The 6th generation of Pokémon is about to unfold!

Or it could be remakes. :3 We don't know either way.

You keep dogmatically preaching that we are getting remakes. Aside from saying that it is "too early" for a Gen VI game (that is false, see the time between early Generations for proof), what is your evidence that 2013 will bring us remakes? So far, you've given nothing but your opinion. I'd like to see what you based that opinion on. Clearly, with a username like yours, you are a fan of remake games. I am too. But, given Nintendo's current hardware situation, I don't see a remake coming. Prove me otherwise. I'd love to finally experience the nostalgia of playing my first Pokemon game (Ruby) on new technology (the Nintendo 3DS). But I fear that I have a year or more wait ahead of me.

Obviously none of us know what the actual announcement will be, but at least many others and I have provided concrete evidence that points to a Generation VI.

Its not just my opinion (Granted that is a factor) but also logic. You really think there's been 0 hints to R/S remakes? I was watching a 3 part series on YouTube about all the hints that B/W1 and B/W2 gave us that point to us getting Ruby and Sapphire remakes. I will openly admit that some of the points the person brought up are very weak, but some do hold some water.

For example; some of Hoenn's music can be found in the Generation V games (Lillycove and Rustboro specifically). Why include R/S music out of all the games they have to pick from? Why not Kanto? That's where Pokemon began so its music would make more of an impact, would it not? We all know the beeps and bloops from Lavender Town, yet they weren't thinking of anything about Kanto, Johto, or even Sinnoh. Nope, they gave us music from Hoenn.

Not to mention all the focus that the weather trio has been receiving as of late. The Dream World houses had received Groudon, Kyogre, and Rayquaza plush dolls recently and its kind of curious why GameFreak would promote those 3 if they weren't going to be a focal point of Pokemon soon.

There's also the fact that some Hoenn legendaries have been in B2/W2. You may say that nullifies the possibility of Ruby and Sapphire remakes but recall Platinum, it had the Kanto birds yet those birds still found their way into HeartGold and SoulSilver merely a year later. So no, Hoenn legendaries being in Black 2 and White 2 does not signify that Hoenn won't be remade, in fact its quite the opposite.

Also remember at the end of the Hoenn series for the anime May said she was traveling to Johto to compete in Pokemon Contests there. Sure, it was a few years later, but we got Johto remakes. Now remember where Dawn said she was going to? Hoenn. Why not follow in May's footsteps whom she became friends with and go to Johto herself? Why Hoenn? Possibly because this is a hint that Hoenn will be important to fans. Maybe not in the anime (we didn't see May in Johto), but for the games. You'd be silly to think that the Anime writing staff doesn't receive tidbits from GameFreak so they know what to do with the anime.

All in all, so much attention has been panned over to Hoenn lately and I doubt its a mere coincidence. There's got to be a reason for it. I know everyone and their grandmas will say you can do Gen IV -> Gen V transfers to get all the Pokemon, but that's only how fans think. That is not how a business thinks. I haven't taken any business classes and I know this. Its common sense, businesses will only promote what makes them money.

The Gen IV -> Gen V transfer is just tacked on like most of the multiplayer in todays FPSes. Its just there to say its there, but its not what its focused on. GameFreak won't care if you can do that transfer, they'll try to sell you more games to get them without relying on those methods.

I have to say, some of these arguments are actually good. Who knows? Emerald was my 1st game and I'd love to see it in 3D. But as I've said before, there is one thing that bugs me. Could the first main series game for the 3DS that is part of a franchise as big as Pokemon be a remake?

Possibly, I mean yeah I see how it would be kind of...off putting in a way. I do agree with that sentiment, but its not like they've not done crazier (and in some people's eyes, stupider) things before.

you bring up some really interesting points SoulSilver and I agree with a lot of them, also you're right in saying that Pokemon has done some really stupid things before. But I feel that the 3ds is going to be reserved for the 6th gen, not the Remakes. However I think that it's a real possibility that the 6th gen would incorporate Hoenn somehow, most likely it'll be like HG/SS where you were so close to the region that you could travel there (on a boat or something) and that would bring Hoenn into the mix, while satisfying many people on both sides.

