What would Happen if pokemon were the dominant species of the world? They seem like it, especially Legendary pokemon. Big dragons like garchomp and hydreigon seem like a threat to humans, why aren't they the dominant species in the Pokeverse? Leave your thoughts below, I think it would be pretty weird being controlled by these monstrous creatures.

RE: What would happen if Pokemon were the dominant species in the world.

Pokemon as a whole are not one species At the very least they are a Kingdom of organisms, maybe more than one. And like any ecosystem, different Pokemon compete for resources and survival,.some species of Pokemon prey on other species. That said, humans aren't the dominant species either. Power plant can be shut down, or a route blocked, just because a Pokemon screwed it all up. The Pokemon universe constantly impresses upon us that equal coexistence between humans and Pokemon species makes all lives easier.

What would it be like if Pokemon were dominant? I think human civilization would be primitive, if it existed at all.

RE: What would happen if Pokemon were the dominant species in the world.

Like Atadiusti, I too don't think that humans are the dominant species, at least for now since they still rely heavily on Pokémon. I don't know if this is the way the creators wanted it to be by showing us a more friendly world without machines, industrialization and lots of pollution.
When it comes to Pokémon, I think they're dominant as a whole since their numbers may surpass ours but if there was to be a dominant Pokémon...Arceus! Sorry, I had to bring this one, because it's the creation Pokémon, not only that but Palkia, Dialga and Giratina are like gods, feared and, in some ways, worshipped (that church like building in Hearthome is some proof to that). What else there's to say after knowing that there's a creation entity that happens to be a Pokémon? Sure, it's stupid when Arceus can be captured and even befriends humans like it were some pet, but it's still there.
I don't know why Arceus created humans but having the creator of the universe being a Pokémon means something.
Also, don't forget Pokémon like Clefairy and Deoxys, Pokémon from space, so "Pokémon" don't exist only on PkEarth but also somewhere in space, in the moon, places where humans have yet to go so another clue to think that Pokémon are dominant in numbers, they just have yet to remeber that they can slave and destroy humans almost in the blink of an eye.
....
*goes rally and chat with some Pokémon, namely the Musketeer trio, a couple of legendaries and try to create a new world order*...

Pokemon Mystery Dungeon would happen.

RE: What would happen if Pokemon were the dominant species in the world?

I think that they would serve as great companions, not rulers. That would suck. People would save a bunch of $ becuase they wouldn't need cars (flying pokemon) No electricity bill (electric pokemon) No heater bill. Ride a Areodactyl to school and lots more I don't have time to list them all.

PlazmaPheonix, I believe by dominant species the op meant that we would be under them. I would have to say it might be scary, but it's improbable. There is nothing to suggest that enough of them are intelligent enough or have high enough populations to be the dominant species. Maybe some kinds of pokemon, like metagross because it's smarter than we are and definitely stronger, but the population size thing would be a problem. But if they were, I think it would suck and we would probably be enslaved or something. This is interesting to think about.

Any non-supernaturally-powered creatures would go extinct.

RE: What would happen if Pokemon were the dominant species in the world?

I know I'm not the only one when I say, I really wish some Pokémon were real!
Having a Garchomp and a Hydreigon would be sick! And if they were a, or the, dominant species in our world. I'd never leave my house. :)

Why do you think that? It's interesting to see how many people think the consequences would be negative. Humans dominate the animal kingdom, but that hasn't caused everything else to go extinct.

RE: What would happen if Pokemon were the dominant species in the world?

Well, either we'd be their pets, or PMD.

BTW, all Pokémon are one specie, as if they were all different species, then there'd be no hot Skitty on Wailord action.

Because Pokemon already eat each other. And normal animals are much more defenseless than Pokemon. I think animals, unless they are very resilient predators, would die out in the new food chain that would be created.

RE: What would happen if Pokemon were the dominant species in the world?

Yeah but the same can be said for the Human - animal relationship. In any matter, Pokemon still probably wouldn't be the dominant species because they lack human intelligence.

Today - Sharks, an animal everyone loves.... or is scared of.
When Pokémon come into existance - Son: "Mommy, what's a Shark?"
Mom: "I'm not sure, I believe they were killed off by Sharpedo."

Upon the creation of Pokémon :p I believe certain species of animals would die off and some would live on.

Me too! I don't think Pokemon are that bad at all! But if they were to control us, I wouldn't mind at all...

RE: What would happen if Pokemon were the dominant species in the world?

I think they would use us to wash, feed, entertain them, to make their hard work, even to fight, Arceus would be the king, and the Legendaries would have their own territories. But there would be a good Pokémon that will release us from being slaves for pokémon. They would make us to make their houses. I think that.
Or they can be good with us and live like in the animé.

Allow me to present to you the dodo, several species of tiger, the thylacine, and others! All killed to extinction or extinction in the wild due to overhunting for sport, or by destroying habitats. Humans' stint as the dominant species has caused quite a few extinctions.

Except you do realize each Pokemon is listed with its own species name, and Oddish has even been supplied a scientific one.Your argument is a fallacy as well..There are real world examples of that happening too, Cro Magnons and Neanderthals were different species and they interbred, You and I are results of that. Horses, mules and zebras all interbreed, and only donkey's and jennys are inviable offspring. There are many exemplary botanical crossbreeds... The list goes on and on.

"species" is only the lowest step, you've got domain, kingdom, phylum, class, order, family, genus, and then species.
In the pokemon world this would be simplified, but you would have:

Class (egg group = common characteristics and interspecies compatibility)
Genus (evolutionary lines)
Species (all the different kinds of pokemon)

That is at the very least, of course, I'm sure a proper taxonomy could be applied here by someone with more expertise (or effort).

RE: What would happen if Pokemon were the dominant species in the world?

Pokemon -are- the dominant species of the world. There's no way they aren't; the opening to just about every Pokemon movie will tell you that. The reason they don't go around murdering all the humans is because plot. It's called suspension of disbelief.

Not to mention some of them wouldn't do that because of their dispositions, and it makes sense that some would be easily scared off by humans.
In the real world, it's not like walking through a park full of squirrels is dangerous. Just because Pachirisu has electrical power, it doesn't automatically mean it's gonna go around electrocuting humans for the fun of it. Sure, it might shock a child if they kept on pestering it and trying to catch it, but that's basic animal instinct.

The larger Pokemon (Haxorus, Gyarados etc) are a bit harder to define, since they might not attack a human on sight, but it might not take much for them to attack a human.
