Pokemon Why is R/S/E hated so much?

How did/do you find R/S/E?

I loved R/S/E from the very beginning. I love ALOT of the monsters, and I had a great time playing it. I also love the environments and music almost as much as Gen 1.

My fav gen's would be in this order:

1. Gen 1
2. Gen 3, currently, but 5 could easily replace it.
3. Gen 5 for now, but it could easily shift into 2nd place once new monsters are revealed.
4. Gen 2 (too many worthless single stage normals, but has my favorite starter ever, Feraligator <3)
5. There's another gen? Oh yeah, gen 4, w/e.

The reason I dislike Gen 3 is actually a pretty simple one, it honestly felt like the first Pokémon game made with the intention of just making money. The entire dex, as well as Hoenn itself, seems to have been made using a checklist, everything just felt awfully similar.
Just about the dex: You have starters, vermin, cocoon-based bugs, 2 version-exclusive stone-based grass lines, 2 bird-lines, etc. It's almost possible to just go down the Gen 3 list and match every Pokémon with its Gen 1 counterpart, which will usually be in around the same spot in the dex.
The games just felt unimaginative, which I guess isn't really noticeable if these were you first Pokémon games, but sadly this wasn't really the case for me.

It also started some pretty horrible trends:
Silly teams whose only purpose seems to be global suicide
Overpowered and downright silly legends
One-of legends being version-exclusive, which is more of a "buy both games" than a "trade with your friends!" tactic
More dragons
Way too many legends
Way too many values which determine stats (where in Gen 2 the only value which really mattered was IVs, we now also have natures and a new EV-system)
And I'm sure there's a few more I can't think of at the moment.
On top of that, it still amazes me how they didn't do the Physical/Special split in Gen 3.

I'm not a big fan of most the designs either, but that's probably just a matter of opinion.

Gen 3 isn't necessarily horrible, it just isn't better than (and in a lot of ways worse than) Gen 2, which is quite sad considering they had more money, a bigger team and better hardware at their disposal.

As much as I love Gen 3, this is correct :O
It did start a ton of bad trends...

However, I loved playing Sapphire and Emerald, and I am a HUGE fan of the region.

i liked the 3rd gen alot except for the fact that u couldnt get alot of pokemon from gen2, frlg helped but it wasnt enough
i liked how simple the contests were before all the other crap they added in dppt

imo the best starter designs were in gen 2 and 3 and the worst designs were in gen 4(empoleon looked plain stupid infernape wasnt great, and torterra balanced out empoleon by being plain awesome)

It's okay. I'll admit, it's my least favorite generation of all, but I didn't dislike it. There are certainly some things I disliked and some things I liked (I'll post them below):

Dislikes
1. Too much water- always running into pokemon, always trainers to battle constantly without end, water-type dominant
2. Many of the "new" pokemon replaced old ones species-wise (Crawdaunt over Kingler, Skitty over Meowth, Seviper over Arbok, Sealo over Seal); I found this series to lack many new ideas
3. Some of the pokemon made no sense or had bad designs (Luvdisc has no point, Baltoy is cool but it's point is unknown, why make a puppet-ghost with Banette?)
4. For it's time it was too radical of a change (not being able to go back and get old pokemon at the start of the GBA era really made people upset); if it came out at a better time, I think it would have had much better criticism
5. Night/day was gone
6. Too many legends (the term legend has lost its luster in gens 3 and 4)

Likes
1. Some of the best routes (tall grass, bike paths, weather, tree tops)
2. While most of the pokemon were remakes or badly designed, some of my favorites came from this generation and are incredicbly unique: Tropius, Absol, Banette (despite the claim I made earlier about it)
3. Team Magma and Team Aqua were a different approach (not as cool as Team Rocket IMO, but they had a point and stuck to it, much cooler than Galactic or what I see of this new team in gen V)
4. Diving is awesome and unique, even if it wasn't properly accurate (it is fictional, but humans can't breathe underwater)
5. Secret bases were so much better than those nowadays
6. Contests were the best then, but not being a main factor of the game, this is one limited liking

My rankings:
Gen 1
Gen 2
Gen 4
Gen 3
(5 hasn't come out yet, but so far I'm assuming it will either displace 4 or be after it)

I had some others, but I forgot... to sum it all up, I like the third generation the least of all, but it had some upside to it, and in the end, I enjoyed it. I think it's major downfall was the time in which it came out and its drastic changes were intensified by the fact that you could not backtrack to generation 1 or 2 until the remakes and other games were made.

It was good. Better than all the other ones until FR/LF. I thought they where reasonable.

Rankings of coolness
1. gen Four
2. Gen One
3. Gen three
4. Gen Two

Gen five will be atthe top or second.

I've played every generation of pokemon in order, I grew up with the older ones too. But Gen 3 is still my favorite by far. Add an "I love it" option to the poll please.

I really like the music in Hoenn! I also enjoyed the fact that half of Hoenn is just water and in some point of the game you actually travel across the 'ocean.'

contests were so much better back then
they were simple, none of this dancing and dress up crap

i think hoenn was before its time. it didnt look to good on the gba but on b/w like graphics it would have been even more spectacular.

It's not hated as much as people would like to think.People need to realize that R/S/E set the pass way to the to the online battling that we know as th metagame.

its just like dppt. it wasnt that good to people but really great for a first try at a new console. it was mostly a test to see what people wanted and how well the changes were.
