ShadowLugia, The plot is really good (and I really mean it) in Genealogy of the Holy War (FE4) and Thracia 776 (FE5). After those games, the series main developer left Intelligent Systems and none of the games have ever since been the same.

Of course, the games have also gotten easier as well since his departure. For the best possible compromise, Path of Radiance (FE9) has a pretty interesting plot, and it was one of the first games that let you pick a difficult level. It's probably my most favorite in the series, so check it out if you're at all interested.

ShadowLugia, The series itself is kinda interesting. There are 12 games in it, but two are remakes. So there are really only 10 unique games. It's a strategy RPG and it plays out kinda like chess.

This guy has Let's Plays for 5 of the 10 games, if you're interested.

ShadowLugia, The plots rarely change for international release, if any. The new one is more of a Fire Emblem All-Stars edition in that it references the past 12 games with it, whether its through references in text, remixed music or downloadable characters. From what I've heard, it's easily the best game in the series.

ShadowLugia, I remember discovering those. Tis a wonderful thing they are. :]

If you can, play the Japanese ones first. If you can get the translation patch, they're wonderful games with some of the highest depth I've seen in an RPG (which isn't very much).
