Cardfight!! Vaguard Group Discussion

Bump...

I've been having some terrible luck at my last local Vanguard Tournament where I went 1-3 with GP Gancelot/Platina Ezel in Best of 2 Swiss the way the game should be instead of Best of 1 Double Elimination. 1st round I played against MLB Royal Paladin where I managed to Superior Ride into Blond Ezel and almost got off Gancelot's Break Ride ability except I was worried my opponent had a Perfect Guard in hand when I hoped to get a Crit or two on a Twin Drive check so I went ahead and called another Gancelot to the front rear aside from the one that was already my Vanguard when I should've rode Gancelot on top of Gancelot to go for broke.

2nd round I played against Angel Feather and got grade locked on both games, 1st game I couldn't get my Grade 1 out on time and 2nd game I couldn't get my Grade 2 out on time either and to add insult to injury I ended up getting my only Blond Ezel that I Superior Call in the deck to boost Platina Ezel for a 13k base to my damage zone. So I thought I could easily make up for the loss when my opponent ends up Superior Riding into his Grade 3 Angel Feather unit before I had a chance to since you know, Blond Ezel was in my damage zone. So yeah, not going too well for me so far.

3rd round I played against another Angel Feather deck which hardly had any money cards in it let alone Perfect Guards. So I manage to get my board position setup without getting grade locked, manage to Break Ride Platina Ezel on top of Gancelot to pump up my board full of units, and won both my games of the round itself. 4th round was where it got really interesting against Bermuda Triangle, I managed to stall out the game for a win but came really close to winning on the other two games which I fell short on but it was down to the wire. So without further ado here's the decklist:

Grade 0 (17)

4 Elixir Liberator (Heal Trigger)
4 Armed Liberator, Gwydion (Draw Trigger)
2 Speeder Hound (Draw Trigger)
4 Strike Liberator (Critical Trigger)
2 Dantegal (Critical Trigger)
1 Crimson Lion Cub, Kyrph (Starting Vanguard)

Grade 1 (15)

4 Sleygal Dagger
4 Knight of Elegant Skills, Gareth
4 Halo Shield, Mark (Perfect Guard/Sentinel)
1 Pomerugal Liberator
1 Precipice Whirlwind, Sagramore
1 Silver Fang Witch

Grade 2 (10)

4 Liberator of Silence, Gallatin
4 Knight of Superior Skills, Beaumains
2 Player of the Holy Bow, Viviane

Grade 3 (8)

4 Solitary Liberator, Gancelot
3 Blazing Lion, Platina Ezel
1 Incandescent Lion, Blond Ezel

Deck Total (50)

One of my friends suggested that I should run 4 Platina Ezel and 4 Gancelot for my Grade 3 lineup, while for Grade 2's run 4 Viviane, 4 Gallatin/Beaumains, and 2 other Grade 2's possibly Tripp. Grade 1's I suppose I should run 2 more Pomerugal Liberator or 2 more Silver Fang Witch, as for Starting Vanguard I should probably go back to running Little Fighter, Cron to search for Grade 3's since I wouldn't be able to Superior Ride into Blond Ezel to ride into Platina Ezel for 13k base power.

I went 5-0 last night at my LGS for Vanguard coming in 1st place in the Finals by Best of 1 Double Elimination running GP Gancelot/Platina Ezel. So without further ado, here's my latest tournament report for Cardfight!! Vanguard:

1st Round I go up against Amber Dragon Kagero and manage to sweep for game, 2nd Round I get a bye, 3rd Round I play against a Garmore Royal Paladin deck and won but just barely due to having a Perfect Guard against my Opponent having a Grade 3 with 40k attack and riding Gancelot on top of Gancelot. 4th Round I play against Shadow Paladin Revengers and managed to win due to my Opponent getting grade locked by missing his Grade 1 when he needed it.

5th Round was the Finals where I played against Garmore Royal Paladin again and managed to pull a win out of my butt. It was Best of 2 in the Finals and I didn't get a Perfect Guard in time to stop his Grade 3 swinging for 40k attack but I managed to get him back next game to win the tournament after getting off Ultimate Break with Platina Ezel combined with Gancelot's Limit Break ability. So here's the decklist after realizing that this is much better than the Superior Ride version:

Grade 0 (17)

4 Elixir Liberator (Heal Trigger)
4 Armed Liberator, Gwydion (Draw Trigger)
2 Speeder Hound (Draw Trigger)
4 Strike Liberator (Critical Trigger)
2 Dantegal (Critical Trigger)
1 Little Fighter, Cron (Starting Vanguard)

Grade 1 (15)

4 Sleygal Dagger
4 Knight of Elegant Skills, Gareth
4 Halo Shield, Mark (Perfect Guard/Sentinel)
1 Pomerugal Liberator
1 Precipice Whirlwind, Sagramore
1 Silver Fang Witch

Grade 2 (10)

4 Liberator of Silence, Gallatin
4 Player of the Holy Bow, Viviane
2 Mage of Calamity, Tripp

Grade 3 (8)

4 Solitary Liberator, Gancelot
4 Blazing Lion, Platina Ezel

Deck Total (50)

I'm thinking of taking Pomerugal Liberator and Silver Fang Witch out for 2 more Precipice Whirlwind, Sagramore. Incase If anyone was wondering, Dragonic Descendant for Narukami isn't getting restricted in English format as everyone thought it would.

