Thanks, I'll stick to one DS! (I had no idea that the friend code changes)
:D

You can transfer your Wi-Fi data so that that doesn't happen, but that's mostly made for actually changing your system, and not for simple general use.

RE: The Competitive Battling Simple Questions Thread

Ok, I want to teach my smeargle a Speed raising move. I can't decide which is best. Tailwind, Shift Gear, Rock Polish, Autotomize, Agility, or Shell Smash.

RE: The Competitive Battling Simple Questions Thread

Rock Polish and Agility are outclassed by Shift Gear. Autotomize has no use on Smeargle since he is already very light. Shell Smash is fine for a BP set but you are already frail and susceptible to priority. Tailwind is good for team support, but Smeargle has better things to do than use Tailwind.

Go with Shift Gear or, if you're feeling brave, Shell Smash.

RE: The Competitive Battling Simple Questions Thread

What would be a really good moveset for a NU Tier Pikachu without Hidden Power Ice? I kept breeding Pichu's with every other Hidden Power except Ice and it won't allow me to get that Hidden Power for some reason. Any advice on a good Moveset for that situation?

RE: The Competitive Battling Simple Questions Thread

Thanks. Is Hidden Power Fire worth it on a Pikachu? It would get around Steel Type Pokemon of course however it would still have problems against Dragon Types though...

RE: The Competitive Battling Simple Questions Thread

Steel-types are neutral to Thunderbolt, and a STAB Thunderbolt is stronger than a Super Effective Hidden Power (142.5 BP Tbolt vs 140BP HP Fire).

You could try Hidden Power Fighting though. Bastiodon and Probopass are two really common NU walls with high special defense, but a Nasty Plot boosted HP Fighting will hit them hard due to their 4x weakness.

RE: The Competitive Battling Simple Questions Thread

I guess I should keep trying to get Hidden Power Ice, do you know anybody who has a DW Pichu or Pikachu with that Hidden Power for trade? I really wanted to go OU with my Pikachu and If I had HP Ice he'd be amazing against threats like Dragonite, Garchomp, and Hydreigon. -___-

RE: The Competitive Battling Simple Questions Thread

Pikachu's getting outsped and OHKOed by Garchomp (who's banned from OU) and Hydreigon (not to mention 50 Special Attack is terrible for OU's standards), so I strongly suggest against taking Pikachu into OU (or even Raichu for that matter).

RE: The Competitive Battling Simple Questions Thread

Or just don't use it at all since it's terrible by any tier's standards.

RE: The Competitive Battling Simple Questions Thread

I like the Pikachu Moveset that Shadow Scyther posted, I'm thinking of a moveset like this:

* Nasty Plot
* Substitute
* Thunderbolt
* Grass Knot

EVs -

252 Sp. ATK
252 Speed
4 DEF

Item - Light Ball
Nature - Timid
Ability - Lightningrod

However, Pikachu gets some merit for rivaling the offensive stats of legendaries when using Light Ball (on top of that, its Base 90 Speed, making it above standards for Speed in NU). The set you posted is good enough for a Pikachu (which appears to be copied and pasted right from Smogon), but some other moves you might want to try on Pikachu would be Knock Off and Volt Switch. Volt Switch is good to maintain momentum, but Pikachu would probably need some more speed to pull it off, while Knock Off gets rid of pesky Eviolite users.

You want to expand on this instead of shooting down his ideas with no support? I agree with you, but seriously, expand on what you said. We're trying to help newer players, not trying to turn them away.

RE: The Competitive Battling Simple Questions Thread

OU: use Thundurus-T, Rotom-W
UU: use Raikou, Rotom-H
RU: use Galvantula, Electivire (yes Electivire), Magnectric
NU: Elektross, Rotom-S, even Raichu for better speed

Sure, Light Ball is cute, but terrible defenses (I doubt it can even take a resisted hit) are not. You're better off using the above Pokemon I listed since they have better bulk and movepool meaning they can get in multiple hits and cause more damage than Pikachu can.

If you really want to use a lower tier Pokemon, go with something that has a niche in all tiers they can be in like Quagsire, Heracross, Mienshao, Raikou, etc. You're setting yourself up for failure by using Pikachu in OU, UU, or even RU.

RE: The Competitive Battling Simple Questions Thread

I think I'll go with a SubPunch Pikachu Moveset imported from Gen IV. Here's
what it looks like:

* Substitute
* Focus Punch
* Thunderbolt/Volt Switch
* Grass Knot

EV's -

252 Sp. ATK
252 Speed
6 HP

Item - Light Ball
Nature - Timid
Ability - Static

RE: The Competitive Battling Simple Questions Thread

In VGC events, do the Pokemon on my team have to have my OT/Player ID, or is it ok to use Pokemon that you did not catch yourself. For example, if my friend trades me his level 100 Pikachu, could I use that on my team, or not since it does not have the same OT/ID as my game?

Yes. ID doesn't matter. Anyone can be the OT.

RE: The Competitive Battling Simple Questions Thread

Oh, and one more thing. For Worlds, are we allowed to teach Pokemon moves via the Move Tutor in Pokemon Black 2? I'd be using Pokemon Black in the event, but I would first trade my Pokemon over, teach them the moves in B2, and then trade them back. Is this allowed?

RE: The Competitive Battling Simple Questions Thread

No. You may not have the Pokemon with a move it can only get in BW2.

Thank you for the clarification. What if the move is also available in HGSS? Could I then teach the move in BW2? I'll give you my specific example. I caught a Bronzong in a Generation V game, and I want to teach it Stealth Rock, which can be taught to Bronzong in both Platinum and HGSS. Is it, then, ok to teach the Bronzong Stealth Rock in BW2, since the move could be taught in a multitude of other games as well?
