Okay, how about the Squirtle line? He evolves into Wartortle, grows ears and a fluffy tail then promptly loses both in favor of cannons.

The Chickorita line is a better example. The leaf evolves up until the final stage, and is replaced completely by antenna. It really wouldnt be the first time a Pokemon has lost it's signature "look" in evolution. It's disappointing, yes, but it happens. I really like the bubble theme the Froakie line has/had and I'm hoping for it to remain on the final.

And Blaziken simply defy all the possibility of evolution from Combusken/Torchic, but that's why Blaziken looks cool. Personally i love it when the final stage evo is completely different from our expectations, as long as it's in a good way.

Gotta have to agree with this one.

I'm pretty sure Charizard grew wings out of no where for that matter too.
Although, I'm fairly sure 1st gen isn't a good gen to reference for starter trends. It was the start of pokemon, after all.

OK upon further inspection I still hate Greninja... It doesn't look like an evo of Frogadier. Where's the white nose? Did it extend to its... What are those? Ears? Antennae? And what the crap is around his neck? His tongue? And where's the foam collar? Also note he has NO fighting moves pointing to the fact he is not Fighting type. I just have so much hate for this thing. Please dear Lord let it be fake...

Gallantoad would have been a perfect starter. Greninja makes me question the sanity of whoever created it and whoever truly likes it.

I don't know why you guy hate Greninja so much.
I mean, he is a freaking Ninja-frog. That is awesome.
And being Mexican I really like Hawlucha (even if hate the "sport" it is based on).

And... I really hate Binacle with a burning passion. The more I stare at him, the more I hate it.
