For starters. At what point in the anime did you stop watching, for one reason or another (if you have)? Were there any particular wall bangers that kinda ticked you off? I'm sure that plenty of us began to watch the anime at one point, and that an even greater quantity has decided to stop or not even start. Then again, there's still the younger audience which keeps hold of its endearingly idealistic dream of watching Ash become a ... I'll leave it to the readers to decide what the ellipsis omitted.[/pokeymanzmastur]

I personally watched the first season in bits and pieces. As a child I was too disorganised to make sure I never missed an episode and I couln't be bothered figuring out the TV magazines to know when it would be on. I watched enough to have a general outline of what had happened since the last one though.

Even back then though Team Rocket annoyed me to no end. I couldn't even understand why they wanted Ash's Pikachu in the first place, it wasn't explained at all. "Why do you want my Pikachu?" "It's special, we can't say any more." Can't say any more in case you actually gave us the impression that this show has some reasonable plot twists.

Either way I think after the first movie and the pokemon league I kinda felt like I'd had enough of the predictableness, and that the fact that Ash didn't come undoubtedly first in the league was about the biggest plot twist we were going to get for the rest of ever. From then on I haven't really watched it at all, maybe an odd episode when I have nothing better to do and I need a laugh, but even that's rare. I'm quite glad I gave up on it, as the more I hear about it the more it seems to annoy me. It had the potential for so many good plots and character development but it almost seemed as though it was avoiding things like that.

Plus the fact that Ash is STILL 10 years old. Seriously.

I still watch the anime, even though it's not very good anymore.
I thought it started going down hill in Johto. Those season were horrible, in my opinion. I actually stopped watching for a year or two, but I ended up getting back into it eventually. :p
I love the first season. I wish it was still as funny as it was back then.

I started watchin the fist season and got bored I was mre interested in the movies Jhoto seris was the only one I actually tried t watch when I could but after that it was so dull If they would have gotten rid of team rocket and added a better villan it would have been more interesting other wise I only watch episode that have my favorite pokemon in them

I started to watch Gen. 3 and I realized it sucked. And that the anime was the same thing. 12 million fillers, and like 25 real episodes, then the end and a start of a new region :D.

Yeah, the anime really started sucking bad in Generation 3. It's just been downhill since.

dmaster out.

@Chaos6: My sentiments exactly. Ash losing the league ticked me off so much that I came to wonder why I even began to watch the show. Even though it gave me hope in a sense that there would be another bunch of seasons to watch, I guess that I was only clinging on to false hope. After Ash lost, they stopped airing the show on local channels. On occasions that I did see the show, I began to realize why they stopped. They were taking it too far; it just wasn't my cup of tea anymore.[/jumpingtheshark]

It's never been really good. The anime is much like a rollercoaster. It has high points and low points. But if you look at all the seasons, they have points that are exactly the same.

Let's face it. Ash still can't grow up.

I think one of their main problems was the lack of any real threat. You always know Team Rocket are going to show up and get blown up into the sky, no problem. There was never really any villain who DID anything. If Team Rocket had actually got away with it and stole Pikachu then things might actually have gotten interesting. But the fact that they were so pathetically weak and had both their pokemon defeated by a single attack most of the time renders them completely pointless as villains. They're comic relief, that's what they are. The main villains are comic relief characters, that's their problem.

The first time they showed up they actually seemed pretty competent and threatening. Then they got beaten by Caterpie... A Caterpie that Ash had only just caught. Surely that can only have been about level 5 at most and it won, easily. They should have given up on Jesse and James then, because there's really no recovering yourself from that.

The reason why Team Rocket never won it's because this is a kids show. The villains never win in kids shows.

Even so, a temporary victory couldn't hurt. A quest to get Pikachu back could have been fun. I'm just saying that even kids get bored of Team Rocket showing up and failing miserably in every other episode.

