Why Kingdra prime?

Honestly I wonder if the value of yanmega is so high right now because everyone was caught off guard by how good it is. So everyone is scrambling to get them all at once.

I believe it's the former. Yanmega isn't LuxrayX in terms of being very strong.

Very True its jus so freakin quick in this format as it is right now.

Are you trying to say this game wasn't boring that previous format where 3/4 of the people at tournaments were running luxchomp?
There were other good decks back then, even now there's atleast 1 if not more decks that don't run yanmega... Not everyone want to play same decks.

While that is true. The masses tend to lean towards the top deck(s). Cuz look at last year, we had Luxchomp, Dialgachomp, Sablelock (kinda and its variants, Big Daddy Krow, and LuxLock). Gyarados kinda fluctuated from average to good most the season. But the point I was making if a deck is good most people are going to build it and play it. Not even play it for a tournament, but they will play it to get a feel for the match up. I love how refreshing it is to play a deck that I don't see in 90% of my matchups.

Yanmega's just valuable because it's a Stage 1 (which are baws in this format) that can attack for no energy fairly easily (matching hands doesn't take too much effort). It has a solid 110 HP, a resistance to top-tier Donphan, and no retreat. That, plus its attacks aren't terrible as far as damage (it can 2HKO most things in the format, starting when it gets put on the bench), and it has a fine weakness– Zekrom, basically the only Lighting-type in the meta right now, would OHKO it either way. And with Outrage, just don't put damage on Zekrom and you're good. Yanmega really doesn't have any specific weakness to speak of, which makes it extremely powerful.
I don't think it was that people were caught off guard– it had been gaining popularity for awhile– but its success certainly is a factor of its exorbitant price.

^ another lightning type is magnezone prime.

many things in the meta can OHKO yanmega. the problem is that they need to survive the speed of yanmega. if you can do that, you win. people just need to figure out how to get past that. reshiram/zekrom were considered to be broken when they first came out.....but then people figured out how to get past it.

but hey, this isn't a yanmega discussion, it's a kingdra discussion...and the point is, people are super hyped about it right now DUE TO yanmega's hype but people will lose their excitement over kingdra prime very soon (pretty much as soon as worlds is over) so if you're gonna get rid of it, do so before the end of august for the best value trade. bench snipers will go away quickly once catcher comes out.

Don't forget Lanturn prime. So he can hit Yanmega, Reshiram/Emboar both for weakness due to his pokepower. He may not be the best but is a decent card

Because kingdra prime can be paired with anything that snipes, Mandibizz... Yanmega...
Kingdra prime can be paired with anything really, it is quite effective in KingCino.

in theory it's paired with everything. but realistically it only works in a stage 1 deck or a stage two deck that has room for a second stage 2 (like a vileplume deck....not many trainers means room for a 1-1-1 kingdra prime tech...maybe even a 2-1-2)

I was playing around with Zekrom and MagneBoar, but I have swapped to Stage 1 decks and probably won'tgo back until a major change in format happens. There's so many combos that can be made, between Yanmega, Kingdra, Donphan, Magnezone, Zoroark, and Cinccino, Stage 1s and Speedy Stage 2s are too fast for decks like MagneBoar, and if it can survive the first 2 turns, outplays Zekrom. Kingdra just adds on the extra damage, and its great. I actually am starting to see a lot of Kingdra/Magnezone/Yanmega. It sounds crazy, but its really really good. Even JWittz mentioned it.
