5 Gen Competitive Play

I've been using the red X in the corner.

But seriously I haven't really been doing anything extra against them. I've managed to get lucky against them numerous times and have kept them from setting up. I know Pride has been using haze on some teams too.

Inconsistent is really random. Sometimes it will give an SATK boost to something that dosn't need it and an attack drop to something it needs. It can hurt and damenge you. Depends on your luck.

I've got a great topic:

What do you think is the most upgraded Pokemon of Generation 5?
(A Pokemon that didn't have much usage in past generations, but with some new Gen. 5 toys, will become popular?)

Forgive me if this has already been posted.

Cloyster. What with Shell Smash/Break and Icycle Spear having a BP increase he's much more of a threat now.

Ditto has improved by the largest margin, transforming (heh) from the worst Pokemon in the game to a great revenge killer. If we're talking standard Wifi, then perhaps Blaziken, who now enjoys Speed Boost and a 130 base Fighting STAB.

This would probably be better as its own seperate thread though? We should really start filling this forum out more with 5th gen stuff

Here are some of my picks for most improved in Gen. 5:

Ninetales + Politoed: Probably the most obvious ones. Drought and Drizzle are
supercool abilities, and have largely increased in use. Also, they both can
utilize Hypnosis well, and both can be very specially bulky with base 100 Sp.
Defence each.

On the note of weather teams:
SUN
Growth: In the sun, Growth now gives +2 Attack and +2 Sp. Attack. I know,
scary right? So, comboed with Chlorophyll, you can have massive speedy
sweepers in your misdt after ONE turn. Some pokes to watch this combo for:
Venusaur, Tangrowth, Erufuun (?), and Marakacchi.
Rain

Vaporeon- Think of how annoying and bulky WishProtect Vappy was in Gen. 4
Got that picture? Ok, NOW imagine this same Vappy without being hit by any
status conditions. That's what it's like in Gen 5, Vappy got Hydration. yay....

Alrighty then, there's my little blurb about old dogs, new trick in Gen 5. If the
discussion keeps on going, I'll keep posting.

On another note:

For those of you who remember discussing the PassTrap Combo of Aianto and Dugtrio/Shandera (Page 6, Post 81), I think I have found the next awesome possum combo that gets more ragequits than wins :p Here's a log:

PLAYER1 sent out DESUKAN!
PLAYER2 sent out QWILFISH!
The foe's QWILFISH used AQUA TAIL!
DESUKAN's Mummy activated!
The foe's QWILFISH acquired Mummy!
DESUKAN used Mean Look!
The foe's QWILFISH can't escape!

*next turn*

DESUKAN, OK! Come back!
Go! SLAKING!
The foe's QWILFISH used AQUA TAIL!

*next turn*

PLAYER2 withdrew QWILFISH!
SLAKING used Pursuit!
The foe's QWILIFSH's Mummy activated!
SLAKING acquired Mummy!

Oh snap, Slaking with no Truant.

To expand on Bacon's idea, maybe I'll start a couple threads on specific pokemon in Gen 5. Perhaps Roobushin, Shandera, and Voltros?

I guess I could create a thread for this discussion; it's just that I've heard a lot of discussion about how predicting and speculating of the 5th Generation would be a waste of time.

Most upgraded Pokemon in Gen 5?

List :- (Dream World Tier in PO)

Rank 1 = Ditto -
With it's new dream world ability to copy the exact Pokemon AND it's stat upgrades are a big plus. It has now become the metagame's one of the best or the best Revenge Killer along with Choice Scarf. Another thing about Ditto is some run Quick Powder instead of Choice Scarf, which allows them to easily come across a Pokemon who has altered it's speed with a move like DD or Rock Polish and wreck havoc with the ability to change between moves.

Rank 2 = Cloyster -
Shell Smash anyone? Obviously here's an instant threat after one Shell Smash. With Skill Link as the ability and 2 main moves (Icicle Spear and Rock Blast) coupled with Skill Link and +2 Attack after a Shell Smash, it can deal massive amount of damage to any Pokemon which doesn't resist it. Substitute is hopeless against Cloyster. White Herb is a good option because it enables you to switch into a Physical sweeper and set up. Considering Cloyster's hellish 180 Base Defense it normally waves lots of physical attacks. He does have a problem with Pokemon who use a Vacuum Wave. I was unfortunate enough to come across a Lucario who used that the first time I used Cloyster in Gen 5.

Rank 3 = Blaziken -
Speed Boost is one of the best abilities out there and Blaziken is one of the versatile sweepers out there. Great match up. Obviously there are many ways how you can utilize this. Many have the SD + Baton Pass trick up when they put on Blaziken. Some others run a rare mixed set like the way Infernape used to back in 4th gen OU. Blaziken is definitely capable of running a mixed set. Which makes it an unpredictable threat sometimes.

