RE: A Pokémon Timeline. Lt. Surge doesn't have a Mew. Or a Ghastly. And just because Raichu was discovered there, doesn't mean he caught his there. They make real world references all the time. Parasect (or Paras. Not sure) 's mushrooms are sold in China. There's no China in the Pokémon world.

RE: A Pokémon Timeline. True, however, just because it's a real world reference, that doesn't mean that it didn't happen in the game. He specifically states there was a war. You can't get around that.

RE: A Pokémon Timeline. Okay. It's mainly out of Gen 1 that the theory started. For one, Lt. Surge says "These electric Pokémon saved my life in the war" if that isn't an indicator that there was a war, I don't know what is. Another thing is the lack of middle aged men. Lt. Surge, the sailors...
