Pokemon Being bullied for liking Pokemon

The problem is the kids at my school are teenagers (no offense or anything, teenager that like pokemon are awesome), I have stopped expressing that I like Pokemon, because I go to a private school. Therefore I mention I got 31st at National Championships and they say "That's so random" or "that's beast", and I don't like the kids at my school saying things to me which isn't bulling but meh it is close enough, so I try to sit with my back to walls, try to blend in with the scenery and NEVER mention I have hobbies (excluding listening to 20's country/gospel music or playing golf which they actually find uninteresting and stop talking to me).

Solution to teenagers.
Edit: I mean, uh, "Meh! Bullies!"
And now you can put in your essay that Pokémon nerds are a bunch of sociopathic freaks who don't care if they get bullied because they don't like people.

I've been bullied on and off throughout the years, mainly starting about 4th grade when Pokemon started getting dumped for a new fad, however after I changed schools (I was still very open about playing) in 7th grade things began to cool down. Still got mocked (mainly for my appreciation for Japan in general at the time) and I still get mocked...I think. After a while some of the people who picked on me starting asking to play, but I was never sure if they really meant it or were just trying to insult me in a more elaborate way. In any case as years went on it started becoming less and less of a problem as I reached Senior year this year. Over this time I have become sure of 4 things. 1.) The bullies often are Pokemon players in secret. 2.) The best insult they can think of when asking about pokemon is something like 'Well do you have a Charizard/Pikachu?' 3.) Ignoring them generally works. 4.) When you start talking about Pokemon in-depth they tend to back off.

If anything bullying about Pokemon is nowhere near as bad as it was around the time the popularity faded around it.

I have been made fun of for it since I started. I started to play card competitively when I had built a altaria ex delta and team magmas aggron deck. I was beating everybody, so they just stopped playing. They still played the video games, but not cards. They all got obsessed with sports and just left pokemon in the dust, so was I. To this day I still get made fun of all the time.

Being bullied for liking Pokemon really annoys me because it's a form of prejudice. The only people who make fun of people for liking Pokemon are the ones who don't know anything about it. Anybody on this forum knows that Pokemon isn't a kid's game, it's a game for everyone like Mario. And since the Poketrolls don't understand that, they make fun of the people who play it. It's sickening.

And even if it isn't prejudice, why would anyone let OTHER people in society mold who they are in life? I don't tell you what to do and like and have as a hobby, or what to do on a sunny Saturday afternoon, so don't you dare tell me I can't enjoy a simple game of Pokemon cards or play a video game about it just because YOU don't know what Pokemon is really about. If you let other people decide what you should and shouldn't do, you need to get ahold of your own life. Nobody has the right to control what you should think and like (okay, except maybe a little bit your parents), so if I have anything to say to someone reading this thread, it's to ignore the Poketrolls, define your OWN life, and if other people have a problem with it, they obviously don't understand what life is really about if they wanna belittle you and change your thoughts on something that you personally enjoy. It's one thing if Pokemon were harming other people and we all enjoyed it, but it doesn't. So those who have a problem with it really need to think about themselves and what life really means.

Normally they avoid the situation by being ignoring those who want to bully them. They usually don't split from their click and stay where everyone can see them. In my High School most of them in the same lunch period stick together anyway so there's usually too many for them to insult.

In summary just don't be to open about it, and share it with people who know aren't apart of the bully crowd or who play the games themselves.

I don't really have the problem because:
1. I don't play pokemon
2. I'm athletic and play sports
3. I'm friendly with both groups of people
4. When I do find something like that interesting I don't exactly broadcast it.

Don't ask, don't tell is a pretty good way of avoiding being harassed for liking pokemon. Also not playing it during school or class works, too. Overall if you are a cool person people won't care if you like pokemon or not.

But what if you're not a cool person. I'm saying worst case scenario, you are that obvious target to get bullied for anything, and playing Pokemon only adds on to the bullying. If you're not athletic and really try to be "cool" and funny, people avoid you. The question is, what if they honestly ask, "Do you play Pokemon?" Do you say yes and take the further making fun of, or lie and add to the burden you already carry for being bullied in the first place?

You'd probably want to answer no, unless you plan on playing pokemon during school hours than say sometimes. Don't try to be cool or funny. Be your normal self and don't force out anything just for people you don't like anyway. Stick to your friends.

My thoughts have always been be open about liking pokemon and anyone who disagrees and bullies you about it isn't worth your time, and if it gets out of hand get a teacher or something, but if that doesn't float your boat then go somewhere where no one goes during recess and lunch. Then again I'm kind of a loner and just walk around during such times so that may not be the best advice.

When I said cool person I meant an enjoyable person. There is a difference between being funny and trying to hard. Be yourself, not what people want you to be. If you are a nice person then people will like you unless you do things like play pokemon during school or try too hard to be cool and fail at it for example.

I am sometimes made fun of because I play pokemon, but I don't care about it and continue playing pokemon Heartgold on my DS =P

I am often bullied during school for liking pokemon, but I just ignore them.

I Have been bullied for wereing a pokemon tshirt and drawing it in art class. I didnt ever want to were a pokemon tshirt again, but now im totally fine wering it.

Nope... It's really popular @my school and people think it's cool...

nope, my friend just laugh at me and suggest me stop playing it because it's childish but we still are close friend even though i didn't stop. Like pokemon doesn't affect our friendship.

Pokemon has never been an item of conversation in my school and I doubt it would be elsewhere, so I really do not see how people can actually know that you like Pokemon. Unless, of course, you are making it completely obvious that you like Pokemon, lol. Although really, even if others do somehow find out that you like Pokemon, it's not a reason to bully someone (to be honest, there is absolutely no reason to bully someone). It is just your hobby, just like others may have hobbies like football and swimming, and is really none of anyone else's business.

I'm also of the opinion that a lot more people enjoy it without admitting it; odds are that at least some of the kids who bully Pokémon fans are actually fans themselves.

My advice to those that are bullied because of it: try not to let it bother you. I know for some of the younger users it may be a little more difficult, but once you hit college, people have much stranger hobbies that no one cares about, either. Besides, as time goes on, Pokémon is viewed as more and more retro, and thus more acceptable.

It's strange, as three or four years ago I was, and I had a PSE Lesson today. I don't know what it stands for. So we had to draw something and then the class had to find something that related to it. So I drew Squirtle, and amazingly a load of unknown knowledge springs up from everyone and soon cures of "Charizard!" and even "Zekrom!" shows that everyone knows a bit.