Rank 4 = Politoed, Ninetails -
Now with Drizzle and Drought obviously they are the core of the Rain and Sun weather teams, nothing much said here so.

Rank 5 = Parasect -
Personally I hated this fellow, every rain team used it. The freaking stall set with Spore / Leech Seed / Sub / X-Scissor.
I didn't have a clue to defeat it. I mean it restored a crap load of HP each turn. Only Nattorei is the Pokemon I found effective against seeing that it can't leech seed me. However now I'm abusing it. (If you can't beat them, join them)

---------------------

Hey people!
I've seen Nattorei used very very effectively in Gen 5, but I can't come up with a moveset. Can someone please help me out?

I have a question. Does anyone have any good VGC pokemon? I've Been trying a trick room team on Pokemon Online, but EVERY Team I face has a taunting Erefuun.

Mental Herb cures Taunt now, so stick that on your dude for fun times. Don't know if PO has this implemented, though.

Ditto is far and away the most improved Pokemon of gen 5. When you rise from the depths of NU to OU with some people questioning whether or not he should be made uber--and it's not a troll thread--you know you've gotten some serious improvements.

Ditto should be upped a tier. His new ability could surprise some Pokemon that have moves that could KO them.

I don't think they'll do actual tiering before Black and White are released.
Okay, with the current topic still running, what Pokemon do you guys think will see a lot less usage, due to counters, bad movepool, etc.?

Ditto is extremely good now with Eccentric. Its very painful when it comes in on my LightningRod Zapdos, absorbs the Thunder, gets the boost, and sweeps with HP Ice. Or when my Salamence is at +2 Attack and +2 Speed, Ditto comes in, gains the stat changes, and OHKO's with Dragon Claw. Gosh, I hate him.

As for less usage... Blissey will go down because of the extremely frequent use of Psycho Shock, but it's still an amazing physical beast. The Rotoms will go down a ton, just because they losttheir ability as a spin blocker and gained lots of new weakness and lost immunities. Ninjask will not be used as much due to friend Blaziken gaining Speed Boost and HJK's power being increased to 130. I also think Fake Out leads will go way down due to more usage of bulky leads like Nattorei and Gigaiath.

Agreed with Chillarmy.

Blissey will now be crap cakes to Latios and Latias running Psycho Shock. Also, Mystery Sword Kerudio takes all the life out of Blissey. Still you can't deny ... for Pokemon who only has Sp.Atks which is calculated by Sp.Def. Blissey is still the best.

Also, the Rotoms ... how I miss those poor machines. They have been altered of their unique Ghost/Electric typing. Although I have seen Rotom-W in Rain Dance teams smashing high powered Hydro Pumps and Thunders for whatever comes there way.

They don't run Psycho Shock. Psychic in general is a poor typing. With Zoroark running around all they need is to be sucker punched in the face. Chansey is also a bit better than Blissy now IMO. A bit better defences in exchange for leftovers if actually good in some cases. It can at the least survive a phycical attack now. The Rotoms kinda stink now. Rotom-W is better but I still miss the good spin blocking days.

^Agreed. However, Burungeru seems to make a good substitute for Rotom-W.
Anybody have an opinion on how the Ubers tier will be doing this year?

Reshiram is insanely good in Ubers. With a 150 Base Sp. Attack, and a STAB 130 Base Power Attack with 20% chance to burn, it will be a great Special Attacker. However, the base 90 speed is somewhat crippling, and Mewtwo still wrecks it. Mewtwo has finally found a decent counter!! Choice Scarf Genosect can hit extremely hard with U-Turn or Bug Buzz, especially with the Download boost. I can see weather be used quite a bit in Ubers, especially Sandstorm. Hippowdon can still tank in Ubers, and Doryuuzu with Sand Throw will still be scary in Ubers. Same with Landlos with Sand Power.

I personally think Mewtwo doesn't need Psycho Break. Mewtwo 3HKO's Blissey with Focus Blast anyways. I personally run a set of Psychic/ Shadow Ball/ Flamethrower/ Focus Blast. Psychic is a godly move, dealing huge amounts of damage and 2HKO's anything that doesn't resist and isn't named Blissey/Chansey. Shadow Ball is for Giratina and any other ghosts. Focus Blast is for Arceus Steel, Darkrai, and any other dark types. Flamethrower works with Groudon's drought, and it OHKO's Mewtwo's potential counter in Genosect. Still, I'm considering using Thunder somewhere to cover Kyogre.
