(2) BW8 Scans and Translations, Plasma Storm Cards [12/12]

Ok i think i misread your post, because i know they didnt have one before the 2009 season.
however, in 2010 they rotated out 4 sets and in the spring they rotated out another like 7 or 8, so thats 12 sets in one year.

Ok, so, forget what I said about the shinies in this set being not as cool. <3 Shiny Sigilyph

yeah... looking back I posted "the season before that they didn't have a rotation" which wasn't what I meant to say and probably lead to this misunderstanding >.< sorry...

About the translations... The Zekrom and Reshiram cards say Cross Thunder and Cross Flame, which, if I'm not wrong, are the jap names of Fusion Bolt and Fusion Flare, so why not put the English names instead?

Anyway, I really like this set. It's not just full of Plasma pokémon, it also has a lot of older pokémon that were still missing in the BW era. Really nice to see an old card like Super Energy Retrieval back again. Also, I was expecting Kingdra to be featured as a Dragon-type, so good.

btw,
Obvious combo of the set: Seismitoad + Mr. Mime...

Also, Kingdra + BlackKyurem-EX (battle strength deck) + Blastoise... Discard tons of energy with Black Ballista and then attack with Kingdra (kinda in the same style of Feraligatr from NG)... Probably not very good, but still...

Seismitoad and Mime is cool, sure, but when everybody starts teching a Mime themselves (a good idea given the power of Darkrai, Landy, Raikou, and other spreaders) then you have a problem.

mime is an interesting card, I expect it to be useful, but for some reason I feel that he'll be underplayed because Raikou and landy should see less play come nats... (I'm not 100% but still I just have a feeling the mime isn't going to be that good) don't get me wrong, he seems to be a really strong rogue concept, but I think he would be a lot better if he could be paired with something like.... trainer lock....

My first concern about the expansion is this: how is there NO Swampert? Apparently that makes Swampert the last starter to be released as a card from BW (excluding the HGSS starters), and seeing as it's my favourite starter I was terribly disappointed in TPCi for ignoring it. I hope it will be a Plasma Pokemon in BW9, and it better be better than Blaziken and not worse than Sceptile.

Back to the actual thing, here are actually a lot of playable cards in this set, and those that stand a chance of having real usage are really amazing. My focus is on Latias and Kingdra, for reasons unknown. Plasma decks also got a huge boost with Metagross, Umbreon and Glaceon. Metagross' Ability means that it can stream Plasma Pokemon, which is highly beneficial. However, Plasma Pokemon are usually the final evolution. As for the 2 Eeveelutions, they can support with more HP and lesser/no retreat for the Active. There are more threats in the expansion, and these here aren't the only one.

Dammit, I'm gonna have to wait 3 months. Does TPCi not like Mudkips?

I feel your pain. It's kind of annoying too since the 2 remaining Kanto starters were in BW6 and the 2 remaining Sinnoh starters were in BW7. Maybe they plan on releasing it alongside Typhlosion with Meganium and Feraligatr a set or two later? idk.

Agreed. I like that many pokemon debuted in the BW era with this set.

I think Weavile/Eggs is even MORE obvious than Seismitoad/Mr.Mime

and @ TPM
Haha its alright, I just knew I wasn't wrong, but you weren't wrong either, it was just simple miscommunication.

I think there's a lot of cards in this set with potential. Exeggute, Mr. Mime, Cryogonal, most of the Eeveelutions, Chendelure, Kecleon, Electrode, Weavile, Raticate, Kingdra, Life Essence, Latias EX. And then there's cards that I know will be good, like Metagross, Float Stone, Ghetsis, Frozen City, Team Plasma's Poke Ball (we need to come up with an abbreviation for that) Tornadus T EX, Thundurus EX, Deoxys EX, and Cofagrigus.

I think Float Stone is an amazing card. It may make stuff like Emboar playable again (Heatran also helps this statement out a bit). This thing on a Keldeo EX is so good.

Exeggute seems insane, being able to use them to discard for stuff like Ultra Ball is just ridiculous.

I think Tornadus T EX will become a staple in a lot of decks.

Kecleon seems like a really good Mewtwo counter. If only it worked with Aspertia...

The number of Shinies in these sets are absurd. 4 seemed a bit overkill to me. 14 secret rares in total...

Why are there so few Ace Specs? Will you automatically get both of them in 1 box? Or will there pull rate go down?

I think this set is really good. It has a lot of cards that are playable, but not broken, and a lot of them are evolutions. They will all probably see no play...

Also, why does the Kyurem in this set have basically a better version of Kyurem EX's attack?

No to Tornadus. Since it just becomes a Sitting duck that'll end up costing you 2 prizes later. It is not as good as say cleffa since it costs energy and doesn't grant you any immunities like Cleffa could.

Cleffa was (almost) always a easy prize for Yanmega, and Lightning isn't that big of a type. So if you're already attacking with EX's, he probably won't be free prizes.

Also, we don't have amazing draw support right now, no Pokemon really adds consistency right now. Even with Colress and Ghetsis in this format, our draw support still isn't that great. It also can help against the dead hands that N and Ghetsis and Magnezone/Hooligans give you.

Just you watch. Zekrom is going to become big again.
...And if no one else makes that happen, I will.

It probably will (I'm not being sarcastic at all, I seriously think it will). But one deck isn't going to be an issue. If you face Eels, don't bench Tornadus, it's as simple as that. Other then Thundurus EX (which will probably only be used in a few decks), there's next to no other Lightning types, meaning Tornadus is useful in almost every other match up. I really hate that logic that one deck will ruin a cards playability. Garchomp didn't make RayEels unplayable.
