What is your favorite Format ever?

These last 2 formats in my opinion have sucked, and since my coming back to the Pokemon TCG competitive scene. I have realized Nintendo has really dumb'd down or killed the essence of what Pokemon TCG use to be.

My favorite Format for starters was Neo Discovery - Legendary Collection.

I love MD-on the best. Sucks about Sableye, but it was great.
Gyarados guys.

MD-CoL, because it was home to my favorite deck (Gigasbox).

I didn't play during the Hoenn era at all (I actually only picked up Pokemon competitively around Secret Wonders), so if I'd played before then, who knows? I might have had an opinion on those.

Why they rotate format? >:U Just ban Sableye or Crobat G!

Banning Crobat doesn't even make sense man. Don't kill the bats!
Sableye was kind of just like the obnoxious kid who ruins the pizza party for everyone by making side conversations and angering the teacher. So let's blame him and take his lunch money!

Anyone who thinks that Crobat G needs to be banned really didn't grasp how the MD-on format ever worked.
What would really fix all the problems is to ban first-turn trainers to the one going first...in other words, don't do the stupid BW thing.

First turn trainers allowed for speed. If you ban Crobat G and/or Sableye, first turn donks would be less common. First turn trainers were banned for the one going first anyways.

-.-

That, and the trade-off for going first just makes it all the more advantageous to go first. Before, it was more skill-based: You could go first and get the chance to attack first, but in return, you'd be denied trainers on your first go. This actually makes it preferable to go 2nd; even though you aren't attacking first, the trade-off is better.

Come on, get with the program. It's already been substantially proven in many topics in the past that prohibiting the 1st-turn-trainer to the one who goes first helps to foster a healthier, more skill-based format.

Banning Crobat G is just like Banning other staple cards. If we banned Crobat G then why wouldn't we just ban Catcher, just as repetitive, and annoying.

And DNA is right. Crobat G wasn't exactly the defining point of the MD-ON format. IIRC that's the format Luxchomp, Sabledonk, and Dialgachomp all thrived in. Most of these hardly ever used Crobat.

With that being said, MD-ON was definitely my favorite format. Rogues stood little chance, but there was so many of them, I could just create endless decks. And it was fun to play Luxchomp vs. Luxchomp (mirror match lol).

The real problem was the first-turn trainer thing. Sableye, on its own, is not really a broken card, because it was meant to be played in a format where you could not play Supporters T1 and go first. Then some smart cookies played Sabledonk and proved their point fabulously, resulting in early rotation. It was not Sableye's fault that we got an early rotation. It was the T1 Trainer shift. Sableye was just the accessory.

...I honestly don't see what the hubbub is about Crobat G. It's like asking to ban Pokemon Collector. They're both staple cards in a large number of decks - yes, staples. There is absolutely nothing wrong with staples. You ban staples, and you hurt everyone. (Pokemon Collector got the ability to search for Pokemon with 160+ HP for a few months before leaving the format, but that is another story.)

This is very true. Someone said something once compared Sableye being able to thrive off first turn trainers to introducing a Revolutionary War soldier to an automatic machine gun. Sableye really isn't good, it's just the number of trainers that were now able to be played first turn for donks. And I agree with it not being Sableye's fault, it was the first turn trainer switch. That was just a bad idea. As VY said, "Guys, let's get rid of first turn donks by making trainers playable turn one. Right guys? Machamp is still good right guys? It's still 2009 guys? Right?"

DP-on was awesome. I like having a stage one that lets about a hundred different decks stay consistent.

DP-UL is probably actually better than MD-ON, IDK why I said MD-ON.
Claydol, guys. Claydol. Also plox and Dusknoir DP. DP-UL is the best.

I will not deny it: Claydol is sexy.

Baltoy is better.
HE'S A DAPPER DAN MAN.

Look at that balance. That finesse. Mmmmf.
But really though, DP-UL is the best. No Vileplume, no Junk Arm. Simpler times.

I guess you could say he had...psychic balance.

YEEEEEEEEEAH

Anyway, I'd be remiss if I didn't say the EX formats were by far the best at least for me. The big one for me was Hidden Legends-Holon Phantoms (I think this was it? I can't remember haha). DP-On was a good one too mainly because of Claydol, but there was nothing topping Pidgeot and the Holon Engine IMO.

dmaster out.