I admit that I'd be profoundly entertained should those two beat Ash even once. I'd hail that as my favorite episode, and enjoy the look of pride and refurbished ego that those two losers would wear at the time. How can they have funds to buy lightning proof armor/mechs/blimps and other machinery without getting paid properly? They can't possibly be paid to fail, unless Satoshi Tajiri wants that. In a nutshell, they're idealized comic relief "baddies", end of story.[/rocketfails]

halfway through the 1st season i grew up
i stopped watching cartoons.
but i kept on gaming lol

I have not stopped waching it. I have seen all of seasons 1-2 most of 3 all of 4 most of 5 All of 6-11. I even watch th marathons that CN has 2 times a year. Also I was watching it week days until they moved it to early hours so now I can't watch it then but I watch it every Staurday morning at 9 AM. I am waiting for the return of DBZ but it has not been on CN or online for awhile now. I hope Yugioh will return also. I saw the first 4 or 5 seasons solid but then the WB removed it from afternoons and then the channel died so it has not been on and I am not sure if CN has picked it up but I don't think they have except for GX anyway.:)

It's obvious that the show's quality has decreased. And for me, the show "jumped the shark" because of the VA switch (which took place in 2006).

Personally, I still watch Pokemon, but I'm very upset by the lack of quality in the voice acting. To be honest, the show hasn't been the same, since Pokemon USA replaced Veronica Taylor and the rest of the original cast.

Myself and many other, long-time fans of the show have grown up listening to the familiar voices of our characters, Ash, Brock, and Team Rocket. And therefore, seeing those voices change, and the characters' personalities change too - this was not a only a huge shock - but also a huge disappointment for many dub fans. I mean, from our perspective, we didn't ask to see our favorite characters' personalities and voices change. We didn't want this change either (honestly, after 8 years of having the same voice cast, who could've seen this coming?). But needless to say, Pokemon International (formerly known as Pokemon USA) still made this change, and it was one of the worst decisions ever (in my opinion).

Anyway, I wouldn't be surprised if there are many Pokemon fans who have stopped watching the show, simply because of the VA switch.

And just as an example, "Leading A Stray" was an episode for me, where I felt that the quality of the voice acting was just terrible. I personally thought this was one of Sarah Natochenny's worst performances (just compare that episode to "Get Your Rotom Running" and you should see what I mean). Really, Sarah's inconsistency is just mind-boggling. She can be "decent" in some episodes, and "absolutely terrible" in other episodes. Heck, even when Sarah does a good job, her portrayal of Ash just doesn't compare to the way Veronica brought him to life. In comparison to Veronica's Ash, Sarah's Ash seems so lifeless, because the emotion she puts into him sounds very forced and fake....

Man, I really hope Pokemon USA brings back Veronica Taylor. She was Ash's soul! She brought him to life on Pokemon for 8 years! But, without Veronica, Ash is a completely different character! I want Veronica back! :(

They did this change because they could not afford to support their VA's anymore so basically they just quit and hired new VA's. It was a big shock to everyone. It is not the same but it is still good in most episodes. It is very hard for Sarah to do his voice. I have actually seen her do it on a show on TV and I can tell that they were forcing her to do it. She wanted to do it sort of but she did not feel that she could do it and they hired her anyway. She is pretty young too and her cords are not developed well enough. PUSA even had a petition thing going as to see if they should keep the original cast. After that was over the ditched them and hired a street cast basically. They did not even give them enough time to tryout. It was a force on the cast they have now. That is why it is not as good as it could have been. If they were going to replace the cast the should have started seeking a better cast while season 5 was airing that way it would have given them plenty of time to prepare for season 9 and beyond but they waited until season 8 to do that. they should have given them 4 years to prepare but they only gave them 1 year. 1 year is not enough time for any VA to prepare. PUSA messed up badly on this one. One day they will regret their mistake and wished that they had never did that. It cost them badly and now that they have dug a hole they can't get out because of that mistake. They will be in a hole until they can get their act together and get a better cast for Pokemon or at least train Sarah better than she is doing now.:)

What are you talking about? Where are you getting your "facts"?

As far as I know, Pokemon USA never held a petition for the fans to see if they should keep the original cast.

In fact, 4Kids used to dub the Pokemon anime. 4Kids dubbed seasons 1 through 8. But sometime around June/July of 2006, Pokemon USA got the license to dub the anime, because they wanted to be in control of the anime (since they already owned the rights to the licensing of the video games and the TCG). One of their first decisions upon getting the anime license, was to replace the entire voice cast. That's right. Pokemon USA replaced all of the original voice actors! And the worst part is that, Pokemon USA didn't even give them a chance to continue working on the show, once season 9 came along.