Hi guys! Please remember to spoiler deck lists; this saves room and helps with page flow. Thank you :)

Are the first 2 Trial Decks Shadow Paladin and Link Joker or Dimension Police and Genesis? Depending If Vanguard picks up in my area more I might try to build Genesis since Oracle Think Tank is getting phased out like Royal Paladin is in a sense. Like I've said before on this thread I hate the way old clans get replaced with new clans...

A new game mechanic was recently introduced in BT14 called "Quintet Wall". How they work is that you Counterblast 1 to call the Quintet Wall to your Guardian Circle by revealing the top 5 cards of your deck to call all 5 cards to your Guardian Circle in Rest position to apply their Shield to whoever you're Guarding just as you normally would from your hand, of course If you reveal any Grade 3's from a Quintet Wall's ability they do nothing but get sent to the Drop Zone afterward. You can only run 2 Quintet Walls and 2 regular Perfect Guards in a deck, 3 regular Perfect Guards and 1 Quintet Wall in a deck, or 3 Quintet Walls and 1 regular Perfect Guard in a deck in terms of official deck construction purposes. Just like regular Perfect Guards, Quintet Walls are 6k Grade 1 units.

Cost wise Quintet Walls are better than regular Perfect Guards If you only have 1 card in hand to Guard with however If you're going up against decks that swing with 30k-40k+ attacking Vanguards then you're better off with regular Perfect Guards since they nullify ALL damage being dealt instead of taking a chance with a Quintet Wall where you're more than likely to get hit by a one to pass or two to pass drive check from your Opponent's attacking Vanguard. Still it doesn't hurt to run at least 3 regular Perfect Guards and 1 Quintet Wall just to be on the safe side. As of BT14 the Quintet Wall mechanic is only available for Gold Paladin and Royal Paladin but other Clans I'm sure will get their own Quintet Walls eventually whether or not If they'll be re-worded for other Clans is yet to be confirmed by Bushiroad at the moment.

Eh, hope reviving this thread is fine.

Spoilers, but latest episode (152) reveals that Quintet Wall is not exclusive to Gold Paladin and Royal Paladin. Cool showing.
The card is:

Also, even if you use Quintet Wall, you can still add to the shield total with a card/s from your hand.

Perfect Guard and Quintet Wall each have their pros and cons for defending, and I think it wouldn't hurt to run 3 Perfect Guards and 1 Quintet Wall or a 2-2, depending on balance and deck type.

We already had the full Quintet Wall effect and recent rules changes allowed you to call extra cards as you call cards one at a time and activate their effects immediately, meaning, for example, that you can guard with a card swapped by Nociel.

Thanks to the Sneak, I have an SP Salome <3

Can someone give me a run down on how to play?

I recommend, good sir, that you watch the first few Episodes of the anime (In Japanese with subs, because the Dub is horrid) to get a hang of the game. Otherwise, I will explain if you do not have the time or have Questions, because I seem to be one of the few people who keeps up with how things work.

PLAY CFV AAAAAAAAAAAAAH

Alright thanks, I will watch some episodes a little later then get back to you. :)

LOL I see. I've been buried under work/quite busy lately to check much on stuff and didn't know how far behind I was from the last time I checked. I'll start catching up so that I can keep on with the times and don't give the impression that I've been living under a rock all this time.
:p

I just recently found out that you can pay the cost of a regular Perfect Guard that's called to your Guardian Circle from a Quintet Wall's ability to nullify all damage from one attack and then use the other cards you called to the Guardian Circle from the Quintet Wall's ability to guard against any other attacks coming your way. I think that's absolutely amazing but at the same time it kind of gives specific Clans with Gold Paladin, Royal Paladin, and Genesis a major defensive advantage against Clans that don't have their own Quintet Walls such as Kagero, Shadow Paladin, Nova Grappler, and Aqua Force just to name a few.

For those who want to learn how to play Cardfight!! Vanguard but don't want to watch the English Dub or Japanese Sub to do it, I'll post these YouTube videos up for you:

The new Official Japanese Banned/Restricted List is up, it turns out that Lizard Soldier, Conroe (Kagero) got banned as Starting Vanguard while Barcgal (Royal Paladin) is still banned as Starting Vanguard as well. Dragonic Descendant (Narukami) is now Limited to 2 copies per deck, where as Goddess of the Full Moon, Tsukiyomi (Oracle Think Tank) and
Majesty Lord Blaster (Royal Paladin) are now Unlimited to 4 per deck.

So far this doesn't apply to the English Meta only the Japanese/Singapore Meta. I don't get why Bushiroad wants to ban DOTE Kagero it's not like it's as overpowered as people thought it was, as for MLB and Tsukiyomi it was about time that they were taken off the Banned/Restricted List. If we do happen to see any changes to the Banned/Restricted List in English format it would be Conroe getting banned as Starting Vanguard as everything else would be left untouched.

Nouvelle Vague, you mean the Grade 4 for Kagero which Conroe made too consistent for the same reason why Barcgal got banned as Starting Vanguard due to it's extreme consistency with Soul Saver Dragon in Royal Paladin decks. Makes sense since the best way to ride into a Grade 4 is by Superior Riding into a Grade 3 on Turn 2, I've done it before with Blond Ezel in GP and that early to mid game pressure can be very annoying which is almost like playing Spike Brothers.

The thing is, Conroe searched Roman, which got rid of a Vague for a G3, thus essentialy making the deck like 8G3, with 4 G4 units.

This question might sound stupid, but can you use standard sized sleeves for Vanguard cards? I know Vanguard cards are mini-sized, but still, would they work?

Essentially I have a set of custom standard sleeves that I want to use, but neither Pokemon nor Yugioh allow for non-brandname sleeves for competitions.
