Has anyone ever put any merit into the idea that maybe the big news is just simply the end of pokemon? Considering they have been rushing all the gen vi legendaries and are promoting the movie like crazy. Maybe they are just trying to tie up loose ends by giving people the chance to get all the pokemon with bw2 and are planning to shut it down. They made their money theyre getting old they mist be getting tired. But do not get me wrong, i am a die hard pokemon fan i am just presenting the glass half-empty argument.

they wouldn't really be able to "end pokemon" for a couple of years anyways, the TCG is alive and strong plus it would take a couple years for them to stop printing cards and rotating out sets, not to mention that if they just ended P!P they would have an army of angry people who are going to nats/worlds (the top 4 in the last worlds have already been promised a trip to this years worlds anyways, so pokemon wont die for at least another year, and that's a worst case scenario situation...)

If GameFreak intents to shut down Pokemon one day (what they probably only consider if the games don't leave a profit and almost nobody cares about Pokemon anymore) they will do it with a short press release or something similar.
What they are doing now seems more like creating a new hype with announcements here and there that would much more match a new gen or consequently new main games.

Why would they make such a huge build up that would evidently make fans excited all over to world just 4 days before and then tell us Pokemon is ending? That would be ridiculous, I've also read of new titles coming onto the 3DS and a bright future for Pokemon. Why would they stop without having any main games on their newest and prestigious Handheld, at first I thought what if it's ending but I just don't see that happening... not yet anyway given all the circumstances. Besides Pokemon, along with Mario & Zelda are the leading franchise in Nintendo, it would be illogical to stop yet.

Pokemon are not ending. Even if you hear such an announcement, don't believe it. It will be a commercial trick 95%.
As others have stated, the news are most probably about a 3DS game or generally handheld related, since Game Freak doesn't develop console games. There is still the chance of a TCG announcement, but I doubt it. When was the last time a TCG announcement drew so much attention?

As both BW2 commercial and Pokemon.com mention January 8th to reveal "major news" - is there any chance that Morimoto will say anything concrete about these news on Pokemon Smash on Sunday?
I worry that he will just appear shortly before the end of the show and state that there are REALLY REALLY EXCITING NEWS two days later so that truly everyone gets it. If he presents the silhouette of a new pokemon or even announces new games then January 8th news won't come as real surprise. Furthermore Junichi Masuda will appear on an episode of Pokemon Smash soon as he stated that his scenes were recorded in December, so its unlikely that Morimoto will forestall Masuda in terms of explaining whatever is worth to putting everyone in a flurry.

The last time they did something like this was when they unveiled Reshiram & Zekrom.

"About an hour ago, the official Japanese Pokemon website and Pokemon.com simultaneously revealed the Legendary mascots of Pokemon Black and White: they are to be named Reshiram (レシラム) and Zekrom (ゼクロム) for both the English and Japanese games."

It could be something similar with either Gen VI or Remakes.

Exciting stuff! Though, it feels a bit weird the non-Japanese parts of the franchise will also be making the huge announcement despite the fact non-Japanese players have yet to receive Meloetta... Bring on even more Pokémon while you haven't finished giving out the previous Generation's Pokémon? Yeah, not happy about that... Anyway, that's a minor issue compared to how awesome this news will (or should?) be.

Probably Morimoto announces a silhouette while Masuda anounces the games.
Let's hope so. Otherwise anime rerun and battles between costumed hosts and school kids are hard to take. But i didn't read any announcements by Pokemon Smash about anything interesting in the show so far. Usually they do so when they have (or pretend to have) news concerning the games or the movies - and going to reveal the silhouette of a new Pokemon would be a very good reason for some self-promotion.

Haven't they done this before, or am I thinking of something else?

Seriously? The Announcement will not just be made in Japan, it's gonna be worldwide. Something this big has got to be the announcement of the new generation. Like WPM pointed out, last time this happened, they revealed Reshiram and Zekrom. Some people are still hoping for 3rd gen remakes or side games. Do you want to compare remakes or side games with the arrival of the next gen of Pokémon for this type of announcement? Please...

Early confirmation that the announcement is the end of Pokemon. The franchise has run its course according to Masuda and they feel that it would be wise to end the series before it gets stale. They are releasing a final set of Pokemon games and it will take place in a new region with the opportunity to visit one of the 5 previous regions apparently. Not much else is revealed other than that. What a shame :/

And your proof is where?

With it being worldwide makes me think that it will be a silhouette of the main legendaries or a completely new mechanic being introduced.

