RE: The Competitive Battling Questions Thread

Its 1 point for every 4 evs. 510 wouldn't do anything different from 508.

RE: The Competitive Battling Questions Thread

Hey guys.

I want to beat all of the Subway Bosses in the Battle Subway. I'd like to make a 3-Pokemon Trick Room team. I've finished one Pokemon, Reuinclus. Here is its moveset:

Reuniclus @ Life Orb
172 HP/32 Def/252 SpA/52 SpD
Nature: Quiet(+SpA, -Spe)
Psychic
Trick Room
Shadow Ball
Focus Blast

I use this set to deal with Chandelure(Shadow Ball), Psychic for Conkeldurr, and Focus Blast for Hydreigon. However, I don't know of any other Pokemon to use for an effective Trick Room team. Could anyone help? (also, feel free to make comments on my Reuinclus).

RE: The Competitive Battling Questions Thread

You will definitely want Recover if you want to survive to set up Trick Room again. Replace Shadow Ball with Recover. You'll want Leftovers to ensure your survival.

RE: The Competitive Battling Questions Thread

Actually, Shadow Ball is better on Reuniclus for perfect coverage for nailing pesky Psychic-types who would otherwise wall you since you don't have CM. Recover and Leftovers really are not needed since the idea behind TR Clus is to set up TR and try for a sweep.

For an EV spread, go with 192 HP / 64 Def / 252 SpA. There's really no point in putting EVs in Sp. Def since both of Reuniclus's counters break through it attack physically.

RE: The Competitive Battling Questions Thread

As Lucario stated above, you're going to want shadow ball to counter psychics. I would switch out focus blast for recover, not shadow ball. You can easily fit in a counter for Hydreigon in the rest of your team, but Recover is crucial if you decide to go with life orb.

RE: The Competitive Battling Questions Thread

Thanks everyone.

I decided to go with Chandelure and Jellicent for 2 more Trick Room users, and I ended up beating the Subway bosses in the Singles Train and the Doubles Train. :) I would like to utilize a full Trick Room team, so is there any other Pokemon (BW only) that are good Trick Room users?

RE: The Competitive Battling Questions Thread

Beheeyem is good as a Trick Room user.
Beeheeyem@Leftovers
248Hp/248 sp.att/8 def
-Trick Room
-Nasty Plot
-Psychic/Psyshock
-Thunderbolt/Shadow Ball/Energy Ball/HP of your choice

I'd just like to point something out for any VGCers out there. Lv. 50 =/= Lv. 100. If you do VGC, 8 EVs = 1 point instead of 4 per point. So a max spread for VGC would be 248/248/8 rather than 252/252/4. (I realize this isn't relevant to BW OU, but VGC is still competitive battling. Technically.)

RE: The Competitive Battling Questions Thread

Thanks shadow_scyther. Though I'm a bit confused, is Beheeyem supposed to be a lead, or more of a mid-game TR attacker?

RE: The Competitive Battling Questions Thread

Does Sacred Sword ignore the effects of Eviolite?

Seeing as Eviolite boosts defense, I could see it working. But I'm not too certain.

RE: The Competitive Battling Questions Thread

It only effects boosts from attacks and such in-batttle (like Acid Armor or Iron Defense).

Users or abusers? Pokemon that set up the trick room or ones that take advantage of it? For setting it up, I'd say confagrigus deferves a mention-it has excellent defense and an immunity to fighting, making it a great physical wall. It can also set up trick room, as well as burn or poison foes with will o'wisp or toxic. It's attacking movepool is pretty poor, though. For an attacker you should consider Conkeldurr-it has great attack and good defenses too. It can use bulk up to hit harder, drain punch to recover hp and defeat opponents, and mach punch to hit opponents first if trick room isn't up. Normally I'd suggest payback for ghosts, but since in trick room you will usually go first I recomment rock slide instead, as rock slide hits all ghosts for neutral as well as hitting flying types for super-effective damage.

RE: The Competitive Battling Questions Thread

I know Reuniclus has good defenses, but how does Eviolite Duosion compare to it? I guess this is a noob question since Reuniclus needs Lefties/LO, but still.

RE: The Competitive Battling Questions Thread

I'd never noticed it before, but Duosion actually has the same sp. atk as reuniclus so that could be good. Duosion would have more defense and special defense but lower HP. Of course, since Reuniclus can run Life Orb to no negative effect, Reuniclus is slightly better offensively. Duosion's higher defenses may well cancel out the fact that reuniclus's health is higher, but I don't know how Reuniclus's leftover's could be calculated in to tell which is better defensively in the end. In truth, I don't know: Reuniclus is slightly better offensively, but I have no clue about defensively or a middleground.

RE: The Competitive Battling Questions Thread

Here's a comparison between the two using the standard spread: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD and Bold Nature.

Reuniclus
HP: 424
Defense: 273
Sp. Def: 207

Duosion
HP: 334
Defense: 327
Sp. Def: 235

Here's a damage calc using Salamence's Dragon Claw with the following EV spread: 252 Atk / 4 SpA / 252 Spe and Naive Nature.

vs Reuniclus
No Life Orb: 27.6% - 32.5%
Life Orb: 35.6% - 42%
No Life Orb, +1 Attack: 41.3% - 48.8%
Life Orb, +1 Attack: 53.8% - 63.2%

Vs Duosion
No Life Orb: 29% - 34.4%
Life Orb: 38% - 44.9%
No Life Orb, +1 Attack: 43.4% - 51.5%
Life Orb, +1 Attack: 56.6% - 66.8%

I would say that Reuniclus is the winner, because of its large HP stat, it doesn't take as much damage from attacks as Duosion.