Before season 9 was dubbed, Pokemon USA made a 10th Anniversary special called the Mastermind of Mirage Pokemon. This special aired on KidsWB. However, it was absolutely terrible, and all the fans hated it! And everyone emailed Pokemon USA, complaining about how bad the new voices were! Unfortunately, Pokemon USA didn't learn from their mistake. In the Mastermind special, Ash was voiced by Kayzie Rogers (aka Jamie Peacock). So, in response to the fan outcry, Pokemon USA decided to redub the special. But instead of actually listening to the fans, they kept the new voice actors (Michele Knotz, Bill Rogers, and Jimmy Zoppi - aka, Billy Beach). And, they made one change for the Mastermind redub. They got rid of Kayzie Rogers as Ash, and that's when they decided to hire Sarah Natochenny.

And I know for a fact that Veronica Taylor was never offered, nor approached, to work on the Mastermind special (or season 9). I know this, because I received emails from Veronica Taylor herself, during the time of the VA switch.

Veronica loved voicing Ash, and she definitely would have worked on the show again, if Pokemon USA would've given her that chance. But unfortunately, the company never gave her that opportunity. In fact, to this day, Pokemon USA has told Veronica that she "isn't allowed to work on the show". This makes me very upset, because I know that Veronica really wants to voice Ash again. :(

Yeah, but there's the old saying, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it".

My point is that, Pokemon USA shouldn't have replaced the original voice actors. The Pokemon anime wasn't broken, before Pokemon USA "fixed it" by replacing the original voice actors. They had no reason to make a change like this. The characters on Pokemon had the same voices and same personalities for 8 years. All Pokemon USA did, by changing the VAs, was cause fans to lose interest in the show (because they replaced the voice actors, which changed the characters on Pokemon completely). And, they did something unbelievably cruel to the original voice actors, by replacing them like this, after they had worked on the show for 8 years. And how Pokemon USA didn't even give them the chance to work on the show again, that's the part which makes me really upset.

I mean, it's obvious that Sarah Natochenny can't bring Ash to life. She just can't give him the same amount of emotion as Veronica could. And actually, the majority of fans prefer Veronica's portrayal of Ash (over Sarah Natochenny's). This makes me wonder why Pokemon USA doesn't want to allow Veronica to work on the show. They seem biased. What exactly does that this company have against her? Veronica Taylor (along with the rest of the original voice cast) worked on Pokemon for 8 years. And in my opinion, I really think Veronica deserves the chance to voice Ash again. At the very least, Pokemon USA could still offer her a chance to work on the show and regain the role that she loved. The role of Ash Ketchum.

By the way, don't get me wrong. I have nothing against Sarah Natochenny (the new voice actor for Ash). I simply dislike her portrayal of Ash, because her emotion always seems so fake and forced. That, and she does a terrible job in certain Ash centered episodes (like "Pika and Goliath" and "Leading A Stray").

Veronica always did an amazing job voicing Ash. She truly made him who he was. That's why I want Veronica Taylor to voice Ash again. Because I feel like Sarah's Ash is a completely different character. But like I said, I have nothing personal against Sarah. I mean, if Pokemon USA were to give Veronica the chance to regain her role as Ash again, that's all that I want. Sarah Natochenny could still work on the show, and I wouldn't mind that at all. She's a good voice actress, and I'm sure she would do just fine in any other role. But, Sarah just isn't Ash (in my opinion). =P

And it's not like it would be impossible for Veronica to work on the show. Afterall, Rachael Lillis (the original voice of Misty and Jessie) did the voice of the gym leader Maylene, in 4 episodes of Pokemon Battle Dimension. So, because Pokemon USA allowed Rachael Lillis to return and do a minor role, it shouldn't be much of a stretch for them to allow Veronica to work on the show and regain her original role as Ash.

Sarah was on an episode of Teen Kids news. It happened to be on and they were talking about her and how she did the voice for Pokemon. PUSA held a Place your comments type thing where you could send your comments in or something. It was sort of a petition and many Pokemon fans did but I was not one of them though. The guy who did Brock does not want to come back because he got into a big fight or something and he did not like the way he was being treated. PUSA can be very pushy as I have seen so yeah They need to work on getting new VA's For Ash Team Rocket and Brock badly.:) The episode of Teen kids news aired about 2-3 years ago. I don't remember everything. I have seen what she looks like though. She has sort of long Brown hair and it pretty tall but not tall tall. If you know what I mean and has a slim build and pretty as well. The need to work on the voice more though. If they work with her more then it would be better.:)

Pokemon doesn't care about die-hard fans. They only care about the newest generation of fans who have rich parents, and buy a lot of anime junk. They want a fresh start for each generation, that's why Ash will never win the championship. It's sad enough that he's played by a girl.