Of course, I still think that we're more likely to get remakes than a new Generation, but we'll see.

There was actually another really big hint that BW2 gave that pointed towards RS remakes. :) I talk to every NPC in the game, and when I went to get the Diamond Dust medal on New Years Eve, I went to the house that was previously blocked because of the lack of snow.

Inside, one NPC says: "We were going to make more land, but we realized it would cause problems for Pokemon living in the sea... Oh! Don't tell my girlfriend!"
The other says: "We tried to expand the ocean, but then there would be fewer Pokemon that live on land. That might make the Pokemon in the ocean sad... Oh! This is a secret from my darling boyfriend!

They're ex Team Aqua/Magma grunts. I think this is the first time since Emerald that anything in that storyline has been mentioned as far as I remember. This is probably the biggest hint the game gave.
Not only do I think there will be remakes though, I think they will be direct sequels. Obviously the grunts in the house were talking about what already happened in the past, and also if you remember in BW, that same house also had an ex Team Rocket member, the very same one that talked funny and stole the item from the power plant in HGSS (bye-bye a go-go should ring a bell.) That being said, I don't think they would backtrack to the time RS was set in, because then it would mean they couldn't include any BW characters.

I also think they will be sequels because that is what will obviously interest the fanbase the most even more than simple remakes, and GameFreak probably knows that. I also think they want to catch us by surprise again and do something different, everyone is expecting RS remakes or gen 6, but few are expecting RS sequels.

Of course it's all speculation. The main thing I stand by is the hint that house in Iccirus city holds.

North America's Pokemon Twitter account posted the same message.
I'm sure doubts that people have about this not baing a MAJOR announcement are pretty much gone now.

I actually welcome Ruby 2 and Sapphire 2 if it were to be real Zielo, this would probably mean new transformations for a few of the Gen 3 Pokemon. If it's true then it's even possible Deoxys in Speed form could make an appearance in Godspeed Genesect, but this of course may he a bit of a stretch.

Big News on USA Pokemon site

The American Pokemon site also says to "Check back in 4 days for major news"

**this would put this announcement at the same time as the Japanese one - so this definitely IS major news

You know, now that I think of it, I don't think there have been any mentions of the gen 3 legendaries in movies or the anime since their time. How interesting would it be to see one star in the next upcoming Genesect movie?
Deoxys sounds ideal. I can also see the regis or the latis.

Doubts of it not being a major announcement are absolutely gone now. On the main site:

Has anyone ever put any merit into the idea that maybe the big news is just simply the end of pokemon? Considering they have been rushing all the gen vi legendaries and are promoting the movie like crazy. Maybe they are just trying to tie up loose ends by giving people the chance to get all the pokemon with bw2 and are planning to shut it down. They made their money theyre getting old they mist be getting tired. But do not get me wrong, i am a die hard pokemon fan i am just presenting the glass half-empty argument.

Have you heard that the Wii U Zelda will be the end of the franchise? And New Super Mario Bros. U was the end of Mario! :O

I'm really hoping that it's a handheld game and not for the wii u. I don't need a wii u yet, and I don't plan on buying one soon! In addition, a tcg announcement might be cool, but I highly doubt it

There is probably a 0% chance that the major announcement is the end of Pokemon.
No way in hell it's ending anytime soon, not with the revenue it brings.

I don't think it's going to be a Wii U game, I'm almost certain it's most likely for the 3DS.
Does GameFreak even make console games?

Weren't they the ones who made Colosseum and Gale of Darkness?

Why would it be the end of Pokémon? Pokémon, Legend of Zelda and Super Mario are Nintendo's best franchises. Closing down one of them would be a big mistake.
