(1) Dragon-Types To Be Introduced to the TCG with 'Dragon Selection!!' [10/25]

Well this is big news. I presume dragon type will have a dragon type weakness. Nothing else really makes sense. And that will mean dragons will be hard to counter. On a related note, I always though it was weird in the TCG that garchomp is weak to bidoof...

I think when the Dragon-type card makes its debut next year, I predict that its weakness will be Dragon x2, and it's second element will determine whether or not it has a Resistance (for example, if one of them was Stage 2 Pokémon Kingdra, it could have weakness: Dragon x2, resistance: fire -20 (due to it taking 1/4 damage from Fire types in the games.) or none at all)

I counted how many Dragon, Darkness, and Steel types that are out right now and I came up with a total of 29 Dragon, 36 Dark, and 35 Steel (That's including Genesect). 29 for one type isn't that bad, when Dark and Steel were first introduced we only had Murkrow, Sneasel, Steelix, and Scizor, which explains why they made only special dark and steel energies. It wasn't until they made a bunch of new steel and dark pokemon and changed some of the older pokemon to those types that we got basic dark and steel. It's also possible that they are thinking of creating a lot of dragon types for Gen 6 but that won't be for a while.

First I thought was about their colour. Dark blue anyone?
For me, it doesn't make sense these change. On B&W pure Dragons are given Colorless type but no Weakness, like long ago. But a new type, just after those dragons came out? I think it is unlikely, but whtever, let's see what we get.
PD: Weakness: Dragon. Resistance:none. Pretty sure about this xD

You need to factor in evolution lines and legendary status. When they're in a pinch for representation, Dark and Steel have a number of very simple Basic or Basic/Stage 1 lines that can be thrown in at a moment's notice, and aren't legendaries or pseudo-legendaries that would necessarily command immediate attention as the focus of a set. Dragon's closest equivalent is really just Druddigon, and to an extent Altaria, Kingdra, and Vibrava/Flygon. They do have a decent number of pseudo-legendary lines to rotate through, but even then the potential for reprint fatigue (I recall a sort of reprint fatigue with Magnezone, and that was even with Ampharos', Luxray's, and to an extent Electivire's options as Electric B/S1/S2 lines) is still there.

It'd also be possible the Dragon-type wouldn't always be represented -- not every set has had Dark or Steel representation, but they usually come back with a vengeance in the next set. My point is it's somewhat apples and oranges, because while most other types have a number of really simple lines to stick in to fill a quota without batting an eye, Dragon's options, while workable, are more limited. More traditional circumstances have usually meant that you can't put something like a Rayquaza in a set without making him somewhat the focus of it.

Wow. That's a huge dicision, adding Dragon Types to the TCG. I hope it makes the game better, not worse and completely breaking the metagame (not just making awesome new decks with dragons, but just making them completely dominate so they are the only things run).

Now, if they want to make things even better, 3 sets later they need to introduce Bug Types (to finally end the {P} or {G} question), and Ghost types (to distingush them from Psychic).

This is great. I'm calling {W} and {F} for weakness and resistance. I'm glad we are seeing new types. All we need now are Ice and Poisen.

Why did they take many years to do this is beyond me. But this will be interesting. Are you going to get Basic and Special Dragon Energies, or just one kind (Basic or Special)?

I don't know about everyone else, but I think that this is awesome! Dragon has long since been my favorite type, and I have always wished that the dragons would get some glory as their own card type. As for impact on the metagame, I don't think that you can judge based just on the type. It all depends if they actually make any really good dragon-types, but other then that I don't think it should mess up the game too much. I also think that dragons will be weak to other dragons (due to the fact that they were weak to colorless before), so weakness shouldn't upset any balance type-wise.
Oh well, we'll just have to wait and see. But from my point of view, dragons will be nothing but awesome.
P.S. I started freaking out when I saw this. Dragons FTW.

I wonder if Zekrom, Reshiram, Dialga, and Palkia will be in the set as Dragon types....

Z and R would be on the packets if they were, as they're too marketable at the moment to not be on show.

In fact, I'm actually surprised that (it looks like) they're giving them a rest and not doing that.

Well Charizard is a fire starter. So if he were Dragon-type it would have to be Fire/Dragon.

Fire / Dragon with the "Levitate" ability similar to Flygon. haha

*Jaw hits floor* ....WHAAT??!!

A D-d-d-d-DRAGON TYPE??!! 8O That's CRAYZ, but REALLY cool! :D Seems like there are plenty of Pokémon they could cast under this new Type. Let's hope they include Basic Energy and some interesting Dragon themed Item cards (probably not though, on the later).

I'm voting on Orange or Teal for the color and the Type symbol will definitely be a Dragon claw, very similar to the on-screen graphic of the Dragon Claw attack from the video game.

On a fanboy sidenote: I would love to see a skeletal designed Pokemon in the next Gen!!

EPIC! Can't wait for all this stuff to be revealed! Will there be basic Dragon energies? Which pokemon will fall under this type? This is great.

This is what I'm guessing Dragon type will look like. (Color is gold)
Special Dragon Energy Card: "Flip 2 coins. If either/both of them are tails this attack fails."

Dark energy already increases attacks, Steel energy already increases defense.... so it was difficult to guess what dragon energy could do...

First, I look at dragon type attacks. Technically there are only 13 of them in the game, mostly all called "Dragon Something". In the tcg however, there are many many many dragon type attacks and attacks with "dragon" in the name. Most of them have one thing in common.

If you flip 2 coins and either one is tails... your attack fails...
Sometime it says both have to be tails for it to fail..

Even though most dragon type attacks are one hundred percent accurate, this is what I expect from the dragon type.
Broken attacks, with broken HP, and an insane downside that can only be decided on a coin flip.

I haven't read all the post, so dont shoot be if someone already suggested this....

but perhaps 'dragon' isn't going to be a COLOR, but a mechanic. Like Legends or EX or Lv. X. Kinda like MTG has 'flying, haste, and shadow, ect.

Just a thought.

I know that it's fun to hope, but please, look at the reality...as much as we may want it, we're not getting a Dragon type.

Ah ha. Irony. Loooove it.

I'm really interested in this. It could end up being a very good gimmick that's being introduced that's neither too powerful nor terrible at the same time. I have to pray for Gyarados even though the odds are severely stacked against me.

dmaster out.

I'm rooting for you.

I think I may enter the contest to create the energy, it seems like it could be a fun project.
