Beartic and the ultimate amnesia

I'm curious on people's thoughts on this card and how they think it will effect the upcoming meta.
I think this card will see alot of play. As a stage one with 130 hp and an attack that nulifies all of the defending pokemons attacks this card just seems beastly. A water pokemon that can decimate reshiram and zekrom and is only really weak to steelix and scizor (who for the most part he can lock down). I think this card will be a meta changer. And when paired with something like Vileplume, you have a combo that locks all attacks and trainers.
I'm curious also what other cards people might pair this with. Would this be a usefull tech in some decks or would it be better as the central card in its own deck?
Excited to hear all your thoughts and opinions!

I like it. Like you mentioned the stats are very good, and the lock is hard to break. It has a speedy set up as long as you can attach a DCE by turn two. It has a beautiful Donphan match up, and it shuts down a large part of what is expected in the Metagame. Providing a fast lock down is going to be key in this format, and since it abuses DCE, you can utilize cards like Bouffalant and Reshiram/Zekrom techs (outrage). I honestly think this card will make a noticeable impact on our upcoming Meta.

Woah this thing is way too powerful, but not completely broken. The defending Pokemon can still retreat out of this effect or use Switch, but with massive retreat costs of some of the better Pokemon and a trainer lock this could be unbeatable. I think this could definitely make Tier 1 with a good list!

I definitely think that something like Vileplume will be necessary with this. Because an easy way to get around the lock will to be to retreat, so preventing switches and the like would be useful. Another idea would be to use Pokemon Catcher to drag up something with a high retreat cost, to keep it from retreating. But, as Vulpix Yolk already said, Beartic will have a HUGE impact on the metagame.

I think it would be better paired as its own deck, but as a secondary attacker (i.e in a donphan deck, but bring up Beartic after donphan hits the dust). I say this because I think that if you run into a Stage 2 deck, the lock breaks once the defending pokemon evolves, right?
So then just hit hard with Donphan and then bring up Beartic for stall, or something.

Or Beartic could work wonders as its own deck, involving Cinccinno and Afro-Tauros and/or possibly Braviary. Incude something for disruption for sure, like Pokemon Catcher. I wouldn't go Vileplume, because then it kills all of your trainers, which I think will be very important in the upcoming format.

glad to see some responses so quick :). in my mind this guy is a main attacker and works best when you can lock up trainers to prevent switch/catcher/ssu. and when you take down their main attacker you should be able to survive an attack without getting ohko'd due to massive hp. if you dont its not hard to have another beartic set up in the rafters. i think beartic/vileplume will be a new meta deck

hmmm vileplume and ampharos prime? that way they cant play switcha nd when they put energyt o retreat they get 10 damage...and with poke that have 3-4 retreat...that can be a game changer

putting in Ampharos into a bearplume ;) deck would just be way too much going on. (Viletic?) small combos are the best combos.

I think this card is completely broken and should not have been created. The only real way around this card is if you have 0 or 1 retreat cost. Anybody that runs this card should run it with Vileplume, you would be mad not to. If they get an attack and trainer lock up, the only way out of it would be retreating.

Bisharp better be a dang good card.

might also make cards like yanmega and crobat more popular aswell. free retreat and decent dmg for low energy

dodrio, or metagross. Either the steel one to OHKO, or psychic for free retreat.

lots of ways around it, but dodrio is the more likely tech

This card definitely has potential. If this gets popular, I might go back to Scizor. :p

I think if you had to flip a coin for it, this card would be rogue.

This card would be so much more fair if we had to flip a coin for Sheer Cold...this is just ridiculous. 50 damage plus the victim can't even attack. The only way to get out of it would be to retreat in some way...Dodrio would be the only way to counter this deck.

i definately think this will be a popular card and it will be a meta changer. where the more popular decks right now will be donphan, reshiboar, magneboar, blastgatr, zekrom, ttar etc. this card can decimate most of them. clearly it has some weaknesses and i think that becuase of that the meta may change or just expand to encompass the previously mentioned decks as well as cards like carlitosbob and youshidude10 mentioned. it may need to be played with fire and/or psychic cards to deal with the likes of scizor/machamp/metagross/serperior/reuniclus or lightning techs for crobat/yanmega. clearly the card isnt as broken as some may think but i believe beartic will evolve the current meta to become alot more balanced and make alot more cards popular and playable.

it just makes for a larger meta. Plain and simple. And who doesn't like a huge meta? Luxchomp did so well just because it has crazy good consistency, and was pretty much a tool box that could answer most, if not everything, that came its way. This just makes a huge meta, and you'l simply not know what you'll face. You will always have bad matchups, that's a fact. Machamp prime is a simple solution to beartic with vileplume. Don't forget, some people run techs that can outright die. So just send out the tech, and then just OHKO the bear your turn. If anything, schandeleure/switch/super scoop up is more broken than beartic. Doesn't even have to attack, just (ab)use it's ability

this would be ridiculous with vileplume and feraligatr...as a stage one you are fair off. I don't think it's completely broken because without bts, it'll be hard to get vileplume and beartic out anytime fast. and with the high attack cost, you have to slow down even more. feraligatr will help the energy set up if you have more beartic but feraligatr will slow down set up time. once set up though, this won't lose. reshiboar could have a lot of difficulty with this deck thanks to the weakness and high retreat cost for most of the cards in the deck. however, if reshiboar gets completely set up, then it'll go 1 and 1 until someone wins.

I don't get why people think stage 2's are so hard to get out.. I use 3 different stage 2 lines and 1 stage 1 line in my deck, and I get them all out consistently every single game. Post rotation makes it happen since there won't be a turn 1 trainer lock.

no im with you carlitosbob, i dont really have trouble setting up. its all about building for consistency. strong lines, rare candies, good searchers and hand refresh will make sure you are up and running in no time.

Here's the main problem I see with Beartic with Vileplume. Vileplume locks yourself from playing valuable Trainer - Items and that hurts deck consistency, no Pokemon Communication? Plus with the loss of Broken Time-Space it will be hard to evolve it with Seeker to get out of the Trainer Lock since you would need Rare Candy to evolve Oddish into Vileplume instead of wasting 2-3 turns to evolve it straight away. Since you can't Candy with Vileplume in play that idea is null and void.

2nd, If you run Gothitelle over Vileplume with Beartic you would be able to still play your Trainer - Items however you run the risk of your opponent Catchering one of your bench Pokemon unless you time it right with a Mr. Mime on the bench to see what's in their hand, utilize hand disruption with Judge and Spiritomb TR for Spooky Whirlpool, and keep Gothitelle Active to ensure you're safety maybe with a 1-1 or 2-2 Dodrio UD tech for Retreat Aid.

I think Floatzel UL is a better tech with Beartic than Feraligatr Prime just because of the Stage 1 speed and Water Acceleration can get Bearctic going really quick for that 1st attack for 50 damage. The main reason why Feraligatr Prime is big in the current metagame is because of Magnezone Prime but now that the focus is shifting towards Emboar with Inferno Fandango, Feraligatr Prime isn't as great as it used to be.