Are you sure, or you're just playing games? This is serious, you know. So where is the evidence?

Unless you have a valid source it's pretty hard to believe you. Why would they end Pokemon if they are "Evolving in 2013"

I just really think its too early for Gen 6.

Did you consider that the games would come out late 2013 at most?
That will be pretty much close to average, especially when gen V was doomed from the beginning to never get the chance to be dragged out a bit with remake-stuff.
I mean, when they decided to continue on DS instead of waiting on 3DS for BW, they were obviously fully aware the generation would be shorter and so planned it as such.

Its still gonna be the gen to take the longest to come out after its handheld.

You really think there's been 0 hints to R/S remakes?

Yes. There is nothing that stands out from the casual references that we always get as the games take place in the same fictional universe.

For example; some of Hoenn's music can be found in the Generation V games (Lillycove and Rustboro specifically). Why include R/S music out of all the games they have to pick from? Why not Kanto? That's where Pokemon began so its music would make more of an impact, would it not? We all know the beeps and bloops from Lavender Town, yet they weren't thinking of anything about Kanto, Johto, or even Sinnoh. Nope, they gave us music from Hoenn.

Johto music could be found in RSE, so what. And those didn't even get used for Sevii islands in FRLG or anything, so this has never been anywhere close to an argument.

Not to mention all the focus that the weather trio has been receiving as of late. The Dream World houses had received Groudon, Kyogre, and Rayquaza plush dolls recently and its kind of curious why GameFreak would promote those 3 if they weren't going to be a focal point of Pokemon soon.

There was a 10 year anniversary of RS game release in Japan. They always do at least some event. Besides if they planned anything related to Hoenn anytime soon, THAT would have been the best occasion to announce developement.

They released a special Mewtwo last year for no serious reason, and obviously no one started suggesting anything about game developement.

In fact the legendaries being given out as events would be the thing they would avoid doing if they were going to be the mascots of upcoming games. Just look back at pre-HGSS times. They treated Ho-oh and Lugia like they never existed so it was a bigger impact when the remakes got revealed.

There's also the fact that some Hoenn legendaries have been in B2/W2. You may say that nullifies the possibility of Ruby and Sapphire remakes but recall Platinum, it had the Kanto birds yet those birds still found their way into HeartGold and SoulSilver merely a year later. So no, Hoenn legendaries being in Black 2 and White 2 does not signify that Hoenn won't be remade, in fact its quite the opposite.

You're making a strawman here.
Because the casual legends (580/600TBS) are known to be thrown around into random postgames with no careful plan, but rather for the "extra legendary" effect when they aren't native already.

We could however discuss the actual mascots (~680), and about which of them haven't been available for the longest time for example. Although that doesn't help your point.

Also remember at the end of the Hoenn series for the anime May said she was traveling to Johto to compete in Pokemon Contests there. Sure, it was a few years later, but we got Johto remakes. Now remember where Dawn said she was going to? Hoenn. Why not follow in May's footsteps whom she became friends with and go to Johto herself? Why Hoenn? Possibly because this is a hint that Hoenn will be important to fans. Maybe not in the anime (we didn't see May in Johto), but for the games. You'd be silly to think that the Anime writing staff doesn't receive tidbits from GameFreak so they know what to do with the anime.

I'm not even sure they knew about gamefreak developing GS remakes when they made May travel to Johto. She just went there.
They just didn't have that many choices did they. Shes just been in Hoenn, the group went to Kanto, so they had the choice between saying she went to some "distant land" or to Johto. Therefore GS remakes??
Then Dawn went to Hoenn. Years ago.
This is not a hint at future games, its called referencing stuff thats known to exist in the same fictional universe.

I knew GS remakes would come. But not because of whatever the Anime did.
Rather because there were SOLID reasons to believe that.

All in all, so much attention has been panned over to Hoenn lately and I doubt its a mere coincidence. There's got to be a reason for it. I know everyone and their grandmas will say you can do Gen IV -> Gen V transfers to get all the Pokemon, but that's only how fans think. That is not how a business thinks. I haven't taken any business classes and I know this. Its common sense, businesses will only promote what makes them money.

And you know RS remakes at this point would be better profit for gamefreak than "insert anything else" based on what?
I can just as well argue gen VI would sell better, until either of us makes surveys in japan or something.
But that aside, you're ignoring that the "RSE-nostalgia cash-cow" is not gonna go away if they don't milk it this instant. For all we know, the demand will be even higher after gen VI, especially if they start throwing around ACTUAL hints IN gen VI games and marketing.
