As pointed out Plusle and Minun were based on rabbits which aren't rodents so it has happened before. A better generalisation of the "pika-clones" is that they so far have been small furry mammals usually rodents

You are most likely right about it not being a "pika-clone" but I thought it was something worth considering.
 
I hope they wont do a clear pikaclone like all gens did
they should do it like in gen 2 - marill is the pikachu replacement but has is own style (and type)

I hope it's a porcupine. It could be exclusively Electric, with bolts of lightning as its quills, or it could be dual type with Ground being its secondary type.

I wouldn't mind this, although I'd prefer they just not make a Pikaclone in the first place.
 
i still say a jerboa would be best.
maybe electric/fighting? wait, that would be kangaroo rats...
jerboas live in hot deserts, so ele/ground or ele/fire?
 
We have 3 Rats, 2 Bunnies, 1 Squirrel and 1 Flying Squirrel...

I totally think we are going to have a Hamster, and i think it's realy cute! xD
