RE: The Competitive Battling Questions Thread

Is he outclassed my somebody in RU and/or UU? He seems like a decent Pokemon in UU to me.

RE: The Competitive Battling Questions Thread

I think it's completely outclassed by Reuniclus, but it still has some uses. It can barely run a support or offensive moveset. Oh, and for UU, I think Alakazam can be used to a greater extent because of it's sheer power and the number of sets it can run. I'm not too familiar with UU, but I'm learning a LOT. I love it. <3

RE: The Competitive Battling Questions Thread

Yeah, I know it's an inferior Reuniclus, but I'm talking about UU and/or RU.

RE: The Competitive Battling Questions Thread

If a Sudowoodo falls in Ilex forest and nobody is around to hear, does it make a sound?

But really, if a Crobat switches in on Toxic Spikes, then uses Roost, does it absorb the toxic spikes?

Thanks!

RE: The Competitive Battling Questions Thread

hey is there a (LCQ) for video games and if one of my last game was cheated and transfer over would pokemon black and white be considered cheated?or could i just delete them and continue in like nothing happened

RE: The Competitive Battling Questions Thread

Yeah, they do hold an LCQ at Worlds (details). As for the cheating, I've never been in a situation where I'd have to worry about that myself, but as far as I know you should be safe from hack check problems as long as your party Pokémon are untampered with (not sure about boxed and other Pokémon, but you can never be too careful). The event's hack checking software is simply going to look for lapses or oddities in your game's coding and the information stored from your Pokémon onto your game card, so you want to make sure your Pokémon have been obtained by legitimate means, their stats and movesets are within species-specific bounds, and that all Pokémon and items you have are at this point obtainable (obviously, don't enter a Genesect :p). If you delete any suspicious Pokémon/items/etc. from your game, the respective coding is for all intents and purposes gone, but I'm not sure if BW cards have the capacity to store log files, which would spell death if a hack check could pick that up. That being said, the chances that log files would get involved is pretty slim (it'd be a pain in the neck for Nintendo to implement that stuff), so if you get everything suspicious out of your game and keep it clean for the duration of the event (in case of random checks between matches, which I believe the VGC staff still does), you should be alright – I've heard a number of accounts where hacks have been removed from games with successful entry into events. Granted, like I said, you can never be too careful – if you have any qualms beyond what you can find online, you'll have to sort those out yourself.

And we've got a VGC discussion topic up where you can ask questions like these (rather than solely metagame stuff), you might want to check that out for future reference.

We'll have to consult Celebi and do some time traveling for that one, haha :D. Among the deepest questions of our universe, this has perplexed man and Pokémon alike for more millennia than the number of fainted Caterpie left to lay waste in the forest itself. ._.

RE: The Competitive Battling Questions Thread

Since I was on the VGC Staff team this year at Nationals, I'll do my best to explain how it was done. Basically most of the competitors were getting their games checked before round 1 even began. I believe they are only interested in if the Pokemon you are entering are legal. While I did see what the screen looks like when they are checking it, I can't tell you what it looks like. Random checks were still done to make sure everyone got checked. When the top cut was determined, each of their games got checked again iirc.

RE: The Competitive Battling Questions Thread

I was just wondering, are these stats for my Heracross at Level 100
good enough to counter against Darkrai and other Pokemon in the Uber Tier
bracket? I don't use PokeSav on my Pokemon so I don't have 31 IV's
in each stat and I only have 31 IV's in HP:

HP - 308
Attack - 308
Defense - 159
Sp. Attack - 79
Sp. Defense - 203
Speed - 272

Jolly Nature,
Often dozes off.

Is it solid enough? I wanted to max the speed on my Heracross cause it has
lower Base Stats in Speed than it does in Attack and with Choice Scarf increasing
it's attack by 50% I should be able to reach a speed of 300+ against Uber Pokemon to get the first attack in without relying on Priority.

I didn't know If I needed to get the extra 60 points in HP and Attack for my Heracross in order to counter against Darkrai so I want to make sure If this set is good enough to do the job. I'd appreciate any feedback you can give me on this. I apologize If this is in the wrong forum but I need to know before I transfer this guy over to my Black game.

RE: The Competitive Battling Questions Thread

Do you know what its EVs are? Its impossible to tell its IVs if you don't know the EVs and stuff.

