XY Will roller skates replace anything?

What sort of little things do you think will change in these games? For example in 1 of the trailer shots it seems the player is skating... Could roller skates replace the bike?

RE: Roller skates ?

The roller skates will replace the bike or the running shoes. It looks interesting and I want to know if they will have their own music like the Bicycle did.

RE: Roller skates ?

I'm hoping the surf animation will change. I much prefer swimming than surfing on a pokemon. Hey, a guy can dream, can he?

I think the roller skates will replace the Running Shoes just because they seem more suited to going fast for a shorter time, rather than the bike which goes faster for longer. Also, an idea I got was that there was a shop -similar to the Bike Shop- that sells roller skates, skateboards etc. and we can choose our mode of transport (maybe only choosing one for a period, eg having the same one for around 2 gyms). Also we get it sooner, I found that getting 3rd gym time is too long a wait.

The player is running through the entire trailer. Unless they've somehow made the running shoes even faster, I think it's safe to say Running Shoes will be in. It's the Bike I'm worried about, though, the Roller Skates will replace that if anything. Roller Skates don't have the same advantages that the Bike has, for instance I don't think they could replace the Acro Bike since bikes are better suited for mountainous terrain than roller skates, so it'd be a bit disappointing if they did since you'd be losing that. But the Roller Skates may be able to do something the Bike can't either, so hopefully we'll get the best of both worlds.

A little off topic but.... Does anyone think they'll bring back a cycling road??
Or maybe a rollerblade-only area with rollerblading trainers??

Skate park area similar to the Sport Domes in Nimbasa? Maybe there could be skateboarders as well?

Exactly, a nice gimmick area to grind. Skateboards (and maybe a skateboarding pokemon?) would be a nice inclusion too.

Skateboard pokemon would suck. You know it. As for the roller blades, I want the bike. They did say the footage isn't final... Also, running animation better change

Funny thing, a beta version of GSC was supposed to include a skateboard. Maybe they brought it back.

I did a little googling about roller skating in France. This may not be significant at all but there's an association called "Pari Roller" and they organize roller skate tours every Friday around Paris to promote roller skating as transportation, leisure, and a social event. It doesn't answer the question of whether or not it will replace anything, but it's an interesting bit of culture.

If it replaces the bike, I feel like people will be upset until the game comes out and then they'll forget they ever complained. It's not the fact that it's a bike that people like, it's the quick transportation method. Roller Skating would be the same with a different animation.

I want to say they'll replace the bike, but they seem too slow to fully replace it. Maybe there's a Mach/Acro Bike thing going on, as Bolt said. My initial thought was that it might be a bit hard to have smooth 3D animations when turning the bike and things, and so they went with skates, but maybe I'm vastly underestimating people.

What if they're introducing roller skates, but not removing anything? Like have running shoes, a bike, and roller skates.

I don't mind roller skates as long as the bike stays. Maybe instead of running shoes running will just be a feature you can have from the beginning?

Roller skates would be cool, but its even harder, especially in 3d roller skating through and on grass, bothe route and wild pokemon grass. It just... Doesn't seem right. Biking maybe would work better.

And on the subject of the person who said that the bike animations would not look good in 3d, you may argue that as well with the walking turns, and also, there is room for them to look way better in 3d, but I guess it depends on what game freak decided.

At any rate, they will probably confirm or deny this at some point in the bearish future so I guess we'll wait and see what happens.

I feel like the roller skates will be a gimmicky way of transport for just around towns/cities. This would also imply large urban areas, bigger than Castelia (in terms of the user's perspective, like the many alleys and streets of Paris). Also, first post from me since April. woot.

I doubt they would get rid of the bike so I'm guessing that roller skates will replace running shoes

No, the trailer actually shows the PC running.

I just re-watched the trailer and yeah you're right the character is running. That doesn't necessarily mean that there will be running shoes in the game but it most likely does so my new guess is they wont be getting rid of the bike or the running shoes and they'll add skates.
