Wii Problems

Hello,

I've got a problem with my Wii. I ordered the game Spectrobes Origins from PlayAsia.com (from Hong Kong). Today it arrived and as soon as I put the game in the Wii it said there was an error and it couldn't read the disc.

Now I've read through my Wii manual again and it said the Wii could only read discs from the EEA (European Economic Area) since I bought my Wii here in the Netherlands. And the game is from Hong Kong, so outside of the EEA.

Now my question is what should I do? Isn't there a way to make it playable on the Wii? I really want to play it, but I'm not going to buy a(another) foreign Wii. And I don't think this game would make it ever to Europe, at least I haven't seen it in the stores yet here.

Thanks in advance,
- Pokequaza

If you read the fineprint on all games and systems, it will say someting like "This item is to only be used in so-and-so countries". I'm not sure how it works, but there is some difference in format when using foreign games. You can try to ask the site to take it back, but Nintendo will do nothing about it.

you could homebrew it or get a modchip to play foreign games like i`m doing for battle stadium don
What do you mean with homebrew or get a modchip? Will there be a risk they affect my Wii and where can you get it?

Yes, I noticed that yesterday after reading through the manual again. Still my DS is capable of playing games from everywhere around the world... No, I don't think PlayAsia will take it back.

If you did not update your Wii in a very long time, you can always get a freeloader, although I think some more recent games also directly install an update disabling it. There might be a new version someday, though.
I actually used it to import Brawl from the US, it worked perfectly and was very easy to use, but you had to remove the disc, insert the freeloader, remove the freeloader and then reinsert the disc every time :S

So yeah, if that's not an option, you're left with modding your Wii (which voids your warranty and can cost quite a bit) or using the homebrew channel (which means you'll have to buy Twilight Princess, if you don't have it already (in which case, get it anyways)).

The easiest way is probably just getting the PAL-version and to try and prevent yourself from ever making this mistake again...

My Wii updates automatically when a new game is inserted mostly, anyway this was not the case. About the freeloader, I just googled it, it looks interesting, for a price of $25,00 it's worthy I think. (About the reinserting part I don't care that much, it's done in a minute so not a that big problem)

But about that ''homebrew channel''? I do have Twilight Princess of course (it was my first game btw :3). But what has it to do with the homebrew channel and what's the function of it exactly? (I can't find something about it at the moment...)

The freeloader won't work at all on updated Wiis, so be sure to check (no idea how).

Actually, if I'm not mistaken, TP doesn't work for the Homebrew channel anymore on the latest updates...
Anyhow: http://wiibrew.org/wiki/Homebrew_Channel
Should have all the info you need.

Ah okay, thank you very much, I'll read through it later this evening, it's surely looks interesting. Hmm... how do you check if you had your latest update? And I don't have access to a SD card reader, or it must be built in my laptop. Anyway, I'll give a look at it tomorrow, now it's time for homework :/

The Homebrew Channel (often abbreviated as simply "HBC") is a method of loading homebrew onto your Wii. Allows you to run .elf and .dol files without the need to run exploits, such as the Twilight Hack or Bannerbomb, everytime. (Credit to Wiiso for the definition)

Follow the directions at http://wiiso.com/showthread.php?t=33038 to install the HBC on a Wii which has the system version 4.0. Once you install the HBC, I recommend using Gecko OS and/or Neogamma R6 to play the game as it allows you to play the game without needing the the right region.

To prevent the risk of your Wii getting bricked, please go to http://wiiso.com/showthread.php?t=32881 and open the tab labeled "Bricks/BootMii/Preloader"

Okay, thank you very much. I'll see if I have some time left soon, because I don't think I'll be able to do it in 15 minutes.

there is a way to unlock the region lock on the wii, but your warranty automatically ends if you do.
Uhm... yeahh? What is the method to do so then?

The game you got could be a very low quality game which means if your Wii is not low quality it may not work without altering your Wii in some way. Howeve if you have a Europeon Wii and you got a Hong Kong (Chinese) game it will not work at all because the Chinese make theirs so they can't be exported to work in other Wii's other than their own. Same goes for their Pokemon events. You can't get the Korean events unless you use an AR to obtain asnd earse the OT's so they can be traded. In your case it is a Chinese game and will not work unless you get a Chinese Wii because they use very little Power to operate their electronics and is not compatable in any way. It will not work unless you buy a Wii from China.:)

Please read through the read next time posting things like this, as you could've read, there are a lot of ways to make games from Hong Kong operational in an European Wii.

Forcing your Wii to make another countries game to work in your Europeon is voilation of your waranty. Altering your Wii to make another countries game to work is also against the law where I live in the U.S.A. If you are ever caught you could pay a hefty fine too. If you want to take that chance that is fine but don't say I did not warn you in adavance. It is not recommended to to this at all. I am just trying to make sure you don't ruin your Wii because they are expensive. If it were damaged from trying to alter it wouldn't you be upset if your Wii did not work after you altered it? I sure would. Just buy another Wii or save up until you can get one that supports your game. If you have the money you should do it that way.:) EDIT. Correct me if I am wrong but I know if you are caught you do have to pay a fine for altering your Wii and it does void your waranty. Just trying to help you man because I know you would be upset if your Wii did not work after messing around for something that it was not meant for in the first place.:(:)

Ah okay thnx anyway. But Wii's aren't that expensive, I don't mind for buying a new one. And why would they allowed to catch you? I bought it, the Wii is mine. I'm allowed to do with it whatever I want so...