RE: The Competitive Battling Questions Thread

Yeah these are supposed to be the amount of EV's I gave it:

HP - 56
Attack - 216
Speed - 232
Sp. Defense - 4

I also gave it lots of Vitamins in Attack and Speed plus it also has Pokerus, so yeah...

RE: The Competitive Battling Questions Thread

Are you sure the EVs are correct? I'm getting that jolly Heracross with 216 attack EVs has 309 attack if it has 0 atk IVs, meaning either the stats or the EVs are wrong...Anyway, assuming the EVs and stats for the other stats are correct, here are the IVs:

24 HP
-1 Attack (see above)
4 Defense
3 Sp. Atk
7 Sp. Def
15 Speed

Not that great. If you are planning on using it as a Darkrai counter remember to teach it Sleep Talk. That's about all I can say.

RE: The Competitive Battling Questions Thread

Is Archeops good in Double Battles or Singles?I'm aware of it's Ability and low Defenses, but it seems like it would have good potential in Doubles.

RE: The Competitive Battling Questions Thread

So... I've been reading movesets here and on other places... and I thought pinch berries cannot be obtained in Black and White? Some clarification would be quite helpful! Thanks so much in advance~!

I would assume its even worse in doubles, because the opponent can concentrate both of its attacks at Archeops. Surf and Rock Slide are also super common in Doubles, and Archeops happens to be weak against both.

I believe there is an event Pokemon that is obtained holding the Petaya berry so that's legal. I don't think its possible to get the others yet, though.

It already knows Sleep Talk, and it's other moves are Megahorn, Close Combat, and
Stone Edge. I think the EV's are wrong but I'm asking you judging from the numbers it's stats are at Level 100, is it still good enough to counter Darkrai just by that alone? Let's not consult the amount of EV's it has.

Jolly Nature doesn't decrease Attack it decreases Sp. Attack while increasing Speed when it levels up. I have 31 IV's in HP (Often dozes off) to help stave off damage from Darkrai while asleep and using Sleep Talk to try to use Megahorn or Close Combat on Darkrai. I mean really the maximum Attack stat Heracross can get at Level 100 is 368 and mine is just 60 points shy of that maximum.

Just because Heracross only has 308 Attack you're saying that it won't be able to OHKO Darkrai with a STAB and Guts boosted Megahorn or Close Combat from Sleep Talk? It needs to have 60 more Attack to pull off the OHKO is that what you're saying? Sure Choice Scarf prevents it from absorbing Dark Void since I don't have Leftovers attached to Heracross.

A Level 100 EV Trained Darkrai or Mewtwo would only have at best 279-306 Defense, both If Heracross sweeps fast enough with Choice Scarf 50% Speed boost with 272 Speed that should be enough Speed to land a hit on any Uber Pokemon with 350+ Speed before they land their move on Heracross unless it has +1 priority like Aerial Ace, Vacuum Wave, or Pursuit.

RE: The Competitive Battling Questions Thread

Well, you could run a damage calc, but thruthfully, 60 attack is a lot. Now, with a Guts boost and high-powered, super-effective STAB, I think there's a good chance you can OHKO Darkrai as long as it doesn't run defensive EVs, but you should run a calc to make sure.

RE: The Competitive Battling Questions Thread

The damage calculator's not working for me, maybe I can garauntee the KO's by having a Stealth Rocks or Toxic Spikes Lead like Aerodactyl which is great at setting up Stealth Rocks since not very many Pokemon use Rapid Spin other than Cloyster, Blastoise, and Forretress.

RE: The Competitive Battling Questions Thread

Heracross's Close Combat and Megahorn are both OHKOs against Darkrai. Even without the boost from Guts it still will get it. If you are not asleep, the maximum damage a Heracross can do to Darkrai without a crit is 416-492 assuming Heracross has perfect IVs and EVs with Jolly nature and the Darkrai is standard. I battle Ubers probably more than anyone else on the forum. Choice Scarf Heracross actually is pretty decent in Ubers because it can check a lot of Pokemon. Dialga, Mew, Mewtwo, Ho-Oh if it has Stone Edge, Tyranitar, Latios, Latias, Wobbuffet, and Darkrai are amongst them.
