Hard-fought battle by both teams, but after the arrogant antics the back up goalie pulled, I dislike the Netherlands even more... too bad a loss for the Dutch means a win for the Argentinians...

Brazil is not just my team, but also the only remaining team I like lol

Krul and Robben can f*** off. The Netherlands keep advancing on cheap tricks and diving.

Lol. I don't know how anyone can like that team, as long as Krul and Robben are on it.

Hey, I don't like our team either. I hope nobody thinks all Dutch are like that, I've gotten remarks about it though >.>

Please don't do Germany vs Netherlands. Even the next match is going to be a disaster because our current queen is from Argentina.

No, I don't have a problem with the Dutch, just Robben and now Krul. I like Sneijder and Van Persie, and am indifferent about the rest of the team.

Edit: Oh yeah, forgot about Kuyt. He reminds me of the weird dude from the Goonies lol...

Well, nice match, TBH. Amazing plays from both teams, some acting and flopping from Robben and FIFA not caring... But can't be more proud of Costa Rica's team. They leave the Cup undefeated and in the big door. Now, Costa Rica won't be known as "the Cinderella from CONCACAF". We've proved that they're at the level of the biggest teams, and won't stop there! VIVA COSTA RICA!!! :D

Well, the semis are set.

Brazil v. Germany (rematch of the 2002 FIFA WC Final)
Argentina vs. Netherlands (rematch of the 1978 WC Final)

Brazil vs Argentina or Germany vs Netherlands would both be pretty tasty finals, but I fear if two rivals face each other then they may well end up kicking lumps out of each other. I've given it some thought and come to the conclusion that a Germany vs Argentina final could well be great. I think the best overall team so far has been Germany, and to see the best team against the best individual in the tournament in Messi (bar maybe James Rodriguez) would make for a good contest.

I seriously can't understand the hate of most people towards the Netherlands.
The team in no way did advance against Costa Rica thanks to flops... Neither did the ref make more than one or two wrong calls, something that every ref does. Nor did the linesman forget about offsides. The Netherlands simply played better throughout the match. Costa Rica pulled an amazing defensive play backed by a very skilled goalkeeper, and as such they managed to get to penalties, but they were poor offensively and I can't see where they were treated unfair. Krul did what he was supposed to do, and his antics were nothing compared to those of Navas, who, with all his skill as a goalkeeper, acted like injured, walked around like there was a whole lifetime ahead and generally delayed the match in any possible way against both Greece and the Netherlands. Robben made some impressive dives, but that doesn't mean there wasn't a foul where he made them. Plus, he played an amazing match. Costa Rica wasn't as strong as the Netherlands, and that was evident yesterday. They did what they could, and took the game in the only scenario where there was a possibility to win: penalties. And they lost. Simple as that. No flops, no antics, no bad refs. And while I understand why Costa Rica played like they played and I respect their style, it doesn't change the fact that it kinda kills football...
I'm hoping for a Brazil vs Netherlands final, although that seems kinda hard. The Netherlands can certainly defeat Argentina, but Brazil without Silva and Neymar will find themselves with their backs against the wall... remains to be seen.

While I can understand why it might be seen as unsportsmanlike of Krul to do what he did in confronting the Costa Rican penalty takers, you can't deny that his tactics in psyching out the opposition came off. Well, presumably they did seeing as he went the right way for each penalty and made the decisive saves in the end. Some people saw van Gaal's decision as a brave one, but really it was quite logical given Krul's height and I'm sure that both he and Cillesen were aware and prepared for that eventuality.

...Robben? Krul doesn't make things better either...

I doubt it. Costa Rica isn't exactly know for their penalty shooting. Krul is good at blocking penalty kicks, he would've probably gotten those two stops anyways without being arrogant about it. I'm ok with trash talk (heck, I do it frequently in basketball and football myself), but Idk if it's ok to do it during a penalty shootout, in front of everyone... sorta like you don't talk trash to the opposing player when he's at the free throw line in basketball.

This sort of thing is planned so meticulously though. I'm sure what little data there was on the Costa Rican penalty takers was studied beforehand and conveyed to Krul before the shoot-out, likewise for Navas although it didn't do him any favours in the end. In that situation you have to do all that you can to win I think, when it comes down to it, regardless of what people might say about it afterwards. Who knows, it may or may not have made a difference but you have to gain any advantage you can get.

Unfortunately, I won't be able to watch the Germany v Brazil game tomorrow, as I will be on a red eye flight to Beijing. I might be able to catch the last few minutes, if there is a tv screen in the terminal. Fingers crossed!

I'm really hoping for Germany and Netherlands wins and advancement into the final. I will be happy if either wins the WC, as they both deserve it, but I'm slightly in favor of Germany. I do think that Germany had a better team 2 years ago, but they are still top of the line. I really want to see another Klose goal! I would have loved to have seen more of Podolski. The Netherlands also deserve a win, despite their "controversy." Robben is an amazing player and is so much fun to watch, unless you are an anti-fan. I can't believe that he's only 30. I feel like I've been watching him forever. I'm glad to see Kuyt starting again. If Brazil wins, it might be okay. They are the host team, and it would make for a great story. As for Argentina, I haven't been impressed. They are just blah to me.

As for Krul, he only did what many goalkeepers do. This is nothing new. If you're going to hate on him for psyching out the players, then you should hate on all the goalkeepers that do it. I don't personally like it when goalkeepers confront a player as they are about to take a penalty, but that is mainly because I find it funny and ridiculous. I'm more worried about the keepers coming off their goal line during a penalty -- I've seen a few incidents of this at this WC that have not been called or were questionable.

My thoughts on the upcoming semi-finals:
Brazil vs Germany - Certainly the youngest test yet for Brazil, not just in terms of their opposition but also the absences of both Neymar and Thiago Silva. Hard to see where the goals could come from for Brazil without Neymar and any team would miss one of the best central defenders around in Silva. Germany haven't been amazing by any means but they've churned out the results as expected, looked a little shaky against Ghana and Algeria though. Still think this will be a close match however, on paper Germany ought to win I think, but Brazil will be desperate to reach the final on home ground.

Netherlands vs Argentina - I've really enjoyed seeing the Netherlands play so far in this tournament, so I'm eagerly anticipating this match. So far Argentina have avoided the bigger sides in this tournament and have had difficulties against teams that would be seen as lesser opponents so it's hard to call how they'll fare against a strong Dutch side. There's always the Messi factor though, and if he is at his devastating best then he could almost singlehandedly carry Argentina to victory. I don't really have much to say about the Netherlands because they've been pretty good throughout, no real hiccups en route to the semi finals, I'm interested to see whether they play a 433 or 532 system though.

I can say with confidence:

The winner of Argentina vs Natherlands will win the tourney, with the lose getting third.

Oh my, this isn't a match anymore. Twenty-six minutes in and Brazil is getting slaughtered..

Unbelievable...Germany 4-0 up 25 minutes in. I thought Brazil would struggle but this is unprecedented.

Khedira makes it 5. This is getting humiliating for Brazil now.

As many of us had predicted (but way worse), Brazil is already in a very tough spot (0-4) against Germany and it's not even 25' in the match. Saying it's impossible for Brazil to win isn't far from truth. The match really turns out to be a Spain vs Netherlands remix... something I'm not happy about, but unfortunately not very surprising. The absences of Silva and Neymar are way too evident.
