new threads won't show up until they are approved. I don't visit the TCG section mainly. There are only two main things I do for TCG right now. I answer ruling questions and I do my best to assist members with pokemon.com problems or things that are related to the Professor Program and Pokemon League. I've been working on tweaking some programs that will help for the Video Game section. I gave WPM the code for two such programs and I have been trying to find and fix any bugs that occured. It was in C++ so he may be in the process of converting it to a web language.

Well, if you do competive battling, then yes. I am for one. It's fun finding out stratigies ect. There are many playing styles. However, most of us are shoddy only.

That's better. I know, that was what I was thinking too, but I feel we need to reward veterans of the Beach, like myself.

First of all, pardon if I don't have a clear understanding of the extent of the Moderator and Super Moderator groups.

Going through previous pages I see that there are issues in regards to the "areas" a moderator may handle. I feel that a new position would highly benefit the forum; Specific Moderators. The closest thing at the moment appears to be the "Trade Council" position, but I believe that this could be implemented globally.

I have seen this done in many forums and it works wonderfully. These would be users, technically speaking not "staff" members that handle big decision-making, but rather people who specialize in various areas; be it competitive battling, trading, art contests, etc. These moderators would spend their time coming up with new ideas for their boards and also cleaning the everyday spam. Their moderating power would be limited to the select boards that they specialize in, however.

Besides creating a new team of users that will react much quicker to spam, boosting activity due to new ideas/events, this would also help staff members in the sense that they will not need to be as active and will not be so eagerly required to clean threads.

If so, they should be like Mini-Mods. Not full fledged.

I don't necesarily mean change anything, but rather provide more of a casual-competitive split in regards to wifi trading. I believe that we more strict rules that would provide a better quality forums overall. Here is an example: I will take the first RMT (Competitive) and first Trade thread from here and smogon:

First, the RMTs:
Pokebeach's: http://www.pokebeach.com/forums/showthread.php?tid=76830
Smogon's:http://www.smogon.com/forums/showthread.php?t=72428

And the trade threads:
Pokebeach's: http://www.pokebeach.com/forums/showthread.php?tid=53736
Smogon's: http://www.smogon.com/forums/showthread.php?t=67986

As you can see, the quality of our Wifi Forum's can be greatly improved. Our TCG forums are far superior than average forum's TCG sections, so I think that we can make the jump with the Video Game threads as well.

Still, most mods already do that. The new RMT systom supports this.

However it feels like they are "scattered" all around the forum. With specific moderators running boards it would give moderators time to concentrate on other issues. Many people have proven to be enthusiastic about a specific subject they enjoy (ie. competitive play, the possibility of an oekaki board which could lead to oekaki contests, etc...) so there is no lack of candidates.

Edit: whoops a typo.

At several points we had groups of staff members handling different parts of the forums - TCG Rules Masters (now Professors, I guess), Strategists for the Video Games (I believe?), and at one point we had a group of "Junior Moderators" who specialized in different areas, which is exactly the idea you spoke about. (At least, as far as I can remember.) Limited power in their specific areas to lessen the load of the moderators.

However, those groups eventually died out - some from lack of activity, no matter how hard they were pushed to do something. Currently, the Moderators and Super Moderators specialize in their own fields (competitive play, TCG, writing, art, etc.) as well as moderate the whole site. We have to try to be on daily, anyway, so having groups to lessen our load still wouldn't / shouldn't affect our activity levels. xD

A place to post news (and actually have someone look at it). I know the release date of Poképark Wii (this thread). I PM'd WPM and emailed him, but no reply. Now I'm sure many people would like to know this information, but with no way for users to post any information to help supply the front page, they won't know. If the place's threads had to be read by the mods before they appeared, then it would be easy to validate them and make sure no false rumors are spread. If someone did make a false thread, then they would be warned.

I think a bi-monthly poll should be posted! And the results should also be post with a little information about it! and I LOVE when the site owner shares about his real life! They're always fun and nice to read! :D
