Why is Tangrowth so good?

Tangrowth is a diabolically broken card when paired with Sceptile. Why has no one noticed this?

Without Sceptile, it's still very good: for 4 energies, do a solid 60 AND remove 3 damage counters AND prevent retreating...every turn. Pair that with leftovers and you're removing 40 damage each turn. Pair that with Dawn Stadium that will be coming out soon and you're removing 50 damage each turn when you attach an energy! On top of all this, Sceptile DOUBLES all grass energies, making Tangrowth's attack cost a mere 2 energies. On top of all of this, it has 2, that's right, only 2 retreat. Even Magmortar and Electivire have 3 retreat.

So my question is this: Why is Tangrowth so underrated, and is there something I'm not realizing that easily counters Tangtile?

I've lost against this deck SEVERAL times while using a FIRE deck (Magmortar even). How can this deck be stopped? Also, I thought of Cessation but the deck runs Pachirisu as well.
I ask this question because it was pretty humiliating to lose to a deck even with weakness on my side. Oh yeah, did I mention both Tangrowth and Sceptile have water resistance?

This format is all about speed, Tangrowth looses due that. It's not fast enough, even with Sceptile.

Also in case you havent noticed Tangrowth and Sceptile dont work! Notice how Tangrowth says each energy card not each energy! There fore even with Sceptile doubling energy it would still do 10! There fore this combo doesnt work!

5 energy for a 50 snipe? Empoleon does 40 for 2...Tangrowth also has a low damage output for 4 energy and ya, sceptile and tangrowth don't combo

Tangrowth is the Stage 1 version of Torterra DP. It attacks for less damage and still heals itself. Having Sceptile does not make it better for Power Whip as it is dependent on Basic Energy "cards".

Its not about that sniping attack. People who think it is are dumb. It really is best to treat that sniping as some icing on the cake, while you should focus on Sceptile 2-for-60-and-30-heal-and-no-enemy-retreat.

Still doesn't seem that great to me..it has a REALLY slow set-up

It's actually not that slow, it's just that this game has become so darn fast that unless you've got your main hitter set up an hour before the game starts you're lagging behind.

Well ya, that's what I mean. Most decks need a T2/T3 set-up andthis one is about a T4/T5 set-up, it gets killed early on.

Tangrowth is not broken, it dosen't matter what you run with it. Its to slow in the current format. Just because you lost to it one time, dosen't make it a good card. And you probably lost because he got some god hand, and out played you.

I know. :( Sad isn't it. I like Tangrowth and I'll use him. Luckily my "metagame" is slower and moves at a good pace.

every one thinks tangrowth is good ,but it sucks blissey does too . they do plus , magmotor is the one you want to play , ok tangrowth has 5 energy 50 damage
blissey does 70 and magmotor does lets see 100! it's just so much better but thats what think.

And for five energy Pelipper does 150!!!1!!!

This thread isn't talking about the first attack. And honestly, yes, Mags is better than Tangy, but every card has a way around it, there is no unstoppable Pokémon.

true but i'm saying the card sucks ,sure the first attack is ok but not good enough to win a tourament.

Except for Pre-release Tournaments. It's a beast there ;)

Yet you believe that DWB is a grand broken deck. So I doubt we can take your opinion serious.

Focus on the second attack and Sceptile. If you don't, you're up for disappointment. You're likely to lose to Magmortar due to weakness, but other decks might have problems. GG wont like the fact that Tangrowth can heal itself so it gets out of Gardy X range, while it can bring benched stuff in GG's own Bring Down ratio. Not saying its a favorable matchup but yeah.

Sceptile-Tangrowth is pretty fast. You dont need to set up a Stage 2 for attacking, just a Stage 1 and get that Stage 2 back, which isn't hard to do.
